As we know, the earth’s climate has changed over time. The present rate of climate change depends, in large part, on human activities. Today, people all over the world are making everyday choices that help the environment. Small actions matter and they all make a difference. In other words, climate change is your business.
A woman in Nicaragua buys fluorescent(熒光的) light bulbs that are 80 percent more energy-saving than traditional ones. Many governments are now subsidizing energy-saving lights to encourage people to turn to them. Consumers are discovering that the new-generation bulbs help them save money in the long run.
Agriculture accounts for about 14 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions(排放), and transporting the food around adds to the environmental cost. There is a team of young vegetable growers in the United Kingdom who want to encourage kids to start planting their own fruit and vegetables.
A young lawyer wearing business clothes rides her bicycle to work in a large U.S. city. She’s been biking to work every day for the past two years and says it’s a lot easier than many people think. A recent study found that more Americans bike or walk to work today than before.
A university student from southeastern China carries a reusable shopping bag to cut back on disposable(一次性的) plastics. Some large shopkeepers have removed paper and plastic bags, and consumers are responding.
In Canberra, Australia, summers are hot and winters cold. To save electricity, Adam Wilson in Canberra uses an energy-saving heating system, and he keeps the temperature lower than he did in years past. He still makes it through the summer without air conditioning.

Unless we spend money to spot and prevent asteroids now,one might crash into Earth and destroy life as we know it,say some scientists.
Asteroids are bigger versions of the meteoroids(流星)that race across the night sky. Most orbit the sun far from Earth and don't threaten us. But there are also thousands whose orbits put them on a collision course with Earth.
Buy $ 50 million worth of new telescopes right now. Then spend $ 10 million a year for the next 25 years to locate most of the space rocks. By the time we spot a fatal one,the scientists say,we'll have a way to change its course.
Some scientists favor pushing asteroids off course with nuclear weapons. But the cost wouldn't be cheap. Is it worth it? Two things experts consider when judging any risk are: 1) How likely the event is; and 2) How bad the consequences if the event occurs. Experts think an asteroid big enough to destroy lots of life might strike Earth once every 500,000 years. Sounds pretty rare-but if one did fall,it would be the end of the world. “If we don't take care of these big asteroids, they'll take care of us,” says one scientist. “It's that simple.”
The cure, though, might be worse than the disease. Do we really want fleets of nuclear weapons sitting around on Earth? “The world has less to fear from doomsday(毀滅性的) rocks than from a great nuclear fleet set against them,” said a New York Times article.

Teenagers’ secrets should be kept to themselves and no one else ,their parents included, has the right to stick their nose into their private life. As we know, teenagers are going through a special period of development both physically and psychologically. They are curious about and puzzled by the unexpected changes in their body and mind. What’s more, exposed to a world of adults, it is only too natural for them to begin imitating (模仿) adults’ behaviors in secret. Boys begin to smoke and girls begin to spend time doing their hair. Some even begin to date with a girlfriend or boyfriend without their parents’ knowledge. They are doing al this in secret because they are still unsure whether it is right to do so and afraid that ,if found out by their parent, they will get misunderstood and even punished. And in fact, in many cases, the parents can not deal with the matter well and hurt their children’s feelings badly, making children no longer willing to communicate with their parents. When this happens, it hurts terribly the whole family feeling. So it seems right that teenagers should keep their secrets to themselves and their parents should allow their children that right.

Most recently, it's very common in students that they need a parent present for job interviews.
Naturally, it's easy to blame the students in these situations, but the bigger problem is us.We—as parents—are so eager to shelter our kids that we fail to realize that this in itself is harming them.As the mother of two young sons, I have to remind myself constantly that the biggest responsibility I have as a parent is to help them develop the skills needed to live without me.So, I'll let them fail.
I'll let them fail because as long as they are safe and warm inside their comfort zones, they will never grow.Although failure comes along with loss, heartbreak, disappointment, etc, these will be part of growth for them. And leaving them alone is my way of helping them become equipped to fit in this world as we know it today. From terrorism and seemingly endless natural disasters, to our national debt and beyond, if we expect the next generation to stand up to the very real problems of our time, we need to stop feeding them and start teaching them how to fish.
My children now are becoming little masters of compromise(妥協(xié)),but they try to negotiate (協(xié)商) everything now. It's a small price to help them learn a skill they'll use for the rest of their lives, including when I don't accompany them on job interviews.
1.Why do parents accompany their kids on job interviews?
A.Because they want to protect their kids from difficulties.
B.Because they think they can help them on the questions.
C.Because their kids are too shy to attend interviews.
D.Because their kids strongly request them to do so.
2.According to the author, what is beneficial to kids' development?
A.Sheltering them. B.Keeping them safe.
C.Leaving them alone. C.Blaming them.
3.Why does the author stress failure in kids' life?
A.To make them stronger than other kids.
B.To help them grow in this tough world.
C.To help them develop all social skills.
D.To make them learn to compromise.
4.Which of the following might be the best title for the text?
A.Never Shelter Your Kids B.Let Your Kids Fail
C.Be Eager to Grow Up D.Live Without Parents
