We've all heard about the power of our attitude, and it's our attitude that determines how much we succeed in life.
All the things that you have been through, all the people you have met and interacted with can have an impact on your attitude. If you think that all these factors have molded you into a person with a poor attitude towards life, there is no need to worry.
1).Identify and understand what you want to change.
The first step towards change is clearly understanding what needs to be changed. When it comes to changing your attitude, you need to do an honest and in-depth self-evaluation so you could point out exactly which of your traits need to be improved or totally changed.
2).
Find someone who has the kind of attitude that you want to have, and let his or her life give you inspiration and encouragement to move beyond your temporary failures in your journey towards becoming a better person.
3). Choose the right company.
As they say, “Bad company corrupts good character.” You don't expect yourself to be able to change if you go on surrounding yourself with people who possess all the negative traits that you want to change. Consider befriending new people, especially those who are optimistic and have a healthy attitude towards life.
4). Believe that you are able to change.
If you don't believe in yourself or believe that you or your life can change, it just won't happen—you will either never start, or give up quickly that you won't have even given yourself the opportunity to succeed.
A. Your effort to change will be easier with these people as friends.
B. Setting clear goals is the key to success in any endeavor.
C. The greatest obstacle is our inability to trust in what we can do.
D. Look for a role model.
E. Think about how your attitude change will affect your life.
F. There is always an opportunity for change.
G. Fix your mind on the things that would come as a result of your attitude change.

【答案】F;B;D;A;C
根據(jù)上文“If you think that all these factors have molded you into a person with a poor attitude towards life, there is no need to worry.”,如果你認(rèn)為這些所有的因素都讓你對(duì)生活有了消極態(tài)度,不必?fù)?dān)心,結(jié)合下文講述改變態(tài)度的方法可推斷,總有機(jī)會(huì)改變的。故選F。
根據(jù)段落標(biāo)題“Identify and understand what you want to change.”和上文“The first step towards change is clearly understanding what needs to be changed.”可知,本段講述確定并了解你想要改變的事,改變的第一步是清楚了解什么需要改變,因此推斷B項(xiàng):Setting clear goals is the key to success in any endeavor.“設(shè)立明確的目標(biāo)是所有努力的關(guān)鍵”符合語境。
根據(jù)上文“Consider befriending new people, especially those who are optimistic and have a healthy attitude towards life.” 故選A。
根據(jù)下文“ If you don't believe in yourself or believe that you or your life can change, it just won't happen—you will either never start, or give up quickly that you won't have even given yourself the opportunity to succeed.”

It is reported gender (性別) differences exist mainly in terms sense of space and language ability. But that doesn't necessarily mean all women have a poor sense of space or all women are good at languages. Women can become excellent drivers as long as they have the courage to challenge (tradition) gender roles and believe in themselves.
In London, only one in ten bus drivers is a woman. Yet, according to the results of recent research, women are better at (deal) with problem passengers, have fewer accidents and are quicker at learning to drive buses than men.

In the village that I grew up , everyone knew an old man, who lived a simply life and spent all his time painting. The villagers used to admiring his works and he often gave his paintings to his friends. Whenever he was offered money, he would not take them. He said he painted for a pleasure. He once gave one of his painting to my father, who actually wasn't interested in art. Years later I found it in our old house. By that time the old man has died and people started to recognize his paintings as great works of art, which was worth lots of money. An art gallery made me an offer of $5,000 for this painting and I nearly sold it, so then I decided not to. It always reminds me my childhood and of the old man who didn't really want to make money by painting.

If you’re ever reading a book or watching a movie and get thedistinctfeeling you’ve come across the story before — or even better, can predict exactly what's going to happen next — there could be a good reason for that.

Researchers from the Computational Story Laboratory at the University of Vermont studied the complete text of some 1,737 fiction worksavailableon Project Gutenberg, an online collection of more than 50,000 digital books in the publicarea. They discovered that English literature consists of just six kinds of emotional arcs (情感弧線) that make up nearly all of the most well-known stories. By analysing thesentiment(情感) of language used in these texts, the researchers were able toshowthe emotional ups and downs for the stories as a whole. They discovered that negativewords like “poverty”, “dead”, and “punishment” dragged the emotion down, whilepositiveterms like “l(fā)ove”, “peace”, and “friend” brought it up.

According to the researchers, those six core (核心的) emotional arcs are:

“Rags to riches”(An ongoing emotional rise)

“Tragedy, or riches to rags”(An ongoing emotional fall)

“Man in a hole”(A fall followed by a rise)

“Icarus”(A rise followed by a fall)

“Cinderella”(Rise–fall–rise)

“Oedipus” (Fall–rise–fall)

Interestingly, based on download statistics from Project Gutenberg, the researchers say the most popular stories are ones that use more complex emotional arcs, with the “Cinderella” and “Oedipus” arcs registering the most downloads. Also popular are works that combine these core arcs together in new ways within one story, such as two“Man in a hole” arcs stuck together, or the “Cinderella” arc coupled with a tragic ending.

A. beginnings B. endings

C. characters D. emotional arcs

2How did researchers carry out their study?

A. By conducting surveys among readers.

B. By reading books borrowed from libraries.

C. By analysing works from an online collection.

D. By interviewing authors of the well-known stories.

3Which set of works may drag emotion down?

A. Hope, fortune and riches.

B. Disease, murder and war.

C. Smile, health and beauty.

D. Cold, earthquake and spring.

4According to the last paragraph, which kind of works are most popular among readers?

A. Works with an ongoing emotional rise.

B. Works with an ongoing emotional fall.

C. Works with a rise followed by a fall.

D. Works with more than one rise and fall.
