【題目】Imagine one day, the water taps in your house stop running. You have to buy water from shops. And still there isn’t enough for everyone. Your mother has to save the family’s shower water to do other things. Would you be able to stand that kind of life?

Probably not. But that’s what kids in Yemen are experiencing. Experts said Yemen is going to be the first country in the world to run out of water. According to a report, the capital, Sanaa, will run out of drinking water as early as 2025.

Because of the shortage, the government often cuts the water supply. Hannan, 18-year-old from Lahej, told the Times: “In a good week, we’ll have a water supply all week. But then the following week there will be water only for a day or two.”

Hannan said only rich people have enough water to use. They can buy water from the shops or from the water truck. Private companies own the trucks. They travel around the city every day to sell water-at very high prices.

“A lot of people can’t afford it,” she said. The average person in Yemen uses 100 to 200 cubic meters of water per year. That is far below the international water poverty line of 1,000 cubic meters.

The government is thinking of making use of seawater. But it will cost a lot and it may not happen soon enough to help the people of Yemen.

1The purpose of the text is to _______.

A. tell us what life is like in Yemen

B. draw our attention to water shortage

D. washing clothes with used water

3Hannan described .

A. what her life is like

B. how beautiful Lahej is

C. how people use water fully

D. how heavy the traffic in Lahej is

4We can infer from the text that .

A. Sanaa will run out of water in 10 years

B. Hannan is a teenager from a rich family

C. the capital of Yemen is developing fast

D. private companies make a lot of money

【題目】High in thick bamboo forests in the misty, 1(rain) mountains of southwestern China 2(live) one of the world’s rarest mammals: the giant panda, also called the panda, Only about 1,000 of these black-and-white 3(relative) of bears survive in the wild.

Pandas eat almost nothing 4 bamboo shoots and leaves. 5(occasion) they eat other plants, fish, or small animals, but bamboo accounts for 99% of their diets.

Pandas eat fast; they eat 6 lot, and they spend about 12 hours a day 7(do) it. The reason is 8 they digest only about a fifth of what they eat. Overall, bamboo is not very nutritious. To stay healthy, they have to eat a lot-up to 15 percent of their body weight in 12 hours-so they eat fast.

Pandas’ molars(臼齒) are very broad and flat. The shape of these teeth helps the animals crush the bamboo shoots, leaves, and stems they eat to get the bamboo to their mouths, 9 hold the stems with their front claws, which have enlarged wrist bones that act as thumbs for grasping things. A panda should have at least two bamboo species where it lives, or it will starve. Pandas are shy; they don’t go into areas 10 people live. This restricts pandas to very limited areas.

【題目】閱讀理解。

It’s the worst event in human being’s nautical(航海的)history , six times more deadly than the Titanic . When the German cruise ship Wilhelm Gustloff was hit by torpedoes(魚雷)fired from a Russian submarine in the final winter of World War II , more than 10,000 people mostly women , children and old people fleeing the final Red Army push into Nazi Germany were packed aboard .

An ice storm had turned the decks into frozen sheets that sent hundreds of families sliding into the sea as the ship tilted and began to go down . Others desperately tried to put lifeboats down . Some who succeeded fought off those in the water who had the strength to try to claw their way aboard . Most people froze immediately . I’ll never forget the screams , says Christa Ntitzmann , 87 , one of the 1,200 survivors . She recalls watching the ship , brightly lit , slipping into its dark grave-and into seeming nothingness , rarely mentioned for more than half a century .

Now Germany’s Nobel Prize-winning author Gtinter Grass has revived the memory of the 9,000 dead , including more than 4,000 children-with his latest novel Crab Walk , published last month . The book ,which will be out in English next year , doesn’t dwell on the sinking : its heroine is a pregnant young woman who survives the catastrophe only to say later : Nobody wanted to hear about it , not here in the West ( of Germany ) and not at all in the East .

The reason was obvious . As Grass put in a recent interview with the weekly Die Woche : Because the crimes we Germans are responsible for were and are so dominant , we didn’t have the energy left to tell of our own sufferings . The long silence about the sinking of the Wilhelm Gustloff was probably unavoidable and necessary .

By unreservedly owning up to their country’s monstrous crimes in the Second World War , Germans have managed to win acceptance abroad , marginalize the neo-Nazis at home and make peace with their neighbors .

Today’s unified Germany is more prosperous and stable than at any time in its long , troubled history . For that , a half century of willful forgetting about painful memories like the German Titanic was perhaps a reasonable price to pay . But even the most politically correct Germans believe that they’ve now earned the right to discuss the full historical record . Not to equate German suffering with that of its victims , but simply to acknowledge a terrible tragedy .

【1】Why does the author say the sinking of the Wilhelm Gustloff was the worst event in nautical history ?

A. It was attacked by Russian torpedoes .

B. Most of its passengers were frozen to death .

C. Its victims were mostly women and children .

D. It caused the largest number of casualties .

【2】How does Gunter Grass revive the memory of the Wilhelm Gustloff tragedy ?

A. By presenting the horrible scene of the torpedo attack .

B. By describing the ship’s sinking in great detail .

C. By giving an interview to the weekly Die Woche .

D. By illustrating the survival of a young pregnant woman .

【3】What’s the meaning of the underlined word marginalize

A. highlight B. weaken

C. strengthen D. fasten
