【題目】If you’re ever reading a book or watching a movie and get thedistinctfeeling you’ve come across the story before — or even better, can predict exactly what's going to happen next — there could be a good reason for that.
Researchers from the Computational Story Laboratory at the University of Vermont studied the complete text of some 1,737 fiction worksavailableon Project Gutenberg, an online collection of more than 50,000 digital books in the publicarea. They discovered that English literature consists of just six kinds of emotional arcs (情感弧線) that make up nearly all of the most well-known stories. By analysing thesentiment(情感) of language used in these texts, the researchers were able toshowthe emotional ups and downs for the stories as a whole. They discovered that negativewords like “poverty”, “dead”, and “punishment” dragged the emotion down, whilepositiveterms like “l(fā)ove”, “peace”, and “friend” brought it up.
According to the researchers, those six core (核心的) emotional arcs are:
“Rags to riches”(An ongoing emotional rise)
“Tragedy, or riches to rags”(An ongoing emotional fall)
“Man in a hole”(A fall followed by a rise)
“Icarus”(A rise followed by a fall)
“Cinderella”(Rise–fall–rise)
“Oedipus” (Fall–rise–fall)
Interestingly, based on download statistics from Project Gutenberg, the researchers say the most popular stories are ones that use more complex emotional arcs, with the “Cinderella” and “Oedipus” arcs registering the most downloads. Also popular are works that combine these core arcs together in new ways within one story, such as two“Man in a hole” arcs stuck together, or the “Cinderella” arc coupled with a tragic ending.

【題目】根據短文內容,選擇最佳答案。
I could feel the judging eyes of my family burning a hole into the back of my head as I picked up my phone. All of a sudden, the chattering in the living room died and all I could hear was the sound of the turkey sizzling (發(fā)出嘶嘶聲) in the oven.
“Look at her! She's been on her phone all day long! It's all your fault! Children will never respect elders if they are not taught how to behave! ” my grandmother shouted.
I was very shocked and angry! I opened my mouth to say something, but words failed me and I just sat down quietly on the chair like a mouse in its trap. I thought “Here we go again.” I truly love my family and I would do anything for them. I also know that they would do anything for me as well. However, there are moments that make me feel like they are just stuck with me. They all agree on one thing: technology is wrecking me.
If I am going to be treated like a child or completely ignored, I will most likely not enjoy your company, and I feel like this applies to (適用于) the majority of the people. So I sometimes simply shut myself in my room and listened to the voices coming from the living room, thinking: They all grew up in a world so different that it amazes me how they have actually gotten this far. Bad because they had almost no type of fast communication, and good because they were forced to interact (互動) with one another, which is something today's society is lacking in. "I didn't hear them call my name," explained Shelley Hennig to Active Teens (AT) as she talked about that exciting moment on national television when she won the honor of Miss Teen USA 2004. "Are you ready?" is what she heard. Then she said, "I shook my head no, and then they said 'yes' and it was announced again."
It was four days after that life changing moment for the seventeen-year-old high school student from Destrehan, Louisiana — she was still on cloud nine.
"I was so shocked! I never believed that it could actually really happen." Present in the audience that day were: her mother and father, older brother, her friends, and her dance teacher.
Understanding why members of her family and her friends would be there, AT asked why her dance teacher had traveled so far to see her compete. "She's always been my role model. I've danced with her since I was six. She's been through so many difficulties and came through them all. I've learned to get over bad life's experiences and learned how to move on because of her."
One of those bad life's experiences for Shelley happened three years ago when her brother Brad was killed in a drunk driving accident. He was 18. She found writing helped her get through the rough days. She said, "I write a lot about my brother. I write a lot, a lot, a lot..."
As Miss Louisiana Teen, she traveled around the state speaking to teens about the dangers of drinking and driving. In her role as Miss Teen USA, Shelley will continue to speak to youth about safe driving, in addition to many other things to help the youth.
When AT asked Miss Teen USA if she had any advice for our readers, she said, "Don't let anyone change you. Hang out with people that make you feel good about yourself. That way, it is easy to be yourself."
(1)What do the words "on cloud nine" in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
A.frightened
B.troubled
C.very happy
D.very angry
(2)Shelley takes her dance teachers as a role model mainly because she is ________.
A.determined
B.friendly
C.strict
D.experienced
(3)What suggestion does Shelley give to the teens?
A.Be yourself with the support of friends.
