Many factors may be responsible for procrastination. To begin with, the task people are involved in seems too difficult to complete. Besides, due to an overconfidence in their abilities, people often fail to manage their time efficiently. Moreover, an individual may also choose to procrastinate because the job is not challenging enough. Procrastination has negative effects on our life, such as causing stress and anxiety, leading to health problem, impeding our ability to achieve our goal and so on.

Dear Tom,

I’m happy to get from your letter and knew you’re coming to China.

Among the two trips to the Yangtze River and Mount Tai, both are high recommended (推薦). Moreover, the scenery along the river are amazing, with many well-know sightseeing spots. That’s because I think the trip along the Yangtze will be a better choice.

Dear Jeremy and Alice,

Although we've been delighted to have you as neighbors, we're hoping to settle something that bothers to us. In a word, your dog—Cleo.

We've called several time about Cleo's early morning barking. It is difficult to understanding why she barks every minute she's outside. The early morning barking have been disturbing us as we are often up all night with the baby. Beside, Cleo tends to bark a average of six hours a day. This morning she starts barking even before 5 o'clock. That is too much for us, considering how closely the houses are.

We appreciate our apologies and goodwill, but we hope that you can figure a good way of settling the matter.

Sincerely,

Jack and Rose

【題目】閱讀理解
It might be something that you miss unless it's pointed out to you. Next time you go to a public bathroom, take a look before you sit down on the toilet seat. You won't see a circle shape, but something designed not connected in the front part: a U.
This is an open-front toilet seat, and thanks to the American Standard National Plumbing (水管裝置) Technology, it's the go-to for most public restrooms. This technology was created in 1955 and further developed by the Uniform Plumbing Technology in 1973, according to Mental Floss.
As to the plumbing rules which fit water seats, the first two requirements are as follows:
Toilet seats shall be of smooth, non-absorbed material.
All Toilet seats, except those within apartment units, shall be either of the open front type or have an automatic seat cover.
This part of the rules also clears up why you won't meet fur toilet seats in truck stop bathrooms. The reason for both of these rules comes down to health. With an open front, there's less surface area that can make incidental touch with your private regions. But what about the toilet seat covers you can use? Unfortunately, those don't offer as much protection against bacteria as you think they do.
They were also designed with women in mind, according to Lynne Simick, the senior vice president of technology development at IAPMO. The open front of the seat is fairly good for women.
Now that you know why the public toilet seat is shaped the way it is, learn which one is the cleanest you can use.
(1)What do we know about the toilet seat from the first paragraph?
A.It's round.
B.It's expensive.
C.It's complex.
D.It's specialized.
(2)What is the advantage to use the toilet seat with an open front?
A.It has an automatic seat cover.
B.It is made from non-absorbed material.
C.It is very comfortable to sit on.
D.It can protect you from bacteria.
(3)Which of the following is the best choice according to the text?
A.
B.
C.
D.
(4)What does the text mainly talk about?
A.How U-shaped toilet seats came into being.
B.Why public toilet seats are shaped like a U.
C.What materials are used in public toilet seats.

Two years before, I traveled to Brazil and I rented for a car. Unfortunate, I had an accident and hit another car, and I needed to stay in a hospital for at least two week. I called my parents, so I did not tell them what had happened. I knew that they will be worried about myself because I was so farther away, and that my mother would not sleep if she knew. 【題目】閱讀理解

閱讀下列短文,從每題所給的四個(gè)選項(xiàng) (A 、B 、C D )中,選出最佳選項(xiàng)。

A recent announcement by scientists that they have successfully cloned the first human embryo(胚胎) has caused much debate and has shocked many people around the world. On the one hand, some scientists point out that if you clone an embryo, you can produce valuable tissues(組織) and organs that could be used to save human lives. On the other hand, many people, including some scientists, disagree and fear that if mankind interferes with (干涉) nature in this way, they may be on their way to producing a real-life Frankenstein's monster.

Cloning is producing an exact copy of a plant or an animal using its cells. The first mammal to be cloned successfully from an adult cell was Dolly—the sheep. She was born in 1996 and died in early 2003, at a much younger age than normal. When she was born, many people were angry because they thought cloning would create more diseases in the animal world. However, in general the scientists were praised for their wonderful scientific breakthrough.

The Scottish scientist who created Dolly, Ian Wilmut, is shocked that some scientists are now considering cloning human beings. Although he researches cloning, he has never thought of creating copies of humans. Instead, he thinks the scientists should concentrate on creating new tissues and organs that could eventually be used to cure diseases like cancer. However, some people consider that cloning human embryos with the intention of destroying them shows no respect for human lives.

While cloning human embryos is illegal in many countries, some scientists are already pushing ahead with the research so as to deliver a cloned human baby. Severino Antinori, an Italian doctor, is one of the leaders in this field of research. He has declared that he wants to be the first to clone a human being.

In China, scientists have focused their efforts on cloning animals, as well as stem cells to be used in medical research. China has succeeded in producing clones of cows and goats, and continues to research ways in which cloning can benefit mankind.

【1】Which of the following statements about cloning is TRUE according to the passage?

A. Cloning technology can only be applied to animals.

B. A cloned animal can live longer than a normal one.

C. People all over the world are happy about the birth of Dolly.

D. Cloning can produce valuable tissues and organs to cure human diseases.

【2】The reasons why some people disagree with cloning include the following EXCEPT that .

A. cloning may produce a real-life Frankenstein's monster

B. cloning might create more diseases in the animal world

C. cloning human embryos shows no respect for human lives

D. cloning can't help those who want to clone their dead children

【3】Who is in favor of cloning human beings?

A. Ian Wilmut.

B. Severino Antinori.

C. The author.

D. The Chinese scientists.
