12.Howeverhard/much I (had) tried,I could not read his handwriting.(try)
不論我怎樣努力,還是沒(méi)法看清他寫的字.

分析 翻譯:However hard/much I (had) tried,I could not read his handwriting.

解答 答案:hard/much I (had) tried.
"不論"表示本句中含有讓步狀語(yǔ)從句,"我努力"應(yīng)該翻譯為"I try hard"或者"I try much",由于在空格前有however,所以相應(yīng)的副詞應(yīng)放在however后面,然后接主謂內(nèi)容,所以本題答案應(yīng)該是"hard/much I (had) tried".

點(diǎn)評(píng) 考查此類問(wèn)題,需要仔細(xì)分析句子成分,了解句中含有什么從句,用什么樣的語(yǔ)序,然后作出正確翻譯.

Jim suffered heart problems. In conversation he expressed little joy and it seemed that his life was drawing to a close.

When his heart problems led to operation, Jim went through it successfully, and a full recovery was expected. Within days, however, his heart was not beating properly. Jim was rushed back to operation, but nothing was found to explain the cause of his illness. He died on the operating table on the day before his 48th birthday.

Dr. Bruce Smoller, a psychologist (心理學(xué)家), had had many conversations with him, and the more he learned, the stranger he realized Jim’s case was. When Jim was a child, his father, a teacher, suffered a heart attack and stayed home to recover. One morning Jim asked his father to look over his homework, promising to come home from school at noon to pick it up. His father agreed, but when Jim returned his father had died. Jim’s father was 48.

“I think all his life Jim believed he killed his father,” Dr. Smoller says. “He felt that if he had not asked him to look at his homework, his father would have lived. Jim had been troubled by the idea. The operation was the trial (判決) he had expected for forty years. “Smoller believes that Jim willed himself not to live to the age of 48.

Jim’s case shows the powerful role that attitude plays in physical health, and that childhood experiences produce far-reaching effect on the health of grown-ups. Although most cases are less direct than Jim’s, studies show that childhood events, besides genes, may well cause such midlife diseases as cancer, heart disease and mental illness.

3.From Smoller’s words, we can infer that ________.

A. Jim’s father cared little about his study

B. Smoller agreed that Jim did kill his father

C. Jim thought he would be punished some day

D. Smoller believed Jim wouldn’t live to the age of 48

4.Which of the following could have strong effect on one’s physical health according to the text?

2.It's such a happy-looking library, painted yellow, decorated with palm-tree stickers and sheltered from the Florida sun by its own roof.About the size of a microwave oven,it's pedestrian-friendly,too,waiting for book lovers next to a sidewalk in Palm Beach country Estates, along the northern boundary of Palm Beach Gardens.
It's a library built with love.
A year ago, shortly after Janey Henriksen saw a Brian Williams report about the Little Free Library organization,a Wisconsin-based nonprofit that aims to promote literacy and build a sense of community in a neighborhood by making books freely available, she announced to her family of four,"That's what we're going to do for our spring break!"
Son Austin, now a 10th-grader,didn't see the point of building a library that resembles a mailbox. But Janey insisted, and husband Peter unwillingly got to work. The 51-year-old owner of a ship supply company modified a small wooden house that he'd built years earlier for daughter Abbie's toy horses, and made a door of glass.
After adding the library's final touches (裝點(diǎn)),the family hung a signboard on the front, instructing users to"take a book, return a book,"and making the Henriksen library, now one of several hundred like it nationwide and among more than 2,500 in the world, the only Little Free Library in Palm Beach County.
They stocked it with 20 or so books they'd already read,a mix of science fiction, reference titles, novels and kids'favorites."I told them, keep in mind that you might not see it again,"said Janey,a stay-at-home mom.
Since then, the collection keeps replenishing (補(bǔ)充) itself, thanks to ongoing donations from borrowers. The library now gets an average of five visits a day.
The project's best payoff, says Peter, are the thank-you notes left behind."We had no idea in the beginning that it would be so popular."(317 words)
