Many people don't realize the importance of music education in the schools today. A new study showed, however, music education is extremely important.

In college, music education is one of the largest programs. Teachers have to learn general education materials and techniques. They must learn to play every instrument; they must learn music history and music theory; they must learn instrument repair and teaching methods; they must learn conducting and so much more. At the same time, much of our culture and tradition is absorbed in music.

Music plays a very important role in our education.

Music helps with math and science. Students learn to count, and how to multiply and divide. Students also use science to help them discover what sounds good together and what doesn’t. Students also need science to understand something called the “overtone series", which is about how music is produced by vibration(顫動(dòng))and why.

Students learn a lot about languages through music. Many songs are written in other languages, including ancient ones. Students must learn to translate these works to understand what they are singing about. A song is likely to be a famous short work set to music; so students are exposed to that very often while singing.

Students learn a huge amount of cooperation (協(xié)作)of body parts through music, so parts of the body can work better together. Students must use motor(肌肉運(yùn)動(dòng)的)skills in order to play an instrument. Singers and wind(管樂器)players must learn breath control and be in good shape to play.

Students learn about art. Some famous pieces were written about important pieces of art, and students learn about the artists and styles as they're playing the music.

Music education also brings higher thinking to our children. It allows them to think about complex patterns. Students have to be aware of what every other musician does at every time. In that way, it develops cooperation, as well. They tend to develop more ability for learning.

As one can see, music is very important to education.

2. Music benefits us a lot in many ways except for_______.

A. making us a scientist later.

B. improving language ability

C. bettering cooperation of body parts.

D. making us think more about how to learn well

3. The underlined word “that” in Para. 5 refers to “_________”

A. the music B. the workC. the culture D. the language

4. What can we know from the passage?

A. A good achievement of science is vital to music learning.

B. Learning music to a higher level on one’s own is impossible

C. People have long known the importance of music to our growth.

D. Music has benefits to the all—around development of human beings.

Dear Mike,

How are you doing these days?

Aimed at providing a platform there students can have a chance to exchange and make use of their books, the annual campus books fair will soon held in our school. The fair will attract a huge crowd from the entirely school, who are to sell, purchase but exchange their second-hand books with their peers.

As a regular visitor, I’ve found myself increasingly drawing by the fair. For one thing, the fair exhibits books of hundreds of type on diverse topics, motivating us to further develop their reading habits and help to broaden our horizons. For other, most books are sold at a low price than what the bookstores offer.

Please let me to know if you have any suggestions on how to host such a book fair better.

Introduction

Blenheim Palace is one of the Europe’s largest and greatest palaces. It was built between 1705 and 1722 as a reward of the British government to John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough, for defeating King Louis XIV’s army at Blenheim, a small Bavarian village on the Danube River.

科目:高中英語(yǔ) 來源:2015-2016學(xué)年內(nèi)蒙古高二6月第二次月考英語(yǔ)卷(解析版) 題型:閱讀理解

Street art can be found on buildings, sidewalks, street signs and even trash cans from Tokyo to Paris to New York City. This special kind of art can take the form of paintings, sculptures, cloth or even stickers. It has become part of a global visual culture. Now, even art museums and galleries are collecting the works of street artists.

It is not easy to provide an exact history of the street art movement. This kind of art has developed in many kinds of ways in places all over the world. Also, because it is illegal to paint on public and private property without permission, street artists usually work secretly. This secretive nature of street art and its countless forms make it hard to define exactly. And people have different opinions about the movement. Some think street art is a crime and destroys property. But others see this art as a rich form of non-traditional cultural expression.

Many experts say the movement began in New York City in the 1960s. Young adults would use paint in special cans to spray their “tag” on walls and train cars around the city. This tag was a name they created to identify themselves and their artwork. This colorful style of writing is also called graffiti (涂鴉). It is visually exciting and energetic. Some graffiti paintings were signs marking the territories of city gangs or illegal crime groups.

Graffiti also became a separate movement expressing the street culture of young people living in big cities. Graffiti art represented social and political rebellion (叛逆). This was art that rejected the accepted rules of culture and power. These artists could travel around areas of the city making creative paintings for everyone to see. Sometimes this street art created a conflict between artists and city officials. Graffiti artists created their images and city officials quickly painted over them.

During the 1980s, two New York painters—Keith Haring and Jean Michel began showing their work in art galleries and museums. This is when street art started to become part of the more general popular culture.

1.What can we infer from the first paragraph?

A. Street art has become popular and is accepted as a kind of culture.

B. Street art is very special compared with other forms of popular art.

C. Many people are beginning to learn street art.

D. Street art is better developed in big cities than in rural areas.

2.Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the passage?

A.“TAG” was a word created by people to distinguish street artists and the other artists.

B. There are three reasons explaining why it is hard to define the history of street art.

C. The movement of street art began in the 1980s in New York City.

D. All the people don’t think that the street art is a rich form of cultural expression.

3.The city officials used to get rid of graffiti probably because ________.

A. they caused arguments between people

B. they were ugly in someone’s eyes

C. they were not painted under proper guidance

D. they didn’t express traditional culture

4.Which is the best title of the passage?

A. The Way to Become a Street Artist

B. What Does Graffiti Art Stand For?

C. The History of Street Art Movement

D. The Work of Street Artists
