“Hey, who wants a drink?”

“OH, come on, just one drink won’t hurt you. It’s fun.”

“It’s cool. Everybody drinks, right?”

Drinking alcohol is dangerous for teens and sometimes for adults. It's easy for kids to get the wrong message about alcohol. They might see their parents drink or watch TV commercials that make drinking look like a lot of fun. But alcohol is actually a depressant(鎮(zhèn)靜劑). 1. Like many drugs, alcohol changes a person’s ability to think, speak and see things as they really are.

2. A person might lose his or her balance and have trouble walking properly. He might hurt himself or other people, especially if he drives a car. Someone who drinks too much also might throw up and could wake up the next day feeling awful.

Drinking too much alcohol can lead to alcohol poisoning, which can kill a person. Over time, people who abuse alcohol can do serious damage to their bodies. 3.

Keeping drinking as a habit can also develop a problem called alcoholism(酗酒). Someone who has a alcoholism is eager for alcohol. 4. A person who starts drinking alcohol at a young age is more likely to develop alcoholism.

Alcoholism can continue over time. It often gets worse, too, because the person may start to experience health problems related to drinking. In addition to liver problems, long-term drinking can damage the pancreas(胰腺), heart and brain.

5. As a teenager, help yourself by not starting in the first place.

A. The liver, which removes poisons from the blood, is especially at risk.

B. But with help, anyone who has a problem with alcohol can be successful at stopping.

C. It's normal to be curious about new things, especially if it seems like everyone is doing it.

D. When people drink too much, they might do or say crazy things.

E. You might see people drinking and watching sports together or having a big party.

F. That means it’s a drug that slows down or depresses the brain.

G. The person has little control over his or her drinking and can’t stop without help.

1.F

2.D

3.A

4.G

5.B

But alcohol is actually a depressant(鎮(zhèn)靜劑).

A person might lose his or her balance and have trouble walking properly.

Over time, people who abuse alcohol can do serious damage to their bodies可知敘述的是喝酒對人的身體產(chǎn)生的不好的影響。 故A正確。

Keeping drinking as a habit can also develop a problem called alcoholism(酗酒). Someone who has a alcoholism is eager for alcohol.

As a teenager, help yourself by not starting in the first place也是在說明不染上這個習慣的方法。

Greenwich (格林威治) is on the River, five miles from the middle of London, and its history is two thousand years old. The first English people were fishermen there, and they named the place Greenwich, meaning "green village". Later the English kings and queens lived at Greenwich in their beautiful places.

The name of the earliest palace was Placentia. Its windows were made of glass--the first in England. But trouble was coming to Greenwich. In 1649, a war started in England and for eleven years there was no king. The men who had worked for him at Placentia decided to live in the place themselves. They sold all its beautiful things, and bought small pieces of the palace garden with money. Finally, the war ended and King Charles II came back. But Placentia was falling down. So King Charles built a new and bigger palace, which is now open to the public.

At this time, Charles was worried about losing so many of its ships at sea because their sailors did not know how to tell exactly where they were. So in 1675, Charles made John Flamsteed, the first astronomer (天文學家) in England, try to find the answer. Flamsteed worked in a new building on the high ground in Greenwich Park. From it with a telescope which he made himself, Flamsteed could look all round the sky. And he did, night after night, for twenty years. Carrying on Flamsteed's work a hundred years later, an astronomer called Harrison finally made a clock which told the time at sea, and helped sailors to know where they were. You can see Harrison's clock, still working, in Greenwich's museum of the sea. Because of Flamsteed's work, every country in the world now tells its time by Greenwich time.
