【題目】閱讀下面的短文,然后按照要求寫一篇150詞左右的英文短文。
Every morning, on his way to work, Mike passed an old man who was always at the same place with a cup in his hand hoping to get a bit of change from those who passed by. For most people, this person was someone to be ignored as if he didn’t exist, someone who they didn’t want to be bothered with. However, Mike would always say good morning to him and wish him a nice day and sometimes would drop a dollar or two in his cup. This behavior went on for several years until one day before retirement.
He told the man that he would no longer pass by because it was his last day on the job. The man took his hand and shook it warmly saying that he had always looked forward to seeing Mike not because he dropped a few dollars in his cup. He said he would miss him because he was one of the few people who said hello and bid him good day. The man also said that his warm words always brightened his day and helped him to continue.
We all have the power of words and we often do not recognize that some can be devastating(毀滅性的) while some can be encouraging.

【題目】【原創(chuàng)】Here are some apps (程序)on your phones which can help you think positively or aim at happiness. Examine them, and you can have fun .
Happify is perhaps the most popular positive app available now. By asking some questions about your goals in using the app, it recommends you some tracks.
Each track contains games and activities that guide you to seeing positive aspects of your daily life. It also regularly helps you assess your happiness level, pointing out how you can feel more positive merely by changing your habits. There’s also a community page in the app where you can see inspirational comments by other users and even upload your own .
Happify’s only drawback is that while it’s free to download and use, access to its full range of activities costs $13 a month or $70 a year.
Other apps use a different route to developing positive thinking habits. They simply expose you repeatedly to motivational ideas, quotes and suggestions.
Positive Thinking is a relatively simple attempt at this kind of app. It uses colorful imagery and simple controls, and has a list of motivational quotes and suggestions — everything from “do sports” to “stop thinking ... sit there relaxed.” It’s extremely basic, and there’s not a huge amount of content but you may find it has some good ideas and it’s free.
The app Mood Journal, which costs $2, has a great-looking. Through text-entry controls you can make a diary-style note in the app of when you’re feeling positive, and also add a photo. When you’ve accumulated enough entries, the app presents some analytics in the form of graphs that show your positivity over time. This could help you plan strategies to be more positive. , and also add a photo or a selfie.
If you prefer a more meditative approach to positive thinking, check out Smiling Mind, a free iOS and Android app. You enter data on how you’re feeling, using a number of slide controls that ask if you’re feeling “stormy” or “calm,” for example. Then you listen to a meditation-like voice track that talks you through different programs.

【題目】Scientists have discovered a special biological behavior in dolphins(海豚) that could lead to a treatment for late-onset diabetes(晚發(fā)的糖尿病) in humans. Studies on dolphins found that healthy dolphins switch into a diabetic-like state overnight when they are not feeding, but return to normal when they eat the following morning.
The extraordinary finding has led scientists to suggest that dolphins have “genetic switch” that allows them to imitate diabetes while they are not feeding for a night, without suffering any ill effect.
If researchers can identify a similar genetic pathway in human, they may be able to develop drugs to effectively switch off diabetes. Some 2.2 million people in Britain have type 2 (or late-onset) diabetes, a figure that is expected to reach 4 million by 2025 as a consequence of rising levels of obesity(肥胖).
The tissues of people with type 2 diabetes have become resistant to insulin(胰島素)so they lose the ability to control sugar levels in their blood. The condition can damage the heart, eyes, kidneys(腎臟) and nerves and contribute to 5% of all deaths, according to the World Healthy Organization.
Dolphins appear to imitate diabetes to keep high levels of blood sugar when food is rare. Like humans, dolphins need some sugar in their blood for their brains to function normally. Venn-Watson’s team analyzed 1,000 blood samples(樣本) from 52 dolphins while they didn’t eat anything overnight and fed in the morning. At night time, the dolphins’ metabolism(新陳代謝)changed greatly and showed similar characteristics to that seen in people with type 2 diabetes.
“It is our hope that this discovery can lead to new ways to prevent, treat and maybe even cure diabetes in humans,” said Stephanie Venn-Watson, director of clinical research at the National Marine Foundation in San Diego.
【1】What’s the main idea of the passage?
A. Humans get some idea of treating diabetes from dolphins.
B. Dolphins can switch into a diabetic-like state overnight.
C. Humans can suffer the same disease as dolphins.
D. Dolphins should be fed regularly to avoid diabetes.
【2】The key to applying the finding to curing human diabetes lies in ____________.
A. producing insulin in a larger amount
B. developing drugs from healthy dolphins
C. identifying a similar genetic pathway in human
D. analyzing more blood samples from hungry dolphins
【3】Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the passage?
A. Scientists have found a similar genetic switch in humans.
B. More British people will suffer type 2 diabetes due to obesity.
C. 2.2 million people with type 2 diabetes die in Britain every year.
D. Dolphins imitate diabetes to avoid a high blood sugar level.
【4】What will happen to dolphins if not fed for a night according to Venn-Watson?
A. Their metabolism breaks down.
B. They become resistant to insulin.
C. Their heart and kidneys are damaged.
D. They keep high levels of blood sugar.
