Many people think of guys as being carefree when it comes to their appearance. But in fact, a lot of guys spend plenty of time in front of the mirror. They care just as much as girls do about their body image.
Body image is a person's opinions and feelings about his or her own body and physical appearance. 1. You appreciate your body for its capabilities and accept its imperfections.
2. Here are some ideas.
Recognize your strengths. Different body types are good for different things. What does your body do well? Maybe your speed, strength, or coordination makes you better than others at a certain sport. That may be basketball, table tennis, mountain biking, dancing, or even running. Or perhaps you have non-sports skills, like drawing, painting, singing, playing a musical instrument, writing, or acting. 3.
Exercise regularly. Exercise can help you look well and feel good about yourself. Good physiques (體形) don’t just happen. 4. A healthy habit can be as simple as exercising 20 minutes to 1 hour three days a week. Working out can also lift your spirits.
Respect your body! Practicing good habits regular showering; taking care of your teeth, hair, and skin; wearing clean clothes, and so on can help you build a positive body image.
5. Your body is just one part of who you are. Your talent for comedy a quick wit (智慧) and all the other things make you unique. So try not to let small imperfections take over.
A. Use this as an opportunity to discover what you’re good at.
B. Be yourself.
C. Having a positive body image means feeling satisfied with the way you look.
D. Just explore talents that you feel good about.
E. They take hard work, regular workouts, and a healthy diet.
F. The good news is that self-image and body image can be changed.
G. So, what can you do to develop a positive body image?

Many people rush into the commitment of bringing home a four-legged family member, only to find out that they are not ready for a pet. This often results in the dog being turned over to a shelter where it may not find another home. This can be avoided if potential pet owners take the time to figure out if they are truly ready for the responsibilities of pet ownership.
Being a responsible pet owner involves a financial commitment that goes beyond buying dog fooD. There are also parasite (寄生蟲) prevention, boarding costs while traveling and the cost to care for the pet should it become ill or injureD. That is not to say that one must be rich in order to have a dog, but it is important to be prepared for the expenses that come with being a pet owner.
Another consideration is the time commitment. An owner away from home for 14 hours every day is not an ideal situation for a dog.A potential dog owner must also consider the time it takes to care for his or her pet, the time it takes to feed, walk, play with, bathe and clean up.Also, dogs require attention.Be prepared to spend time each day petting and playing with it.
Dogs are dogs, and will act like dogs. This includes barking, digging, having accidents in the house and, possibly, destroying some of the owner’s prized possessions, such as furniture, shoes and cell phones. If the above would cause an owner to want to get rid of the dog, then he or she is not yet ready to be a pet owner. Many wonderful pets end up in shelters simply because they acted like dogs!

A. Jim, who has a daughter sensitive to dog’s smell.
B. Dick, a jobless teenager who can hardly pay his rent.

D. Steven, a business man who travels a lot on business.

A. finding a shelter for it when you are bored with it
B. buying dog food and feeding it
C. taking it to hospital when necessary
D. spending time each day playing with it

In her new book, “The Smartest Kidsin the World”, Amanda Ripley, an investigative journalist, tells the story of Tom, a high-school student from Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, who decides to spend his senior year in Wroclaw, Poland. Poland is a surprising educational success story: in the past decade, the country raised students’ test scores from significantly below average to well above it. Polish kids have now outscored American kids in math and science, even though Poland spends, on average, less than half as much per student as the United States does. One of the most striking differences between the high school Tom attended in Gettysburg and the one he ends up at in Wroclaw is that the latter has no football team or teams of any kind.
That American high schools spend more time and money on sports than on math is an old complaint. In December, when the latest Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) results are announced, it’s safe to predict that American high-school students will once again show their limited skills in math and reading, outscored not just by students in Poland but also by students in places like China, Finland, Singapore, and Japan. Meanwhile, they will have played some very exciting football games, which will have been breathlessly written up in their hometown papers.
Why does this situation continue? Well, for one thing, kids like it. And for another, according to Ripley, parents seem to like the arrangement, too. She describes a tour she took of a school in Washington D.C., which costs thirty thousand dollars a year. The tour leader — a mother with three children in the school — was asked about the school’s flaws (瑕疵). When she said that the math program was weak, none of the parents taking the tour reacted. When she said that the football program was weak, theu mean?”
One of the ironies of the situation is that sports show what is possible. American kids’ performance on the field shows just how well they can do when expectations are high. It’s too bad that their test scores show the same thing.
1.Tom decides to spend his senior year in Poland because _________.
A. he intends to improve his scores
B. Polish kids are better at learning
C. sports are not supported at schools in Gettysburg
D. he wants to be the smartest kid in the world
2.According to Paragraph 2, we know that _________.
A. PISA plays a very important role in America
B. little time is spent on sports in Japanese schools
C. American students do better in both math and sports
D. too much importance is placed on sports in America
3.The underlined sentence in the last paragraph means _________.
A. low expectations result in American students’ poor PISA performance
B. high expectations push up American students’ academic performance
C. American students’ academic performance worries their parents a lot
D. lacking practice contributes to American students’ average performance
4.The purpose of this article is to _________.
A. compare Polish schools with those in America
B. call on American schools to learn from the Polish model
C. draw public attention to a weakness in American school tradition
D. explain what is wrong with American schools and provide solutions
