You may not know a lot of people when you start senior school.Even if you know some freshmen(新生),you still feel nervous that you don't know any upperclassmen or teachers. How are you going to make friends among this sea of unknown faces?

Most senior schools hold a freshman orientation(迎新會(huì))before school actually starts. It is helpful not only because you learn your way around the building and get to meet fellow freshmen. That way, when you show up on your first day of school, you may already recognize a few familiar faces.

When you talk to people in t.he orientation, you'll probably find that a lot of them are feeling just like you are. They're all new to the school and don't know what to expect.Talking about a common concern with your classmates can help you develop friendships.

The work in senior school is something freshmen are probably worried about. The work in senior school builds on what you learned in junior school, giving you a more advanced knowledge of many subjects. So you may find you have more work to do or that it's a bit more challenging. If you ever find your work too difficult, teachers can give you extra help.

Senior school also has more extracurricular activities than middle school did such as clubs, music and theater groups and sports teams. This is a good time to explore your interests and try new things.

Junior school taught you the basic of academics, time management, and social skills while providing you with a little extra support and guidance.Senior school gives you the chance to learn how to be more independent and responsible.

[2017·云南師范大學(xué)附屬中學(xué)高三高考適應(yīng)性考試(四)]

“How do you explain the fact that even though you were both blind and deaf, you were able to accomplish so much?” Queen Victoria of England asked Helen Keller.

Ms Keller answered, “If it had not been for Anne Sullivan, the name of Helen Keller would have remained unknown.”

In fact, “Little Annie”, as she was called when she was young, was no stranger to hardship. She was almost sightless herself (due to a childhood fever) and was, at one time, diagnosed as hopelessly “insane” and was locked in the basement of a mental institution. On occasion, Little Annie would even violently attack anyone who came near.

An elderly nurse believed there was hope, however, and she made it her mission to show love to the child. She still continued to visit for she believed Little Annie could recover, if she was shown love.

Eventually, doctors noticed a change in the girl. Where they witnessed anger and coldness they noted gentleness and love. They moved her upstairs where she continued to improve. Then the day finally came when this seemingly “hopeless” child was released.

Anne Sullivan grew into a young woman with a desire to help others as she, herself, was helped by the kind nurse. It was she who saw the great potential in Helen Keller. She loved her, disciplined her, played with her and worked with her until the weak candle became a beacon of light to the world. She worked wonders in Helen's life; but it was a loving nurse who first believed in Little Annie and lovingly transformed an uncommunicative child into a compassionate teacher.

“If it had not been for Anne Sullivan, the name of Helen Keller would have remained unknown.” But if it had not been for a kind and dedicated nurse, the name of Anne Sullivan would have remained unknown. And so it goes. And how far forward will it lead?

1.When she was young, Little Annie________.

A.enjoyed being locked in the basement of a mental institution

B.complained about her loneliness

C.showed her friendly attitude to others

D.suffered from mental illness

2.Why did the “hopeless” Little Annie change into a helpful one?

A.Because an efficient way was found by doctors to cure her illness.

B.Because a nurse who was concerned about her helped her constantly.

C.Because she was taken good care of by her relative.

D.Because the illness was defeated by her own strong will.

3.How did Anne Sullivan help Helen Keller?

A.She devoted all her time to dealing with everything for Helen Keller.

B.She promised Helen Keller never to leave her.

C.She trained Helen Keller to control her behaviour.

D.She encouraged Helen Keller to make friends with others.

4.Which of the following might be the best title for the text?

A.A caring nurse

B.Chain of love

C.Without respect, without success

D.God helps those who help themselves

China's "Little People's Kingdom" is a theme park, where little people dance and sing in fairytale costumes, drawing both curious groups and criticism. The theme park, near Kunming City in Yunnan Province, employs 108 dwarfs from across the country, who gather on an artificial hillside twice a day to dance and sing for tourists. And all pretend to live in a tiny hilltop village.

The guests can watch shows like comedies, group dance and acrobatics. The show's centerpiece, a funny performance of Swan Lake, sees performers dressed in special pink costumes and pretending to be little swans.” The first time I performed it (Swan Lake)I felt a bit embarrassed. I had never worn a skirt like that before. But later, once I got used to it, I found I could do it very well,” said Chen Ruan, 21 ,from Hunan Province who joined the park when it opened.

For many of the employees, the park offers a rare opportunity to find work. As unlikely as it seems for men and women doing daily funny performances of Swan Lake, they think that it feels good to live in dormitories that look like caves while living with people with similar experiences. In addition, the life facilities in the park are made according to their special needs. Besides, performers in the park earn 2,000 yuan a month, around twice the salary of a high school graduate.

The founder of the park, Chen Ming, made his fortune by producing electronics and investing, but said he had always wanted to help the disadvantaged groups in the community. People, like human right activists for the disabled, think that such a park only encourages the discrimination against little people. The only requirement for participants to be employed at the theme park is to be shorter than 51 inches and be able to take care of themselves in daily life. The youngest employee is 18,and the oldest 48.

b.No taller than 51 inches.

c.Aged between 18 and 48.

d.Being a high school graduate.

A. a,b. B. a,c.

C. b,d. D. c,d.

4.What can be learned from the text?

D. The park lies in the city of Kunming.

5.What is the author's attitude towards the park?
