More American Fathers Stay Home to Raise Kids
Families in the U. S. are changing. 1. This number is twice that of 25 years ago. In 2012, 16 percent of all parents in the U. S. were stay-at-home dads. Gretchen Livingston is with the Pew Research Center. She says in the last 25 years there have been changes as far as dads taking on more caregiving responsibilities and mothers taking on more bread-winner responsibilities. 2. That is a huge change. The study finds that disability, sickness and unemployment are among the reasons that fathers stay home. 3. For example, Blake Humphreys has also been a stay-at-home dad for the past ten years. Blake and his partner have two kids. Blake is a big, muscular man. He is well over six feet tall, with a beard and long hair tucked under his baseball cap. He looks like the kind of man that would be hard to frighten. 4. "I am a stay-at-home dad for ten years. And I know that just saying it sounds scary to me right now." Blake became a stay-at-home parent for the same reason many women do – he made less money than his partner. Even thought the number of stay-at-home fathers is growing in the U. S., such men can still face worries about their self-worth. 5. To help solve this problem, he volunteers at his children’s school partly to battle that isolation and to build up his sense of self-worth.
A. But, some fathers do so simply to spend more time with their children.
B. Blake shared his feeling of anxiety.
C. A new study finds that in the U. S. more than two million fathers are staying home to take care of the house and family.
D. A lot of men lost their jobs
E. However, he says he does feel fearful when he counts the years he has been out of the workforce.
F. She adds that the number of hours a day that dads spend caring for their kids has tripled in the past decades.
G. Black expressed his true feeling towards being a stay-at-home dad.

請閱讀下列短文,并按照要求用英語寫一篇150詞左右的文章。
Following a four-day meeting of the Communist Party of China Central Committee in Beijing, the central government announces that China allows two children for every couple.
The People's Congress at provincial level or its standing committee has revised local regulations or made new ones, with the support and guidance of the National Health and Family Planning Commission, Jiang said.
"The number of new births will definitely increase in the coming years and we estimate that the peak will be over 20 million newborn babies," said Wang Pei'an, vice-minister of the National Health and Family Planning Commission.
At present, about 60 percent of China's child-bearing women are over 35 years old, which means an increase of 'elderly' mothers will be witnessed in China in the next few years, Wang said in a news release on Friday.
"It's safe to say that the two-child policy won't bring huge pressure on food security and basic public services, such as health, education and employment," Wang said. He estimated that another 30 million working people aged between 15 and 59 will be added by 2050. "It will benefit economic growth in the long term," Wang added.

It was once common to regard Britain as a society with class distinction. Each class had unique characteristics.
In recent years, many writers have begun to speak of the ‘decline of class ’ and ‘classless society ’ in Britain. And in modern day consumer society everyone is considered to be middle class.
But pronouncing the death of class is too early. A recent wide-ranging study of pubic opinion found 90 percent of people still placing themselves in a particular class; 73 percent agreeed that class was still a vital part of British society.; and 52 percent thought there were still sharp class differences. Thus, class may not be culturally and politically obvious, yet it remains an imprtant part of British society. Britain seems to have a love of stratification.
One unchanging aspect of a British person’s class position is accent. The words a person speaks tell her or his class. A study of British accents during the 1970s found that a voice sounding like a BBC newsreader was viewed as the most attractive voice. Most people said this accent sounds ‘educated ’ and ‘soft ’. The accents placed at the bottom in this study, on the other hand, were regional(地區(qū)的) city accents. These accents were seen as ‘common ’ and ‘ugly ’. However, a similar study of British accents in the US turned these results upside down and placed some regional accents as the most attractive and BBC English as the least. This suggests that British attitudes towards accent have deep roots and are based on class prejudice.
In recent years, however, young upper midder-class people in London, have begun to adopt some regional accents, in order to hide their class origins. This is an indication of class becoming unnoticed. However, the 1995 pop song ‘ Common People ’ puts forward the view that though a middle-class person may ‘ want to live like common people ’ they can never appreciate the reality of a working class life.
1.A recent study of pubic opinion shows that in modern Britain_________.
A. it is time to end class distinction
B. most people belong to middle class
C. it is easy to recognize a person’s class
D. people regard themselves socially different
2.The word stratification in Paragraph 3 is closest in meaning to_________.
A. variety B. division
C. authority D. qualification
3.The study in the US showed that BBC English was regarded as _________.
A. regional B. educated
C. prejudiced D. unattractive
4.British attitudes towards accent_________.
A. have a long tradition
B. are based on regional status
C. are shared by the Americans
D. have changed in recent years
5.What is the main idea of the passage?
A. The middle class is expanding.
B. A person’s accent reflects his class.
C. Class is a key part of British society.
D. Each class has unique characteristics.
