【題目】閱讀理解
English is an excellent language to learn, whether it's for business, travel or personal reasons. Here are some important ways to improve your spoken English.
When you have time to speak, just try your best to practice. Don't wait until you “feel more comfortable” speaking in English, so start speaking English today. You'll be surprised at how quickly your language skills improve. Find a native English speaker who is willing to spend some time speaking English with you—you may be able to offer them a language exchange, where they spend 30 minutes speaking English with you and you spend 30 minutes speaking your native language with them.
Even if you have a good knowledge of the grammar and vocabulary, native English speakers may find it's very difficult to understand if you don't work on your pronunciation. Correct , clear pronunciation is necessary if you really want to improve your English. Listen closely to how native English speakers pronounce certain words and sounds and do your best to copy them.
The wider your vocabulary and the more English phrases you learn, the easier speaking English will become. Once you have learned a new word or phrase, you should make an effort to use it in a sentence—this is the best way to keep it in mind. You should also start a notebook of phrases that English speakers use all the time.
Another great way to add some more English conversation into your weekly practice is to sign up for a class of discussion group. Attending an English class is a great way to pay attention to some of the more formal aspects of speaking English. A class will teach you the correct way of speaking. Attending a discussion group is a more informal and relaxed way of learning English, where the emphasis(重點) is more on communication and relationship building than on speaking “correct” English.

【題目】It’s easy to spot signs of physical suffering, but much emotional pain can be easily masked. 【1】 “We don’t tend to have conversations about mental well-being,” says Dr. Barbara Van Dahlen, a clinic psychologist. Simply asking someone “How are you” may just get “Fine, thank you”, says Van Dahlen. “It’s important to be aware of what could lead to somebody needing help they’re afraid to ask for,” she adds. The following are four signs a friend might need help.
【2】
If you sense something different about the way your friend is acting — maybe he’s not smiling much these days, for instance — trust your feelings and reach out. “Try saying, ‘I see these things. I care about you. Can I be of help?’”, Van Dahlen says.
He’s unusually unhappy or annoyed.
【3】 “It may take more than one time to follow up if you’re talking to someone who is upset,” Van Dahlen says, “but if a friend responds with anger, that could mean you’re onto something.”
He’s less put together than usual.
Drinking more and ignoring personal hygiene (衛(wèi)生) can be signs that someone is in trouble. Don’t consider these behaviors are nothing. 【4】 He seems overwhelmed (壓倒) by life.
No one is happy all the time, but if your once optimistic friend can’t find anything to be hopeful about, he may be having thoughts of worthlessness, sadness and something negative. “【5】” says Van Dahlen, “so that more people can get the help they need.”
A. He’s acting a bit more withdrawn.
B. He doesn’t seem like himself lately.
C. Instead treat them as a sign to care for your friend.
D. Getting angry quickly and easily can be a sign that something is wrong.
E. It’s a constant effort to bring into the open discussions about mental health.

【題目】Like most of you, I’ve grown up with science putting it into my head that eating Cholesterol (膽固醇) is bad for us. My doctor has scolded me repeatedly for liking high-cholesterol snacks. But now, after 40 years of giving cholesterol such a rap, the scientific experts are reportedly ready to reverse (顛倒) themselves. Suddenly, we’re going to be told that high-cholesterol foods are not bad for us after all.
This isn’t the first time science reverses what it believes to be true, nor will it be the last. To optimists, the fluidity of science’s conclusions is a good thing - prove that science is always correcting itself in light of the very latest information. But a modem society that looks increasingly to science for not just what to eat, but also how to behave and what to think? How can we trust an authority that often changes its mind in extreme ways?
Science’s typical way isn’t limited to matters of nutrition. Go ahead and check it out for yourself by looking at the qualifiers used in the vast majority of honestly written science news articles. You’ll see that the stories are laced with weak words and phrases such as: some, in certain circumstances, probably, perhaps, may, could, tends, suggests, indicates, according to, is linked to, plays a role in. The grave problem I’ve observed over the years is that too often science and its reporters create the impression of certainty when none is proved. The cholesterol story is but one example of that make-believe certainty.
How much should we be concerned about this? A great deal, I believe, given science’s great and growing influence on our lives. At the very least, each of us needs to -understand that the scientific worldview — impressive as it surely is — is built on shifting sands. As Einstein once observed, “No amount of experimentation can ever prove me right; a single experiment can prove me wrong.”
【1】The underlined part “giving cholesterol such a rap” (in Para. 1) means the author .
A. always promotes use of cholesterol B. sometimes stands for cholesterol
C. avoids cholesterol generally D. eats cholesterol regularly
【2】In the eyes of the author, changes in scientific statements .
A. are worrying B. are meaningless
C. are a good thing in a way D. are the major way to improve science
【3】According to the text, which of the following is NOT the word commonly used in scientific articles?
A. Likely B. Surely
C. Seems D. Appears
【4】What can be concluded from the passage?
A. Science can blind us.
B. Science need be open to doubt.
C. Science is not as important as thought.
D. Science should be built on experiments.
