My Opinion on Cheating in Examinations

It is known to us all that some students cheat in examinations at school.

【答案】

My Opinion on Cheating in Examinations

It is known to us all that some students cheat in examinations at school.

As students, we often take examinations at school, but from time to time we have too many exams which are too difficult for us. On the other hand, some of us are lazy and don’t work hard at their lessons. Just for the reasons, when taking examinations, they sometimes cheat in order to get better results to please their parents and teachers.

In fact, it is wrong to cheat in examinationsbecause it breaks the rule of schools. Just imagine! If you were cheated by others , you would probably hate the behavior. As a saying goes, honesty is the best policy. So we students should be honest and try to get good grades by studying hard instead of cheating. What’s more, we should improve our study methods and get well prepared for examinations.

【題目】When 18thcentury scientists first came across Australias platypus (鴨嘴獸),they thought it was a trick. It is not surprising that the platypus made people confused. This funnylooking animal has feet and is a kind of warmblooded mammal(哺乳動物).

While other mammals usually keep their blood at around 37 degrees, the platypus has a lower body temperature of 32 degrees. As to its appearance, the platypus mouth is not really like the ducks; its mouth actually looks a bit softer. The platypus closes its eyes when swimming instead of watching its hunters. It uses its mouth to pick up outside information made by the creatures underwater.

Strangest of all,the platypus is a mammal that can lay eggs. And there is only one other kind of mammal that can lay eggs, the echidna(針鼴鼠) of Australia. Both the platypus and the echidna lay soft shelled eggs, and both feed their young with their own milk that comes out of their skin. These animals also walk in a way that is similar to crocodiles (鱷魚),with legs on the sides of their bodies rather than under them.

Though pretty in a special way,the platypus is actually one of the few mammals that are poisonous.A male platypus has knifelike bones on its back legs which have enough poison to kill a dog.

The platypus has the honor of being one of the oldest mammals in the world.Until the early 20thcentury,it was hunted for its fur,but it is now protected.Although the platypus is easily influenced by pollution,it is not under any immediate threat.

【題目】When tea was first brought to England between 1652 and 1654, it was so expensive that only the rich could buy it. It was said that an old couple had some sent to them as a great treat. But they did not know how it ought to be used. Eventually they boiled the leaves, put some of them on a piece of bacon for dinner, ate the leaves, and threw the tea soup away. However, tea quickly proved popular enough to replace ale(麥芽酒)as the national drink of England after King Charles II and his Portuguese wife began to follow this foreign tea tradition.

Before the introduction of tea into Britain, the English had two main meals — breakfast and dinner. Breakfast was ale, bread and beef. Dinner was a long, massive meal at the end of the day. It was no wonder that Anna, the Duchess of Bedford (1788 — 1861) experienced a________in the late afternoon. So she invited friends to join her for an additional afternoon meal at five o’clock in her castle. The menu centered around small cakes, bread and butter sandwiches, and, of course, tea. This summer practice proved so popular that the Duchess continued it when she returned to London, sending cards to her friends asking them to join her for “tea and a walking the fields”.

The practice of inviting friends to come for tea in the afternoon was quickly picked up by other social hostesses. A common pattern of service soon came into practice. The first pot of tea was made in the kitchen and carried to the lady of the house who waited with her invited guests, surrounded by fine porcelain(瓷器)from China. The first pot was warmed by the hostess from a second pot (usually silver) that was kept heated over a small flame. Food and tea was then passed among the guests, the main purpose of the visiting being conversation.

1The story of the old couple in Paragraph 1 is to show ____________.

A. how impolite the old couple were

D. how little English people knew about tea in those days

2The underlined phrase “sinking feeling” in Paragraph 2 refers to a feeling of ____________.

A. hunger B. loneliness

C. thirst D. anger

3According to the passage, the key factors of a typical afternoon tea include ____________.

a. cakes and bread

b. a massive meal

c. tea d. ale

e. fine porcelain

f. silver tea pot

g. a small flame

A. a, b, c, d, f B. a, c, e, f, g

C. a, b, e, f, g D. a, c, d, e, g

4We can know from the passage that afternoon tea ____________.

A. leads to the wide planting and large production of tea in England

B. helps bring King Charles II and his wife together in their childhood

C. is not only an additional afternoon meal but helps bring people together

D. contributes to the increasingly high price of tea and porcelain in England

【題目】The summer I was ten, my mother decided to bring us to the world of art. My brother and I were not very excited when we realized what my mother meant. What she meant was not that we could take drawing classes or painting classes but that we would have to spend one afternoon a week with her at the Fine Arts Museum. Before each visit to the museum, she made us read about artists and painting styles. It was almost as bad as being in school. Who wants to spend the summer thinking about artists when you could be with your friends at the swimming pool?

First we had to read about ancient Egyptians (古埃及人)and their strange way of painting faces and then go to look at them at the museum. My 12-year-old brother thought this was so funny, but I was not interested. Later we had to learn about artists in the Middle Ages who painted people wearing strange long clothing. We had to look at pictures of fat babies with wings and curly hair and with no clothes on flying around the edges of paintings. I certainly couldn't see what was so great about art.

On our last visit to the museum, something happened when I saw a painting by a woman called Mary. In it, a woman was reading to a child. The colors were soft and gentle, and you could tell by the mother's expression how happy she was just to be with the child. I couldn't stop looking at this painting ! I wanted to se every painting Mary had ever made! It was really worthwhile looking at so many paintings to find a painter who could interest me so much.

【1】The aim of the mother's plan was to __________.

A. take them to visit the museum

B. introduce them to the world of art

A. She came to feel her mother's love

B. She liked many paintings.

C. She hardly enjoyed herself.

D. She could understand the pictures of fat babies.

【3】What made the writer change that summer?

A. One of Mary's paintings.

B. A strange way of painting.

C. Artists in the Middle Ages.

D. Her mother's instruction.
