I was working as a short-order cook at two restaurants in the same neighborhood. At an Saturday night, I was finishing the dinner shirt at a first restaurant and hurrying to work at the second place, but I was delayed. Because one table kept sent back an order of pancakes, insisting they were too colder. I replaced it several times, and still the customers were dissatisfied.
As soon as I was able to leave, I race out of the restaurant. Hardly I arrived at my second job when a server immediately handed me my first order. “Make sure of that these pancakes are hot,” she said, “because the customers just left a restaurant down the street where kept serving them cold ones.”
【1】At改為On
【2】a改為the
【3】send改為sending
【4】colder改為cold
【5】it改為them
【6】and改為but
【7】race改為raced
【8】Hardly后加had
【9】刪除sure后of
【10】where改為that/which
【1】At改為On 考查介詞。
【3】send改為sending 考查固定搭配。短語(yǔ)keep doing sth不停地做某事;
【5】it改為them 考查代詞。本句中代詞them指代前一句中提到的pancakes,因?yàn)閜ancakes是復(fù)數(shù)形式,所以使用them代替,it指代單數(shù)可數(shù)名詞或不可數(shù)名詞。
【6】and改為but 考查連詞。
根據(jù)第一段第二句At an Saturday night...
動(dòng)詞短語(yǔ)make sure后面直接加that引導(dǎo)的賓語(yǔ)從句,而make sure of后面要接名詞或名詞短語(yǔ)做賓語(yǔ)。本句后面使用了賓語(yǔ)從句that these....,所以前面使用make sure。
【10】where改為that/which 考查定語(yǔ)從句。本題定語(yǔ)從句的先行詞是a restaurant,關(guān)系代詞which/that指代先行詞在句中做主語(yǔ),關(guān)系副詞where在定語(yǔ)從句中做狀語(yǔ),不能做主語(yǔ)。

Laws that would have ensured pupils from five to sixteen received a full financial education got lost in the “wash up". An application is calling on the next government to bring it back.
At school the children are taught to add up and subtract(減法) but, extraordinarily, are not routinely shown how to open a bank account-let alone how to manage their finances in an increasingly complex and demanding world.
Today the parenting website Mumsnet and the consumer campaigner Martin Lewis have joined forces to launch an online application to make financial education a compulsory element of the school curriculum in England. Children from five to sixteen should be taught about everything from pocket money to pensions, they say. And that was exactly the plan preserved in the children, schools and families bill that was shelved by the government in the so-called ¨wash-up" earlier this month-the rush to legislation before parliament was dismissed. Consumer and parent groups believe financial education has always been one of the most frustrating omissions of the curriculum.
As the Personal Finance Education Group (Pfeg) points out, the good habits of young children do not last long. Over 75% of seven to ll-year-olds are savers but by the time they get t0 17, over half of them are in debt to family and friends. By this age, 26% see a credit or overdraft(透支)as a way of extending their spending power. Pfeg predicts that these young people will “find it much harder to avoid the serious unexpected dangers that have been fallen many of
The UK has been in the worst financial recession(衰退)for generations. It does seem odd that-unless parents step in-young people are left in the dark until they are cruelly introduced to the world of debt when they turn up at university. In a recent poll of over 8,000 people, 97% supported financial education in schools, while 3% said it was a job for parents.
【1】The passage is mainly about
A. how to manage school lessons
B. how to deal with the financial crisis
C. teaching young people about money
D. teaching students how to study effectively
【2】It can be inferred from the first two paragraphs that
A. the author complains about the school education
B. pupils should not be taught to add up and subtract
C. students have been taught to manage their finances
D. laws on financial education have been effectively carried out
【3】The website and the consumer campaigner joined to
A. instruct the pupils to donate their pocket money
B. promote the connection of schools and families
C. ask the government to dismiss the parliament
D. appeal for the curriculum of financial education

To whom it may concern,
My husband Jim and I got married in 1965. For the first ten years of our marriage, I was very happy to stay home and raise our three children. Then about four years ago, our youngest child went to school, and I thought I might go back to work.
Jim was very supportive and helped me to make my decision. He started to do all the things I used to do around the house, and said he thought I could be a great success in business.
After several weeks of job hunting, I found my present job, which is working for a small public relation firm. At first, my husband was proud of me and would tell his friends, “My clever little wife can run that company she’s working for.”
But, as his joking words were becoming reality, Jim stopped talking to me about my job. I have received several promotions and pay increases, and I am now making more money than he is. I can buy my own clothes and a new car. Because of our combined incomes, Jim can do things that we had always dreamed of doing, but we don’t do these things because he is unhappy.
We fought about little things, and Jim is very critical of me in front of our friends. For the first time in our marriage, I think there is a possibility that our marriage may come to an end.
I love Jim very much, and I don’t want him to feel inferior(較差的), but I also love my job. I think I can be a good wife and a working woman, but I don’t know how. Can you give me some advice? Will I have to choose one or the other or can I keep both my husband and my new career?
Please help.
Yours,
Mary

The freezing Northeast hasn’t been a terribly fun place to spend time this winter, so when the chance came for a weekend to Sarasota, Florida, my bags were packed before you could say “sunshine”. I left for the land of warmth and vitamin C(維生素C), thinking of beaches and orange trees. When we touched down to blue skies and warm air, I sent up a small prayer of gratefulness. Swimming pools, wine tasting, and pink sunsets(at normal evening hours, not 4 in the afternoon) filled the weekend, but the best part- particularly to my taste, dulled by months of cold- weather root vegetables- was a 7 a.m. adventure to the Sarasota farmers’ market that proved to be more than worth the early wake-up call.
The market, which was founded in 1979, sets up its tents every Saturday from 7:00 am to 1 p.m, rain or shine, along North Lemon and State streets. Baskets of perfect red strawberries, the red-painted sides of the Java Dawg coffee truck; and most of all, the tomatoes: amazing, large, soft and round red tomatoes.
Disappointed by many a broken, vine-ripened(蔓上成熟的) promise, I’ve refused to buy winter tomatoes for years. No matter how attractive they look in the store, once I get them home they’re unfailingly dry, hard, and tasteless. But I homed in, with uncertainty, on one particular table at the Brown’s Grove Farm’s stand, full of fresh and soft tomatoes the size of my fist. These were the real deal- and at that moment, I realized that the best part of Sarasota
Delighted as I was by the tomatoes in sight, my happiness deepened when I learned that Brown’s Grove Farm is one of the suppliers for Jack Dusty, a newly opened restaurant at the Sarasota Ritz Carlton, where- luckily for me- I was planning to have dinner that very night. Without even seeing the menu, I knew I’d be ordering every tomato on it.

How to Be Happy in Your Life
Newborn babies are the happiest in the world. Unfortunately, as we grow up, worries start working up their way upon our minds. 【1】 However, we can achieve happiness again with just some small changes.
Make a choice. Happiness is a matter of choice. A person who knows how to be happy will always be happy, no matter what situation we put him into. On the other hand, a person who always finds faults with everyone and everything around him cannot be happy, no matter how hard he tries.
Laugh a lot. When we smile or laugh, the muscles in our face excite the brain to produce “happy chemicals”. These chemicals make us feel happy. 【2】 Laugh at ourselves, laugh at our problems, laugh at our little worries and then see what difference it makes to our life.
【3】 Being angry with others at their mistakes will earn us nothing. Instead it will make us even more unhappy. Just letting go of others’ mistakes every once in a while helps us to be happy.
Live out of the past. Often, the dark shadows from our past ruin every single second of our life and turn it into a bad memory. 【4】
Learn to give. Giving is a satisfying experience and the joy of giving cannot be expressed in words. One who gives all his life ends up leading a happier life than the one who concentrates only on receiving.
One must understand that happiness is a state ofmind. 【5】 Thus, the answer to the question “how to be happy in life” only lies within us.
A. Forget others’ mistakes.
B. Sounds silly, but it does work.
C. Finally, we forget what happiness is.
D. So, find humor in everything around us.
E. Start with little things and work up to bigger ones.
F. Nothing in the world can make us happy or unhappy, unless we allow it.
G. Let go of all bad memories preventing us from leading a happy life at present.
