It was a hot, sticky (悶熱的)summer day in Texas and I was surrounded by laundry, loads of baby clothes all over the floor.I folded a towel, tears streaming down my face.My newborn Dillon, just a few weeks old, was sleeping peacefully beside me.My 4?year?old Tanner was watching “Ninja Turtles”,laughing at the TV screen.
Meanwhile I was exhausted, with dark circles under my eyes and clothes dirty.I loved my baby boys more than anything. But this wasn't the life I'd pictured for myself.I was only 27 years old.Once upon a time, I'dhad dreams.I'd wanted to become a good journalist (記者)and photographer, not a stay?at?home mom, whose sleep was taken away, spent her days changing diapers (尿布).I kept on folding...and the tears kept coming. What about my dreams and future?
The word “this is the most important job in the world” spread and I nearly dropped the towel I was folding.I looked around, but saw nobody there.Later I realized the voice must have come from the TV.I calmed down.I'd never thought a house?woman's job was the most important job in the world.I put the laundry aside, carried Tanner up in my arms and hugged him tight. From that day on, I was willing to do my housework and I made motherhood my top priority (優(yōu)先考慮的事)even when I returned to the workforce as a journalist and photographer.
Of course, it wasn't all fun and games raising three children, especially after I gave birth to my third son, Noah.Anyhow, the laundry still gave me great joy to watch my children grow healthily. Now Noah is about to enter high school. And Tanner and Dillon both have become kind, courageous young men and graduated from the key colleges.Today I think raising a child is the most rewarding job.

About us
Started by private citizens who believe that everyone should have the right to take showers, Lava Mae seeks to reach those who lack these necessities.
We turn retired public transportation buses into bathrooms because we believe that for the thousands of men, women and children living on our streets, a shower can be the first step towards change.
Our partners

Less is more. This is why we say: reduce things by half instead of doubling them, relax instead of stressing, and slow down instead of speeding up. Apply these principles(原則) in your everyday life. You will then find yourself well along on your journey to simplification.
Separate Your Actions
When you concentrate on one task, you find you have energy that you didn’t even know you had. Just imagine: you have to carry two heavy pigs over 100 yards. If you carry two, it will take forever. But if you tie one pig in a place, pick up the other, gather all your strength and make a dash for the finish line, pause for a moment, run back and get the other one, and carry the second pig to the finish line, then you can be sure of success.
Say “No” Firmly
If you have the feeling that 24 hours per day are not enough for all the things you need to do, then it’s not because the day has too few hours, but because you have too many activities. The solution is equally simple: say no to accept so much work in your private life or your working life.
Allow Yourself to Be Weak
“I can deal with stress” is regarded as a positive statement in the world of work. People who can deal with stress are given more and more to --- until one day they break.
Pay careful attention to the signs that tell you that you are under more stress than you can deal with. If you become ill, or your work efficiency decreases, change your life goals. Say quite openly, “I can’t manage that.”
Stop Expecting Everything to Be Perfect
“If only I were slimmer, more beautiful, richer, more clever, then I would be happier.” This is a dream that makes a lot of people ill, and unhappy. Life is imperfect. Only those who accept this reality can lead a really full life.
Of course there are activities in which errors are dangerous: driving a car; crossing the road. But life doesn’t entirely have these things. In among them there is possibility that you may make small and large mistakes.
Escape Now and Then
Successful people all have their own places where they can be left alone in order to work. Find out which places improve your creativity. For me it’s the train. When I know that I’m going to be traveling for four hours without phone calls or people knocking on my door, I find my mind is free and I can read or write articles.

Sharing Beauty
It was in October. I was aimlessly wandering down the street, heading into a most gloriously beautiful sunset. I had an urge to speak to someone on the street to share that beauty, but it seemed everyone was in a hurry.
I took the next-best action. Quickly I ducked into a department store and asked the lady behind the counter if she could come outside for just a minute. She looked at me as though I were from some other planet. She hesitated, and then seemingly against her better judgment, she moved toward the door.
When she got outside I said to her, “Just look at that sunset! Nobody out here was looking at it and I just had to share it with someone.”
For a few seconds we just looked. Then I said, “God is in his heaven and all is right with the world.” I thanked her for coming out to see it; she went back inside and I left. It felt good to share the beauty.
Four years later my situation changed greatly. I came to the end of a twenty-year marriage. I was alone and on my own for the first time in my life. I lived in a trailer park which, at the time, I considered a real come-down, and I had to do my wash in the community laundry room.
One day, while my clothes were going around, I picked up a magazine and read an article about a woman who had been in similar circumstances. She had come to the end of a marriage, moved to a strange community, and the only job she could find was one she disliked: clothing sales in a department store.
Then something that happened to her changed everything. She said a woman came into her department store and asked her to step outside to look at a sunset. The stranger had said, “God is in his heaven and all is right with the world,” and she had realized the truth in that statement. From that moment on, she turned her life around.
1.The author asked the woman to go outside to ______.
A. admire the sunset B. cheer her up
C. offer some help D. have a chat
2.Four years later, the author______.
A. found her dream job B. put an end to her marriage
C. worked in a laundry room D. lived in the same community
3.After reading the article in the magazine, the author was probably______.
A. disappointed B. puzzled
C. inspired D. overjoyed
