【題目】 The Great Depression that followed the stock market crash of 1929 saw hundreds of thousands of Americans out of work. In the years of great fear and depression, a lot of American citizens looked desperately to the federal government for assistance. Of all the programs designed by President Roosevelt when he took office in 1932, few were more criticized---or had more lasting impact---than the Work Projects Administration, better known as the WPA.
The intention of the WPA, which functioned from 1935 to 1943, was to design and administer public works projects to help relieve unemployment. The majority of these projects involved historic or artistic attempts. The WPA’s Writers Project, for example, was responsible not only for such practical works as state guidebooks but also for the collection of historically valuable oral histories. Over 2,900 of these records were collected in 24 states. They provide an irreplaceable firsthand account of people’s diets, customs, celebrations, and political and religious beliefs at the time.
The artworks created through the Federal Arts Project are one of the WPA’s most lasting achievements. Out-of-work painters, both famous and unknown, created paintings that beautified schools, libraries, and government buildings, WPA photographers traveled across the country recording the hardships of life on small rural farms. When the United States entered World War Ⅱ in 1941, WPA artists were enlisted to produce posters supporting the war effort. Many WPA artworks, including hundreds of small drawings picturing scenes of everyday life, still exist today.

【題目】 You already know many things that can reduce your chances of getting various types of cancer. Avoiding tobacco (煙草) products is an important thing, but have you ever considered your choice of dinner time as a reason for your risk of cancer? Probably not, but new research suggests that you might want to consider it.
A new study published in the International Journal of Cancer draws some very interesting connection between people’s time for dinner and their risk (風(fēng)險(xiǎn)) of developing certain types of cancers, including breast and prostate (前列腺) cancer, which are two of the largest killers of men and women.
“Modern life often means mistimed sleeping and eating that are connected with poor health effects in experimental studies,” the researchers explain. The research mainly focuses on how long before bedtime a person eats their last meal of the day. People who eat before 9 p. m or eat at least n couple of hours before hitting the sack have lower risks of developing cancers. The scientists find that these people enjoy a 20% drop in cancer risk when compared to those who eat dinner after 10 p.m. or eat right before climbing into bed.
The researchers followed the habits of thousands of people and tracked their nighttime eating habits and whether or not they developed cancer over the long term. The numbers seem to point towards early dinners being a very beneficial thing if you’re hoping to avoid some of the more common types of cancer, but the scientists still don’t know exactly why that’s true. At the moment they believe circadian rhythm (生物鐘) is playing a role, though they can’t say exactly how.

【4】What is mainly talked about in the passage?

【題目】 Here are my favorite tips for staying physically, mentally and emotionally healthy during the winter months. Vacation not included. 【1】
Raise your vitamin D levels naturally (without pills or sunlight). We’ve all heard about the marvels of vitamin D: heart health, skin health, immune health, mental health… But you don’t need to take pills or risk skin cancer to get high vitamin D levels. The big secret is that vitamin D levels are associated with healthy lifestyle changes. For example, if you lose just 5 percent or more of your body weight, your vitamin D blood levels will shoot up. Vitamin D likes to stay in fatty tissue, so when you lose fat, the vitamin D levels in your blood go up. 【2】. And when you eat your wild salmon, bake it rather than fry it. Other good food sources are trout, mushrooms and egg yolks, and my favorite, plain Greek yogurt.
【3】 Winter can be a tough time for many of us. All that darkness can take its toll on our mental health. The winter months can be very isolating for many people. My suggestion is that you and a close friend sign up for yoga, cooking or sewing class. 【4】
Eat more plants—the ones that are sources of omega-3 fatty acids. According to the famous Harvard Nurses’ Health Study, there was no relation between depression and intake of omega-3 fatty acids from fish, 【5】. And again, the wintertime is when many people have a higher risk of depression.
A.Take a class with a friends
B.but they did find a reduced risk of depression in those with moderate intake of plant-based omega-3 fatty acids
C.Isolate yourself during wintertime
D.The following three simple suggestions are things that anyone can do easily and inexpensively to stave off the winter blues and sniffles (鼻塞).
E.Not only do these kinds of classes improve your mental and physical fitness, but they help to fill that social craving (渴望) that we have as human beings, too
F.and there was no evidence to show the benefit of plants
G.Other ways to increase vitamin D naturally are to lower your cholesterol (膽固醇) exercise and eat more fatty fish, such as wild salmon
