Long, long ago people couldn’t write and they had no books. But they had stories. People learned the stories by heart and taught new ones to one another. Sometimes it was hard to remember them all. 【1】
The ancient Egyptians wrote their stories on something made from papyrus (紙沙草) plants. People in other places wanted to learn from the Egyptians to use papyrus.
【2】 So, parchment (羊皮紙), made from goatskin, later took its place.
In ancient China books looked a little different. People there used ink to write on bamboo or silk. And then they invented paper. Made of trees, paper was easier and cheaper to make than papyrus or parchment.【3】 Paper-making later spread to the West, but there was a big problem with these early books. Every single one had to be copied and written by hand.
【4】 They carved (雕刻) a page of words into a piece of wood or stone. They could then print the page by spreading ink on the wood or stone and putting it against paper. But it wasn’t until a German printer invented movable, metal letters that books became fast and easy to make. The letters could be used to print copy after copy, and the letters put together again and again to print different pages of words.
【5】 Once a luxury (奢侈品) only the rich could buy, they soon became a treasure everyone could enjoy.
A. It took years to finish making just one book.
B. But papyrus grew mainly in Egypt.
C. Things grew a little easier when writing was invented.
D. Finally books could be printed by the thousands.
E. The Chinese were the first to think of a way to speed things up a little.
F. Books in the West didn’t change for a long time after that.
G. Its surface was smoother and better for writing on too.

The ancient Egyptians wrote their stories on something made from papyrus
根據(jù)后文So,parchment (羊皮紙),made from goatskin,later took its place因此,羊皮制成的羊皮紙,后來取代了它(紙沙草)的地位?
And then they invented paper.Made of trees, paper was easier and cheaper to make than papyrus or parchment然后他們發(fā)明了紙。
The letters could be used to print copy after copy, and the letters put together again and again to print different pages of words這些字母可以用來復(fù)印復(fù)寫,并且把這些字母一次又一次放在一起打印不同的單詞。
第3小題前說這種紙容易寫,與選項G(它的表面更光滑,也適合書寫)與之相符,故選G

Teenagers have their own TV channels, websites and magazines. So what about books?
Last year one publisher, Martins, started publishing a series called Waves. We spoke to the director Julia Smith. She explained, "Teenage fiction has been published since the 1970s but publishers have never been very successful in getting teenagers to buy and read books. Now they're realizing that teenagers are just older children, but are not adults either. They are often not interested in adult fiction. For this series we are looking for new writers who write especially for teenagers.
Athene Gorr's novel was published in the series last year and is selling well. Its title is The Purple Ring. She says, "The important thing is to encourage teenagers to pick up your book. I'm a new writer. Although I've got an unusual name which people might remember, nobody knows it yet! But my book has a fantastic cover which makes people want to look inside. Then they realize what an excellent story it is!"
And what do teenagers themselves think about the series? We talked to Sophie Clarke, aged 15. She said? "I've read a few books in the Waves series. They say they are for 14-19 year olds and I agree with that. We're not interested in the same things as people in their twenties and thirties. I like them and I think they look really good too. The only thing is that because bookshops put them in the children section, lots of teenagers won't find them so they may not do very well. And it's a shame there's no such series as I think lots of teenagers, especially boys, might buy."

【3】What do we know about the Waves series? ______
A.They have attractive covers.
B.They are about real facts.
C.They are popular with teenage boys.
D.They are wrongly placed in the children section.
【4】What does the author intend to do with the passage? ______
A.To compare different series of teenage fiction.
B.To give information about a new series of books.
C.To encourage more writers to create fictions for teenagers.
D.To explain why teenage fiction is easier to write than adult fiction.

My grandmother grew up in a world different from me. She experienced many things in her long life.
Though she never told stories, her stories were in the way she ate — she savored (品味) her food, cherished (珍惜) it. Often she would be the first to sit at the dinner table, and the last to leave. Food had been really scarce (缺乏) when she grew up.
Her stories were in the way she handed me lucky money. From a young age, my grandmother was brought up to understand the importance of hard work and the necessary of saving. Every Chinese New Year, I would be handed, or sent, a small red envelope that contained money, but never more than twenty dollars. When I was young , I didn’t understand why my grandmother gave me such a small amount of money. As I grew older, I realized that she wasn’t teaching me about money, but about tradition and hard work and family. The money was insignificant. I would probably spend it on any toy that I would lose soon after; it was the meaning behind her gift that mattered. It was her saying, “ I love you; I am your family and I want you to work hard as your family has before you.”
My grandmother’s stories were lessons. But they were never told in words. From the time that I was very young, up until she could barely remember my name, I remember her calling me “good girl”. Those two little words, in the course of my growing up, were a constant reminder that I was still so young, with still so far to go.
Now my grandmother is gone, but I see her every day. I see her in the women around me and in the mirror. She lives with me, inside me, and in the legacies(遺產(chǎn))that I will create. And I know she would be proud.

A.Her grandmother didn’t have much money.
B.Her grandmother preferred boys to girls.
C.It was a shame to accept others’ money.
D.It was important for her to work hard.
【3】What did the author realize hearing her grandmother call her “good girl” ?
A.She was really a good girl.
B.She needed to continually improve herself.
C.She should be proud of her manners and behaviors.
D.She was always a good girl in her grandmother’s eyes.
【4】What can we know about the author’s grandmother after reading the passage?
A.She loved telling stories.
B.She had never worked in her life.
C.She set a great example for the author.
