【題目】 Empathy (同理心)is one of those strange qualities—something almost everyone wants, but few know how to truly give or receive it. In a world where self-satisfaction is emphasized, it is in short supply but high demand. This is all the more reason to teach the next generation what it means to have empathy for those around them.
What Is Empathy?— Many people confuse sympathy and empathy, but they are two distinct values. Empathy is not just the ability to understand someone's feelings; criminals often take advantage of people by appearing to understand their feelings and subsequently gaining their trust. Empathy is more than that. Not only is it the ability to recognize how someone feels, but it also values and respects the feelings of another person. It means treating others with kindness, dignity, and understanding.
Kids Need To See Adults Show Empathy—While some children are gifted with naturally kind hearts, in most cases kids need to see empathy modeled by the adults around them. It begins with the way parents relate to their children. Parents who show an interest in the things that matter to their kids and respond to emotions in a positive and caring way are teaching the skill of empathy.
Meet Emotional Needs—When children have their emotional needs met, two things happen. They learn how to meet the emotional needs of others and they are anchored in what they are receiving, meaning that they are secure enough to give to others when the need arises but first they need to receive. An empty jug cannot fill a cup.
It's a good idea to talk to kids about emotions and how other people experience them. Give their emotions names (for example, jealousy, anger, and love) and teach them that these are normal. Talk to them about how to handle emotions in a positive way and point out situations where other people are experiencing emotions. Teach them about respecting the emotions of others and show them how to act in a situation where a response is required.
【1】Why is it that the next generation are taught to have empathy?
A.Because people tend to center themselves.B.Because everyone lacks empathy.
C.Because empathy is a strange quality.D.Because it's better to give than to receive.
【2】Which situation can empathy be used in?
A.When a mathematician is calculating the area of a farmland.
B.When a teacher is comforting a student about his failure in exams.
C.When a criminal is cheating a victim.
D.When a dancer is dancing to music.
【3】What does the underlined sentence "An empty jug cannot fill a cup" mean?
A.An empty jug is too small to hold a cup.
B.It's a must to talk to kids about emotions.
C.Adults should set an example to kids.
D.Kids give empathy with their emotional needs met first.
【4】What is the main topic of the passage?
A.How to train kids to have empathy.
B.How to distinguish sympathy and empathy.
C.How to help kids finish empathy-related tasks.
D.Whether kids can be trained to be more empathetic.

【題目】Young people almost never get a good press(評(píng)論) these days. “Their outlook is centered on trashy books and films,” expressed one citizen in a letter I recently came across in the Daily Mail. It seems that people have been complaining about the young since ancient times. However, the young are probably no worse than they’ve ever been. And I think they’re better. Teenagers today are brighter, more energetic, more outgoing, and more interesting than any generation before.
The truth is, we hear plenty of bad news about youth, but we never hear about the majority. Surely they all want to be footballers or attractive models? Not a bit of it. When research company Britain-Thinks examined teenagers attitudes earlier this year, they found that the most popular goal (shared by some 70 percent) was to “have a job you love”, followed by having a university degree, owning your own home and being in a happy, long-term relationship. It tallies with another study by the Institute for Economic and Social Research, which found that what made teenagers happiest wasn’t a new smart-phone or pair of shoes, but “the simple things in life” such as close friends, going swimming and spending time with their parents.
Indeed, the more you look at the young, the more impressive they seem. They are, of course, more technologically knowledgeable and skillful than any generation before them. But the interesting thing is that they’re not merely consumers; they’re creators. Think of all those young people developing their own websites or machines.
Seventeen-year-old Nick D’Aloisio is an example. He invented a news-summary app (應(yīng)用程序)called Summly and sold it to Yahoo this year for a reported 18 million. The company offered him a job in California, but he turned it down. “I’ll be staying in London,” he explained. “I want to finish my A levels and I couldn’t really live on my own out there.”
Of course they aren’t perfect, and every generation has its fair share of bad apples. But I think our future is in safe hands.
【1】The underlined part “tallies with” in Paragraph 2 probably means “ ” .
A. leads to B. focuses on
C. agrees with D. belongs to
【2】The example of the seventeen-year-old is to show that young people .
A. Are quite creative B. can find a job easily
C. can earn a living by themselves D. are homesick for their hometown
【3】What’s the author’s attitude towards the young generation?
A. Worried. B. Surprised.
C. Uninterested. D. Hopeful.

【題目】 Perhaps people have never realized that fashion materials should be one of the worst destroyers on our environment in countries across the world.
Everybody enjoys wearing warm fashionable sweaters, but they never realize how much harm they have done to the environment . Studies suggest that 70 percent of the damage to the grasslands is due to overgrazing(過(guò)度放牧).Because of that, tile balance of nature is broken, extreme weather occurs frequently, species are under serious threat, and finally grasslands are becoming desert gradually. This means that the clothes we buy and wear are contributing directly to destroying forests and habitats. In fact, cotton is by no means a fully environmentally friendly crops on the planet. For a start, it uses so much water to. produce, which leads to the freshwater shortage across the globe. It can take 2,700 liters of water to make just one cotton T-shirt. Additionally, growing cotton requires high levels of pesticide and other dangerous chemicals that often pollute waterways and soil. As for man-made fibers, the damage done by them is far worse than other materials.
In recent years, retailers (零售商)have increased the number of fashion collections each season even-each month or week. Throwaway culture is known as "fast fashion" due to low prices .
