5.If you are a high school senior graduating and looking to enter college in 2006,you will take the new exam.
The biggest change to the SAT (美國(guó)學(xué)術(shù)能力傾向測(cè)驗(yàn)) will be the introduction of a new writing section.The writing section will consist of two parts:an essay and a multiple-choice section.Students will be given 25minutes to respond to a prompt (提示) and construct a well-organized essay that effectively deals with the task.The essay question may require students to complete a statement,to react to a quote,or to agree or disagree with a point of view.In any case,a good essay will support the chosen position with specific reasons and examples from literature,history,art,science,current affairs,or even a student's own experiences.
Essays will be scored based on the procedures for the current SAT II:Writing Test.Essays will be graded by two independent readers on a scale of 1~6,and their two scores will be combined to form an essay subscore that ranges from 2to 12.Should the readers'scores vary by more than 2points,a third reader will score the essay.The readers will be high school teachers and college professors who teach composition.To ensure that essays will be scored in a timely manner,they will be scanned and made available to readers on the Internet for grading purpose.
The writing section will also include multiple-choice grammar and usage questions.Some of these questions will call upon students to improve given sentences and paragraphs.Others will present students with sentences and require them to identify mistakes in diction (措辭),grammar,sentence construction,subject-verb agreement,proper word usage.
The highest possible score on the new writing section will be 800.Scores on the essay and multiple-choice section will be combined to produce a single score.A writing subscore will also be assigned.The highest possible scores on the Critical Reading and Math sections will remain 800each,making 2,400a perfect score on the new SAT.

答案是A.細(xì)節(jié)理解題.根據(jù)文章第二段第二句"The writing section will consist of two parts:an essay and a multiple-choice section."可得知,美國(guó)改革后的SAT考試的寫(xiě)作部分包括兩部分,即短文寫(xiě)作和多項(xiàng)選擇題,故選A.
73.答案是D.主旨大意題;第三段第一句"Essays will be scored based on the procedures for the current SAT II:Writing Test.(短文批閱將以現(xiàn)行的SAT的第二部分的程序?yàn)榛A(chǔ))"為本段的主題句,然后具體介紹了短文寫(xiě)作試卷的閱卷程序,如為了提高評(píng)分信度而采取的兩人閱卷并在兩人始分懸殊超過(guò)兩檔時(shí)引入第三人判卷,以及利用網(wǎng)上閱卷技術(shù)等.A項(xiàng)不全面,僅是本段的一個(gè)細(xì)節(jié);本段不是旨在闡述高科技和測(cè)試之間的關(guān)系,故B項(xiàng)也不對(duì);文章并沒(méi)有提及閱卷人在閱卷過(guò)程中有舞弊等違規(guī)行為,故C項(xiàng)排除;
74.答案是B.細(xì)節(jié)理解題;作者在文章中沒(méi)有就多項(xiàng)選擇題發(fā)表自己的評(píng)論,故選B.其他各項(xiàng)在文章中都可找到依據(jù):A項(xiàng)的依據(jù)在文章的第一段;C項(xiàng)的依據(jù)是文章的第二段的最后一句;D項(xiàng)的依據(jù)在文章最后一段,最后一句告訴我們SAT總分的2400,其中the writing section、the Critical Reading 和Math sections 個(gè)800分.
75.答案是D.主旨大意題;文章第一段引出了主題--the new exam;然后圍繞the new exam變化了的部分即美國(guó)新的SAT考試的寫(xiě)作部分的變化展開(kāi)說(shuō)明,故選D;注意選擇標(biāo)題的原則是標(biāo)題應(yīng)該恰當(dāng)?shù)啬依ㄎ恼轮饕獌?nèi)容.

13.Temperature is measured by means of a thermometer (溫度計(jì)).One general form of thermometer depends upon the fact that most solids and liquids expand as their temperature rises.There are one or two exceptions.There is,for instance,a kind of steel called invar (from"invariable") which does not change its dimensions as temperature changes; it is valuable for making pendulums (鐘擺),since,if the length of a pendulum changes,its time of vibration changes.It is also used for making very accurate measuring scales.In both cases,then,changes of atmospheric temperature have no effect if invar is used.
Another exception is that very odd liquid,water,which has many strange properties (特性).As water gets colder it contracts (收縮),which is ordinary behavior,until it reaches the temperature of 30℃.a(chǎn)bove freezing point.After that,as it gets colder,it expands.This is fortunate---for considering the freezing of a pond.As the water on top gets colder,it shrinks; and so,volume for volume,it becomes heavier and sinks.This goes on until all the pond is at 30℃,but after that,as the water becomes colder it expands.Therefore the colder water stays on top and freezes,covering the pond with ice.If the water went on contracting down to the freezing point,the pond would become a solid block of ice in the end.This would not worry people who live in hot climates,but it would be very serious for those who live in cold climates,especially for those who want to break the ice and catch fish which live in the cold water beneath.

56.Invar is valuable for making pendulums becauseA.
A.it can hardly change its shape or size as temperature changes.
B.it will change its dimensions without the change of temperature.
C.its time of vibration doesn't change if its length changes.
D.its time of vibration does not change if its length changes.
57.As water gets colder after reaching the temperature of 30℃.it willc.
A.contract       B.shrink      C.expand     D.freeze
58.Which of the following statements is true,according to this passage?D
A.Only invar can be used to make a thermometer.
B.Only water can be used to make a thermometer.
C.Both invar and water can be used to make a thermometer.
D.Neither invar nor water can be used to make a thermometer.

20.Though"nanometer"(納米) is now a fashionable term all over the world,few people know exactly what it is.It has become a new favorite of manufacturers and sellers in recent years.Many"high-tech"products bearing the name"nano"have entered the market,bringing more mysterious feeling to surprised consumers.
Nanometer is a very small length unit of measure,and is very small.One millimeter is 1000micrometers,and one micrometer is 1000nanometers.That is,one nanometer is one billionth of a meter.Nano materials are solid materials composed of particles(粒子) or crystallites(晶體) of less than 100nanometer in size.Then,is a cup made of nano material really any different from an ordinary cup in function as far as how it works?
Are nano cups really so wonderful?A reporter went to the Institute of Nanomedicine, which is the first such institute of such a sort in the world and the only one in China, specializing in researching the investigation of the application of nano technology into medicine.
A water molecule(分子) is composed of 2hydrogen atoms and 1oxygen atom.It can be changed only by special working skillfully of the atoms.The material making up the cup can have nanometer particles.But it cannot change the chemical and physical propertiesof the water contained in it.The water in the cup is still water.When people drink it,it will produce no special effect on human body.
Professor Ji who worked in the Instiute of Nanomedicine told the reporter,so far,the investigation of nano materials is still limited in the laboratory.No commercial micro products can be produced yet.With the present level of science and technology,the time of everyday goods made of nanometer materials is still years away.
The products labeled with nano marks in the market now are only traditional products coated with a thin layer of nanometer material, which makes them more abrasion resistant(耐磨),much easier to be cleaned,or oil resisting or moth proof(防蛀).
Professor Ji explained that nano cup is a real cup.It can also be included in the list of nano products in a certain sense.But the nano cup has not changed its property and function as a cup.It is not a magical medicine for curing and health care.

10.Some plants get so hungry they eat flies, and even small frogs. What's more amazing is that these plants occur naturally (in special environments) in every state. In fact, they're found on every continent except Antarctica.
You've probably seen a Venus'flytrap--a small plant, which grows 6 to 8 inches tall in a container. At the end of its stalks (莖) are leaves that act like traps (陷阱).Inside each trap is a lining of tiny hairs. When an insect lands on them, the traps suddenly shut.Over the course of a week or so,the plant feeds on its catch.
The Venus'flytrap is just one of more than 500 species of meat-eating plants, says Barry Meyers-Rice,the editor of the International Carnivorous Plant Society's Newsletter. He states although you might have read some science-fiction stories,no meat-eating plant does any danger to humans.
Barry says a plant is meat-eating,only if it does all four of the following:"attract, kill, digest, and absorb"some form of insects.Meat-eating plants look and act like other green plants--well,most of the time.
All green plants make sugar to produce food. What makes meat-eating plants different is their special leaves, which need insects for one reason:nitrogen (氮).Nitrogen is a nutrient that they can't obtain any other way. Why?
Almost all green plants on our planet get nitrogen from the soil.Meat-eating plants can't.They live in places where nutrients are hard to get from the soil because of its acidity. So they've come to rely on getting nitrogen from insects and small animals. In fact,nutrient-rich soft is poisonous to meat-eating plants.Never fertilize (施肥) them! But don't worry, either,if they never seem to catch any insects. They can survive, but they'll grow very slowly.
64.According to the passage,a Venus'flytrapC.
A.is a small plant which grows in a container
B.is a kind of plant which gets hungry easily
C.can trap and feed on some form of insects
D.can only grow 6-8 inches tall
65.From the passage,we can infer thatC.
A.meat-eating plants are found nowhere else except Antarctica
B.a(chǎn)ll green plants get nitrogen from the soil
C.meat-eating plants endanger humans in science-fiction stories
D.the nutrient-poor soil is beneficial to meat-eating plants
66.Meat-eating plants grow very slowly,B.
A.so you'd better fertilize them
B.probably because the supply of nitrogen is cut off
C.simply because they can't absorb nitrogen from the soil
D.a(chǎn)nd then they will die slowly
67.Which of the following is true?C
A.Meat-eating plants look and act like other green plants.
B.It's hard to get nutrients in the soil when acidity is high.
C.The Venus'flytrap eats flies to get nutrient from them.
D.Green plants make sugar at night.

17.Beijing had its biggest snowfall since 1951.Britain is suffering through its longest cold snap (寒潮) since 1981.And freezing weather is hitting the Deep South, including Florida's orange groves and beaches.
    Whatever happened to global warming?
Such weather doesn't seem to fit with warnings from scientists that the Earth is warming because of greenhouse gases. But experts say the cold snap doesn't contradict global warming at all-it's just a temporary phenomenon in the long-term heating trend."It's part of natural variability,"said Gerald Meehl,a senior scientist. With global warming,he said,"we'll still have record cold temperatures. We'll just have fewer of them."
Scientists say man-made climate change does have the potential to cause more frequent and more severe weather extremes. But experts did not connect the current cold snap to climate change.
    So what is going on?
"We basically have seen just a big outbreak of Arctic air over populated areas of the Northern Hemisphere",Arndt said.
In the atmosphere, large rivers of air travel roughly west to east around the globe between the Arctic and the tropics. This air flow acts like a fence to keep Arctic air restricted. But recently, this air flow has become bent into a zigzag (之字形) pattern, wandering north and south. If you live in a place where it brings air up from the south, you get warm weather. In fact, record highs were reported this week in Washington state and Alaska.
But in the eastern United States, like some other unlucky parts of the globe,Arctic air is coming from the north. And that's how you get a temperature of 3 degrees in Beijing,a reading of minus-42 in mainland Norway, and 18 inches of snow in parts of Britain. The zigzag pattern arises naturally from time to time, but it is not clear why it's so strong right now.
71.What is the best title of the text?D
A.Freezing weather is hitting the Deep South.
B.We'll still have record cold temperatures.
C.The air flow has become a zigzag pattern.
D.Cold snap doesn't contradict global warming.
72.With global warming,we willA.
A.a(chǎn)lso meet with severe cold snap
B.have more hot temperatures forever
C.never experience cold temperatures
D.have more cold temperatures
73.According to experts, the current cold snapB.
A.suggests that the climate has changed greatly
B.is not related to the climate change
C.shows that the climate will turn cold
D.is affected by global warming
74.Beijing had its biggest snowfall since 1951 because ofC.
A.a(chǎn) fence from the Arctic
B.a(chǎn) cooling trend in climate
C.a(chǎn) big outbreak of Arctic air
D.its large population
75.We can conclude thatA.
A.not all the parts of the Northern Hemisphere are cold in face of the cold snap
B.the zigzag pattern arises naturally accidentally
C.Beijing will get cold weather next year
D.Washington state and Alaska will not face cold weather next year.
