【題目】Swimming at the beach or in a backyard pool are well-known Australian summer activities. But while it is usually a fun time of year, there is a serious side to summer that you might not know about.

1There are lots of trees and dry grass in remote areas that can easily catch fire. Even throwing a burning cigarette out of a car window can cause a lot of damage. 2

In February, there were more than 80 different bushfires burning at the same time in New South Wales, a southeastern state of Australia. The Guardian newspaper reported that 42 homes were burned to the ground because of these fires. 3They are huge farms. Many Australian properties(房產(chǎn))are larger than 1,000 square kilometers, while the biggest is more than 20,000 square kilometers—even larger than Beijing.

Every household prepares for bushfire season and protects their property. But sometimes the fires are too big and people have to move to safety.

4 It was so hot in February that thousands of bats died from the heat. People can get sick if they stay outside for too long or don’t drink enough water. The heat can also cause power problems for homes and businesses.

5But it is worth remembering that the heat can cause lots of problems, too.

A. The Australian summer is enjoyable.

B. The hot weather also causes other problems.

C. These homes are not like Chinese ones.

D. Thanks to climate change, this year’s situation is even worse.

E. That is why summer is also known as ‘bushfire season” in Australia.

F. The dry season lasts about six months, usually between April and October.

G. The extreme heat, which can go above 40°C in some cities, is very dangerous.

I was sitting at my favorite table in a restaurant on last Sunday waiting for the food I had ordered to arrive. I suddenly found that Lin Ling, one of my classmate, worked as a waitress there. Honest speaking, it was great surprise for me to find her working there. As far as I know, she's from a richer family. What made her work there? I walked up to her but asked her the reason. When asking, she said, “I just want to earn some pocket money so that we can help some children in poor areas go back to school.” How a good girl! I should learn from her.

Studying at an university in the UK have been a good experience for me. When I first arrived, I find life very hard as I didn’t know anybody here, but I soon got to know other Chinese student. Later I became accustomed to talk with people from various cultures. Besides, I made fewer friends.

During my study, I chose to live in with my classmates in the dormitory. I think it’s better than living in a British family because I can meet people from different countries easy. The courses here are excellent. I enjoy the way the teachers give lessons. We encouraged to think for ourselves, which is quite different from that I have experienced before.

【題目】根據(jù)短文理解,選擇正確答案。
Researchers at the University of Kansas say that people can accurately judge 90 percent of a stranger's personality simply by looking at the person's shoes. “Shoes convey useful information about their wearers”, the authors wrote in the new study published in the Journal of Research in Personality.
Lead researcher Omri Gillath said the judgments were based on the style, cost, color and condition of someone's shoes. In the study, 63 University of Kansas researchers looked at pictures showing 208 different pairs of shoes worn by the study's participants. Volunteers in the study were photographed in their most commonly worn shoes, and then filled out a personality questionnaire.
Some of the results were expected: People with higher incomes most commonly wore expensive shoes, and flashier shoes were typically worn by outgoing people. However, some of the more specific results are strange enough. For example, “practical and functional 'shoes were generally worn by more “pleasant" people, while ankle boots were more linked with “aggressive” personalities. The strangest of all may be that those who wore “uncomfortable looking” shoes tend to have “calm” personalities. And if you have several pairs of new shoes or take extreme care of them, you may suffer from “attachment anxiety", spending lots of time worrying about what other people think of your appearance. There was even a political calculation in the mix with more liberal (主張變革的) types wearing “shabbier and less expensive” shoes.
The researchers noted that some people will choose shoe styles to mask their actual personalities, but researchers noted that volunteers were also likely to be unaware that their footwear choices were showing the deep side of their personalities.
(1)What does this text mainly tell us?
A.Shoes Call hide people's real personalities.
B.Shoes convey false information about the wearer.
C.People's personalities call be judged by their shoes.
D.People know little about their personalities.
(2)Which of the results is beyond people's expectation?
A.Wealthy people often wear expensive shoes.
B.Pleasant people like wearing uncomfortable shoes.
C.Aggressive people are likely to weal" ankle boots.
D.Flashier shoes are typically worn by outgoing people.
(3)People suffering from “attachment anxiety” tend to
A.wear strange shoes
B.worry about their appearance
C.have a calm character
D.become a political leader
(4)The author wrote the text in order to
A.inform us of a new study
B.introduce a research method

D.describe different personalities
