Dear teacher,

How time flies! It's more than half a month since my senior school life began.

First,I want to say " Thank you very much. " for the great help you gave me with my study. Now I have made many new friendsi and we help each other greatly. The new teachers are friendly and enthusiastic. However,I also have some worries about my study. In the new school,I am no longer one of the top students just as I was in junior high school, which worries and upsets me. Sometimes I can't fol?low my teachers. The subjects in senior high school are much harder. So I am looking forward to your advice about my study.

  Best wishes!

                                      Yours,Li Hua

You can't always predict a heavy rain or remember your umbrella. But designer Mikhail Belyacv doesn't think that forgetting to check the weather forecast before heading out should result in you getting wet. That's why he created lampbrella,a lamp post with its own rain-sensing umbrella.

The designer says he came up with the idea after watching people get wet on streets in Russia. "Once,I was driving on a central Saint Petersburg street and saw the street lamps lighting up people trying to hide from the rain. I thought it would be appropriate to have a canopy (傘蓬) built into a street lamp," he said.

The lampbrella is a standard-looking street lamp fitted with an umbrella canopy. It has a built-in electric motor which can open or close the umbrella on demand. Sensors (傳感器) then ensure that the umbrella offers pedestrians shelter whenever it starts raining.

In addition to the rain sensor, there's also a 360°motion sensor on the fi-breglass street lamp which detects whether anyone's using the lampbrella. Af?ter three minutes of not being used the canopy is closed.

According to the designer, the lampbrella would move at a relatively low speed,so as not to cause harm to the pedestrians. Besides,it would be grounded to protect from possible lightning strikes. Each lampbrella would of?fer enough shelter for several people. Being installed at 2 metres off the ground,it would only be a danger for the tallest of pedestrians.

While there are no plans to take lampbrella into production,Belyacv says he recently introduced his creation to one Moscow Department, and insists his creation could be installed on any street where a lot of people walk but there are no canopies to provide shelter.

5. For what purpose did Belyacv create the lampbrella?

   A. To predict a heavy rain.

   B. To check the weather forecast.

   C. To protect people from the rain.

   D. To remind people to take an umbrella.

6. What do we know from Belyacv's words in Paragraph 2 ?

   B. It rains a lot in the city of Saint Petersburg.

   C. Street lamps are protected by canopies.

   D. He enjoyed taking walks in the rain.

7. Which of the following shows how the lampbrella works?

   A. motor—canopy—sensor

   B. sensor-^motor—*-canopy

   C. motor—sensor—canopy

   D. canopy-*-motor-* sensor

8. What does Paragraph 5 mainly tell us about the lampbrella?

   A. Its moving speed.

   B. Its appearance.

   C. Its installation.

   D. Its safety.

9. What can be inferred from the last paragraph?

   A. The designer will open a company to promote his product.

   B. The lampbrella could be put into immediate production.

   C. The designer is confident that his creation is practical.

   D. The lampbrella would be put on show in Moscow.

Are you sometimes a little tired and sleepy in the early afternoon? Many people feel this way after lunch. They may think that eating lunch is the cause of the sleepiness. Or,in summer, they may think it is the heat. However, the real reason lies inside their bodies. At that time―about eight hours after you wake up― your body temperature goes down. This is what makes you slow down and feel sleepy. Scientists have tested sleep habits in experiments where there was no night or day. The people in these experiments almost always followed a similar sleeping pattern. They slept for one long period and then for one short period about eight hours later.

In many parts of the world, people take naps in the middle of the day. This is especially true in warmer climates, where the heat makes work difficult in the early afternoon. Researchers are now saying that naps are good for everyone in any climate. A daily nap gives one a more rested body and mind and therefore is good for health in general. In countries where naps are tradi?tional, people often suffer less from problems such as heart disease.

Many working people, unfortunately, have no time to take naps. Though doctors may advise taking naps, employers do not allow it!If you do have the chance, however, here are a few tips about making the most of your nap. Remember that the best time to take a nap is about eight hours after you get up. A short sleep too late in the day may only make you feel more tired and sleepy afterwards. This can also happen if you sleep for too long. If you do not have enough time, try a short nap―even ten minutes of sleep can be helpful.

   D. About 3: 30 pm.

3. What would be the best title for the text?

   A. Just for a rest

   B. All for a nap
