    Russian dances: The famous“Little White

Birth”Dance Troupe will travel from Russia to

Present performances in Beijing.

The troupe, founded in 1948, is famous for

their combination of Russian folk dances and

classical dancing art.

It has been invited by the Beijing Foreign Culture Exchange Co to give four performances in Beijing.

EXHIBITIONS

Kite show: All together 81 kites collected by the China National Art Museum is on show in the Yanhuang Art Museum.

Kong Xiangze, an expert on Chinese kites, published a book on kites, explaining the origins of the Kite—making process. The exhibited kites are made in a traditional Chinese style.

 CONCERTS

Folk music: A concert of classics of Chinese folk music will greet audiences on the first day of the Year of Snake at the Beijing Concert Hall.

The China Song and Dance Ensemble will perform dozens of traditional instrumental pieces, such as“Full of Joy,”“Colourful Cloud Chasing the Moon,”and “Spring Festival Suite.”

EVENTS

Flower festival：The Beijing Botanical Garden is bringing people a blooming festival with the beautiful flowers in its tropical（熱帶）plants greenhouse.

The garden has introduced nearly 80 kinds of flowers from abroad for the exhibition.

There is also an exhibition of potted narcissus（水仙）landscapes（風(fēng)景）.More than 300 mini landscapes involving imported narcissus will be displayed. People can get a preview of  the show by visiting www. beijingbd. com, the garden’s website.

Chen Yurong, 55, an average woman in Wuhan, Hubei province, who was diagnosed with a fatty liver (肝), walked 10 kilometers a day for seven months, despite wind an rain, so she could donate part of a healthy liver to her son. After wearing out four pairs of shoes and losing eight kilograms, her fatty liver condition disappeared. One doctor called it a “miracle” (奇跡).


 
Hear 31 – year – old son, Ye Haibin suffered from severe Wilson’s disease, a rare disorder that causes body to keep copper. Doctors said only a liver transplant could lengthen his life. Despite her age and the knowledge that about one in 1,000 liver donators die after the transplant, Chen said she did not hesitate to donate part of her liver.

“In order to give my young granddaughter a complete family, I’d
like to do everything to save my son, including doing exercise and
eating less”, Chen said.
The transplant was performed on November 3,2009. The surgery
lasted more than 14 hours and saved her son from life threatening
liver disease. State – owned CCTV broadcast the transplant live and
she has been widely praised in China.
However, the 55 – year – old mother said she never expected
such attention, which did bring her hope and help from many others
– even stingers. Despite giving up part of her liver, Chen, like before,
gets up at 6 am to help her son wash and take his medicine. Moved
by Chen Yurong’s love for her son and her determination and effort, the hospital paid the entire medical bill, which would have added up to 600,000 yuan (US$ 85,715).
The great mother, Chen Yurong was honored as the most touching figure in China for 2009.

I was helping in my son’s classroom when I spotted a poster that reads, “Sticks and stones

Teachers are such an important part of a child’s life. A teacher’s support determines how safe a child feels in school. I try to be a good father. But compared with Dick Hoyt, I suck.
Eighty-five times he’s pushed his disabled son, Rick, 26.2 miles in marathons. Eight times he’s not only pushed him 26.2 miles in a wheelchair but also towed (拉著) him 2.4 miles in a dinghy (小游艇) while swimming and pedaled (蹬車) him 112 miles — all in the same day. And what has Rick done for his father? Not much — except save his life.
This love story began in Winchester, Mass., 43 years ago, when Rick was strangled (使窒息) by the umbilical cord (臍帶) during birth, leaving him brain-damaged and unable to control his limbs.
When Rick was 11 the Hoyts took him to hospital and asked if there was anything to help the boy communicate. “No way,’’ Dick was told. “There’s nothing going on in his brain.’’
“Tell him a joke,’’ Dick countered (反駁). They did. Rick laughed. It turns out that a lot was going on in his brain. Equipped with a computer that allowed him to control the cursor (光標(biāo)) by touching a switch with the side of his head, Rick was finally able to communicate.
And after a high school classmate was paralyzed (癱瘓) in an accident and the school organized a charity run for him, Rick pecked out (啄出), “Dad, I want to do that.’’
How was Dick, who had never run more than a mile at a time, going to push his son five miles? Still, he tried.
That day changed Rick’s life. “Dad,’’ he typed, “when we were running, it felt like I wasn’t disabled any more!’’
And that sentence changed Dick’s life. He became obsessed(迷戀) with giving Rick that feeling as often as he could. He got into such hard-belly shape that he and Rick were ready to try the 1979 Boston Marathon. In 1983 they ran another marathon so fast they made the qualifying time for Boston the following year.
Then somebody said, “Hey, Dick, why not a triathlon (三項(xiàng)全能運(yùn)動(dòng))?’’
Now they’ve done 212 triathlons, including four 15-hour Ironmans in Hawaii.
This year, at ages 65 and 43, Dick and Rick finished their 24th Boston Marathon, in 5,083rd place out of more than 20,000 starters. Their best time? Two hours, 40 minutes in 1992 — only 35 minutes off the world record.
“No question about it,’’ Rick types. “My dad is the Father of the Century.’’
And Dick got something else out of all this too. Two years ago he had a heart attack during a race. Doctors found that one of his arteries (動(dòng)脈) was 95% blocked. “If you hadn’t been in such great shape,’’ one doctor told him, “you probably would have died 15 years ago.’’ So, in a way, Dick and Rick saved each other’s life.
