You’re shopping for a high-priced product, but have limited money. How to make the best use of your money? Here are some steps you can take to become a smart shopper.
Step 1. Before buying a high-cost product, think about:
·why you are buying the product
·how often and when you will use the product
·what the main use of the product is
·why you need this product now, not later
Step 2. To choose the best product, you need to research and find out:
·what companies make the product
·the differences in each company’s product
·what others say about the product
It can be very helpful to know what other people say about a product you want to buy. Product reviews often describe problems. Reviews also tell how people use the product. List product information so that you can refer to it before you decide to buy
Step 3. To find the best price for the product you want to buy, you need to compare:
·prices of the product
·brand(商標(biāo)) names and store names
·places to buy your product (in stores, online, etc.)
·product labels(標(biāo)簽) and information
Step 4. As you get ready to buy, search your local newspaper and the Internet for special offers. Many sales are offered around holidays or at the end of a season. Wait to see if there will be a holiday or end-of-season sale before you buy. Check to see if you can get a lower price for the product you want to buy.
These steps will help you become a smart shopper. If you follow them, you should get the best deal. Remember, the more you know, the less someone can take advantage of you.
60. This is a piece of advice for those who want to buy________.
A. advertised goods                         B. goods on sale

61. Why should you go through related product reviews before shopping?
A. To decide where to buy the product.
B. To find out why you need the product.
C. To find shops offering best price for the product.

“I started going to clubs when I was nineteen. My friends went and they told me that I’d love it. They were right.” –Lara
Lara is a twenty-one-year old student who loves dancing. “At the moment, my favorite kind of music is acid jazz. I’d love to go to a Fatboy Slim or Ken Ishii gig. They’re so cool,” says Lara. Fatboy Slim and Ken Ishii are not pop stars—they are famous DJs. Being a DJ these days means more than playing records at a nightclub. DJs like Fatboy Slim have also produced a lot of successful CDs of their own music.
Nightclubs have been popular since the seventies but today’s clubs are different. They don’t usually open until at least 11 pm, and people often stay until 7 or 8 o’clock the next morning. Some clubbers will keep on dancing until 12 o’clock in the morning.
Why has dance music become so popular? Some people believe that clubs give young people what the hippies found in the sixties. They have somewhere to meet people just like them. Many clubbers say that dance music helps them to escape from their problems. They feel they are part of a big happy family. But most people just love to dance.

Recently I gave my adult students homework. It was “go to someone you love and tell them you love them.” It has to be someone you have never said those words to before or at least haven’t shared those words with for a long time.
It sounds like very tough homework since most of the men were over 35 and were raised in the generation of men that were taught expressing emotions is not “macho(陽(yáng)剛之氣).” Showing feelings or crying was just not done. So this was very threatening homework for some.
At the beginning of our next class, I asked if someone wanted to share what happened when they told someone they loved them. I fully expected one of the women to volunteer, as was usually the case, but on this evening one of the men raised his hand, quite moved and a bit shaken.
As he unfolded out of his chair (all 1.85 meters of him), he began by saying, “Dennis, I was quite angry with you last week when you gave us this homework . Why were you to tell me to do something that personal?”
“But as I began driving home my conscience(良心)started telling me that I knew exactly who I needed to say ‘I love you’ to.”
“Five years ago, my father and I had a severe disagreement and really never settled it since then. We avoided seeing each other unless we absolutely had to at Christmas or other family gatherings. But even then, we hardly spoke to each other.”
“So last Tuesday by the time I got home I had convinced myself I was going to tell my father I loved him. It’s strange, but just making that decision seemed to lift a heavy load off my chest.”
56.The homework is threatening for some students because         .
A. they are middle-aged people     B. they are not macho enough
C. they were taught to hide their emotions   D. they didn’t know how to show feelings
57.From the passage we know that________.
A. the adult students have classes in the day time only

58.The underlined phrase “unfolded out of his chair” in Para 4 is closest in meaning to_______.
A. stood on his chair straight B. sat quietly in the chair
C. bent himself over his chair       D. raised himself slowly from the chair
59.What does the man imply by saying the underlined sentence in the last paragraph?
A. He felt it too strange to say “I love you” to his father.
B. He felt relaxed just thinking of saying “I love you” to his father.
C. He felt very relaxed after saying “I love you” to his father.
D. He had to lift a heavy load off his chest before saying “I love you”.

This week in our Foreign Student Series,we talk about getting an American education online.A student named Hendra has written to us from Indonesia asking about a good online university.Finding the right online program requires research.Talking to advisers and recruiters(招募者)can help.Keep in mind, though, that they might have a financial interest to direct you to certain programs.
The Council on Higher Education Accreditation(CHEA)recognizes a group in Washington,D.C.,to accredit(授權(quán))schools that offer distance learning. One hundred and ten programs in the United States and six other countries are accredited by the Distance Education and Training Council.
We asked the executive director,Michael Lambert, for advice on choosing a distance learning program. He says the first thing is to go on the CHEA Web site to find if a school is accredited. The address is c-h-e-a dot o-r-g.Next,make sure the school offers what you need.Do you need a degree,or will a certificate or license be enough?
Another consideration is cost.Often the published price does not include all the costs --like books.Technology requirements can also add to the costs. Will you need to get new software or a high-speed Internet connection or even a new computer to take the classes you want?
Also, consider the level of interaction that an online program offers. You might never meet the teacher or other students in person.
Finally, and this is our own advice, find out what others say on the Internet for comments or news stories about schools that interest you.Just remember that what people say is not always fair or true.
56.This passage is probably from ________.

A.The cost for books and technology requirements.
B.The cost for books and a new computer.
C.The cost for new software and a high-speed Internet connection.
