Trust has been considered as the basis of any relationship, including friendship. No relationship can last long with a lack of trust. Not many of your friends will have real faith in you as you would like to believe. 【1】_________ Sometimes, it takes years, even a complete lifetime, to trust someone. However, how do we know if our friends have faith in us?

2_______With whom will you share things that you don’t want everyone to know? It would be with a close friend, whom you trust as much as you trust yourself. While a few of your friends may be fiercely protective of their privacy and may not tell their secrets to anyone, those who do, surely find you trustworthy and reliable.

Whom do you look up to for advice when you need it the most? It has to be either your parents or your friends. 3_______ This is a shining example of trust. You only seek advice from people you hold in high regard and find dependable. The friends who trust you will never forget to include you in the important decisions of their life.

Arguments and heated discussions are a part of every relationship, and this is also true for friendship. 4_______ While some people find it difficult to forgive and forget, your friends will never have problems moving on. It is because they trust you and believe that you will never cause any pain to them on purpose.

There are times in life when you find yourself a lonely soldier. 5_______Your friends will never let you down and will strongly stand for you when you need encouragement. You can determine that they trust you and believe in your beliefs, if they side with you when you need them the most.

A. People can be extraordinarily jealous sometimes.

B. You know they will never pass on a wrong suggestion.

C. In fact, winning trust is, by far, the most challenging aspect of relationships.

D. Two people cannot have identical reactions to a situation and different opinions do exist.

【1】C根據(jù)下句sometime,it takes years , even a complete lifetime to trust someone. In fact , winning trust is the most challenging aspect of relationships

【2】F由下句with whom will you。。。。as much as you trust yourself。 F,If your friends share their secrets , theres a

It has to be either your parents or your friends 可知下文仍然要講述的是家人朋友,而A選項中的they 恰好和 your parents or your friends 相呼應,所以B選項正確

【4】D上句Arguments and heated 。。。。

【5】G上句there are 。。 說的是自己的孤獨無依,而下句your friends will never let 。。。

Some people think that as more and more people have televisions in their homes, fewer and fewer people will buy books and newspapers. Why read an article in the newspaper, when the TV news can bring you the information in a few minutes and with pictures? Why read the life story of a famous man, when a short television program can tell you all that you want to know?

Television has not killed reading, however. Today, newspapers sell in very large numbers. And books of every kind are sold more than ever before. Books are still a cheap way to get information and enjoyment. Although some books with hard covers are expensive, many books are printed today as paperbacks (平裝本), which are quite cheap. A paperback collection of short stories, for example, is always cheaper than an evening at the cinema or the theater, and you can keep a book for ever and read it many times.

Books are a wonderful provider of knowledge and pleasure and some types of books should be in every home. Every home should have a good dictionary. A good encyclopedia, though expensive, is useful, too, because you can find information on any subject. Besides, you can have such books as history books, science textbooks, cookbooks, and collections of stories and poems. Then from time to time you can take a book of poems off your shelves and read the thoughts and feelings of your favorite poets.

1It can be inferred from the passage that .

A. TV programs are a chief provider of knowledge

B. cinemas are the best choice in getting information

C. reading is a cheap way of learning and having fun

D. newspapers are an expensive way to enjoy oneself

2What does the sentences “Television has not killed reading, however” underlined in the second paragraph suggest?

A. People only need reading, though.

B. Reading is still necessary today.

C. Reading is more fun than television.

D. Watching television doesn’t help reading.

3Which of the following is mainly discussed in the last paragraph?

A. Types of books.

B. Kinds of dictionaries.

C. Lists of history books.

D. Collections of stories and poems.

Two days ago I was woken up at 1 am. My roommate stood at the door (she was returning from a club) along with a huge middle-aged man with long hair. “Please let him in,” she told me, “He has been locked out of his apartment.” She had seen him, cold and shivering (it had snowed the previous night) and immediately asked him to sleep at our place. He was a law student in his fifties who had been doing his homework at the Laundromat (自助洗衣店) when he found he had left his keys in his house.

I have never had a strange man sleep in my house before. My roommate and I are both less than 5 feet and we have been asked not to speak to strangers since we were kids. Not to mention that we’re in a new city that we have lived in for less than a month. He accepted our kindness with hesitation and as soon as dawn broke he left.

The next day he came to our house, saying he owed us big time for not being frozen out in the cold. He left us a beautiful card saying—“Thank you so much. Your actions are so sincere.”

Later he cooked us a wonderful simple “thank you” dinner over which he told us about his life (a coach, a guide, a law student). He told us how he was completely touched by our concern for a total stranger. I learnt a lot that evening. As he talked about how once he brought a homeless man in to eat Christmas dinner with his family, I was deeply touched.

My roommate taught me a huge lesson: Let go of your fear; always leave the door of compassion (同情) open and you can never go wrong.

【1】From the first paragraph we can infer that _______.

A. the writer came back from a club earlier

B. the writer’s roommate was kind-hearted

C. the writer’s roommate often came back late

D. the man wanted to find a job at the Laundromat

2】When the writer knew the man would stay in their house for the night, at first _______.

A. she felt nervous B. she was angry

C. she felt excited D. she was disappointed

3】The next day the man went back to the writer’s house to ______.

A. tell them he was OK B. give them nice cards

C. show his thanks to them D. show he was really lucky

4】What can we learn from the passage?

A. The writer’s roommate worked in a club.

B. The man had helped others before.

C. The man was a complete failure in his life.

D. The two women have lived in this city since they were young.

The world is filled with smart, educated and gifted people. We meet them every day. A few days agomy car was not running well. I pulled it into a garage and the young mechanic fixed it in just a few minutes. He knew what was wrong by simply listening to the engine sound. I was amazed. The sad truth is that great talent is not enough.

I am constantly shocked at how little talented people earn. I heard the other day that less than 5 percent of Americans earn more than $100,000 a year. A business consultant who specializes in the medical trade told me how many doctors and dentists struggle financially. It was this business consultant(顧問)who gave me the phrase,“They are one skill away from great wealth.”

There is an old saying that goes,“JOB means ‘Just Over Broke(破產(chǎn))”. And unfortunatelyI would say that the saying applies to millions of people. Because schools do not think financial intelligence is intelligence, most workers “____________They work and they pay the bills. Instead I recommend that young people seek work for what they will learn, more than what they will earn.

When I ask the classes I teach“How many of you can cook a better hamburger than McDonald's?” almost all the students raise their hands. I then ask,“So if most of you can cook a better hamburgerhow come McDonald's makes more money than you?” The answer is obvious: McDonald's is excellent at business systems. The world is filled with talented poor people. They focus on perfecting their skills at building a better hamburger rather than the skills of selling and delivering the hamburger.

1The author mentions the mechanic in the first paragraph to show that .

A. he is just one of the talented people

B. he is ready to help others

C. he has a sharp sense of hearing

D. he knows little about car repairing

2The underlined part in the third paragraph can be best replaced by“ ”.

A. spend more than they can afford

B. do in their own way

C. live in their own circle

D. live within what they earn

3Why do talented people earn so little according to the author?

A. They don't work hard enough.

B. They lack financial intelligence.

C. They don't make full use of their talents.

D. They have no specialized skills.

4The main purpose of the author is to tell us .

A. how young people can find a satisfactory job

B. what schools should teach about finance

C. why so many talented people are poor

D. how McDonald's makes much money
