“Made in China” has Changed
Many shoppers in the West still prize labels, boasting (吹噓) a product was made in Italy without knowing that a growing number of Italian products come from factories that are Chinese?owned and staffed. The products which were marked “Made in China” gave the buyer an impression of “l(fā)ow pride and low cost, low technology and development”. The statement used to be true, but now it has changed.
“Made in China” is becoming a leading part in the world market. China's garment industry (制衣業(yè)) has been investing in producing technology and training for decades, and its workforce has collectively gotten better at sewing garments. As a result, the quality of Chinese?made clothes is rising fast. It has been home to a highly?skilled, highly?specialized garment industry, one that supplies even some high?end (高端的) labels and offers the best mix of price, speed, and quality.
“If I was to make a basic men's jean, I'd make that in Pakistan,” said Edward Hertzman, co?owner of the trade publication Sourcing Journal. “If I was going to make a fashionable women's garment, I would move to China because their skill set is better, their hand is better, their finishing is better, and they can handle that type of fashion.”
Indeed, luxury fashion labels now routinely make things in China. Burberry, Armani, and Prada have all produced things there, because they're still able to get good workmanship at a relatively low price. Even the Japanese brand Visvim, known for its crazy attention to detail, also produces high?end, handmade footwear in China.
Despite the rising wages and costs of doing business in China, companies have not walked away. “China is viewed by people who make buying decisions as unique and hard to copy elsewhere,” says Josh Green, CEO of Panjiva.

A.It used to be associated with poor quality.

A.①②③ B.①②④
C.②③④ D.①③④
3.What is the similarity between Prada and Visvim?
A.Both of them are from Japan.
B.Neither of them sells at a low price.
C.They both make products in China.

【小題】What can be learned from the last paragraph?
A.Doing business in China costs a lot more now.
B.Chinese companies are more creative than others.
C.Foreign producers want to copy China's success.
D.Rising costs stop the interest of foreign companies.

Dear Mr. Wolfson,
The purpose of this letter is to inform you of one of our citizens who I believe should receive some special recognition for dedicated (敬業(yè)的) community service. The person I recommend is Elizabeth Samuelson. I believe you know her in your position as volunteer coordinator (協(xié)調員).
I have known Elizabeth for more than 20 years as both a friend and a neighbor. During that time I have seen her work tirelessly on scores of community projects and committees. As far as I know, she has never received any kind of recognition from the community for her work. I believe she should be given some sort of special recognition.
Just last year alone, she worked on at least six different community projects including the Park Renewal Project and the Heritage Homes Fund?Raising Banquet. In addition, she is a weekly driver for the Meals?on?Wheels program and she visits patients in the care unit on a regular basis. Whenever a project or committee needs her, she will put herself into the work wholeheartedly. I'm sure that if you check with a few of your staff members who have been there over the years, they will confirm Elizabeth's community service record and probably be able to add many examples to the few I have given here. By the way, Elizabeth has no idea that I am writing this. She is a humble (謙虛的) person, and if she were aware of it, she would not allow me to send it.
I thought about writing such a letter about her a number of times in the past but just never took action. Then last week, I noticed in the paper that you sponsor (主辦) an annual dinner at which dozens of awards are given out to people with much less community service than Elizabeth. In fact, I checked with her and she has never even been invited to that annual event!
I urge you to correct that omission (疏忽) now and take action to see that Elizabeth is properly recognized for her many years of silent but outstanding service to this community.
Sincerely,
Linda Sullivan
1.Linda is Elizabeth's ________.
A.friend and colleague B.neighbor and leader
C.neighbor and worker D.friend and neighbor
2.From the letter we know that Linda ________ Elizabeth much.
A.depends on B.looks down upon
C.ignores D.respects
3.According to the letter, Elizabeth ________.
A.wants to be asked to take part in the annual event
B.contributes much to the community
C.has been invited to the annual dinner
D.has been given a lot of honors
4.What can we learn about Mr.Wolfson from the letter?
A.He knows Linda quite well.
B.He is a careless person.
C.He tries something to reward those who have done much community service.
D.He tries his best to find Elizabeth and do something to reward her.

How smartphones could be ruining your relationship
We carry our smartphones with us wherever we go. We didn’t have the time to set any boundaries for smartphone usage, and now we find ourselves unable to save our relationships. Smartphones are very useful in many circumstances. 1.
Lack of mindfulness
We become totally lost in our digital lives. Smartphones get in the way of our relationships, making it impossible for us to wholeheartedly devote our attention to the present moment. 2.
Loss of communication
In fact, some people talk more about their relationships on Facebook than they do face-to-face with the person they’re actually in a relationship with! 3. Why not do something together, other than sitting side by side staring at the displays on your individual phones? Excessive (過度的) smartphone use makes it impossible for us to build any new, sincere relationships.
Prioritizing (優(yōu)先) the wrong models of communication
4. We damage our happiness and harm our relationships, failing to see which is more important in our life. Small, precious moments are slipping away because we’re focused on reading all of our emails, and we get unreasonably anxious if we put our phones away even for 30 minutes.
5.
Unless you put boundaries to your phone usage, you will become addicted to it. We shouldn’t feel stressed and anxious when we’re in phone-free areas. We should be happy that we can value special moments happening each day and make good use of our time and our relationships.
A. Breakdown of relationships
B. Stress and smartphone separation anxiety
C. However, they can harm our relationships in indirect ways.
D. As a result, we lose many moments that are special and never to be lived again.
E. You don’t even have to take a smartphone addiction test to see if you’re addicted to it.
F. Why choose to communicate through social media, rather than enjoy a friend’s company?
G. We’ve become addicted to digital communication, regarding real-life communication as secondary.
