I just came back from Britain last week. I was luckily enough to be one of the students from different country to visit the UK from Feb .16 to 28 . We paid a visit to a good many of places , like London ,Oxford or the Lake District . I learned much about British culture and history in London ,where was my favourite . I also liked Oxford , in which I saw much old buildings. The Lake District was beautiful , but it was pity that it rained heavily when they were there. The most excited thing for me in Britain was that I make a lot of friends there.

My wife and I have always been friendly with the clerks at the local store. I don’t think many people appreciate what a difficult job these clerks have. They work for a little money and I often wonder how they make ends meet.
One of the clerks, Charlie, was always wearing his glasses but he didn’t one day. I asked him about it and he said they’d been out of order and that he couldn’t afford a new pair. His family needed money. It was clear that he was having a difficult time.
We wanted to help him, so we turned to our own eye doctor for help with a plan. We had his secretary contact him, asking him to come in for an eye exam for free. We told the doctor to let him order whatever glasses he wanted and that we would pay for them. Although Charlie questioned what was going on, the doctor just told him that someone had offered the money for his new glasses. When we went in to pay the bill, the doctor told us he was touched by our idea so that he waived the exam fee and only charged us for half the price of the glasses!
It was so wonderful to see Charlie in his new glasses and he enjoyed telling all the regular customers how the gift came about. I’m sure that upon hearing his story, ideas of kindness may have come in the minds of many people.

A. It was very warm and fine.
B. His glasses were missing.

A. Charlie was a young man with skills
B. Charlie knew who paid the money for the new glasses

“BANG!” the door caused a reverberation (回聲). It was just standing there, with father standing on one side, and I on the other side.
We were both in great anger. “Never set foot in this house again!” stormed father. With tears welling up in my eyes, I rushed out of the flat and ran along the street.
The street lights were shining, causing rather sad-feeling. I wandered aimlessly.
A young father who held a child in his arms walked past me. I felt as if I saw my childhood from another space: happy and carefree.
But now … I don’t know whether it is because I have grown up or because dad is getting old. We differ in our ways of thinking. He always put his opinions and codes of behavior on me. Whenever I do something wrong, he never admits it. We are just
like two people coming from two different worlds. It feels like there is an iron door between us that can never be opened.
I wandered the streets, without a destination in mind. My heart was frozen on this hot summer night. As I walked on there were fewer and fewer people on the streets, until I had only the street lights to keep me company. When I finally reached the high-rise apartment block in which I lived ,I saw that the light was still on.
I thought to myself: “Is father waiting for me, or is he still angry with me?”
In fact, it was nothing. Perhaps, dad was throwing away some of his old stamps. Perhaps he thought they were useless. I never had the courage to tell him that I liked collecting stamps. I can’t stand his outrageous(蠻橫的)words: “I can’t throw you away, let alone these old papers?”
All the lights were off except father’s.
Dad was always like this. Maybe he didn’t know how to express himself. After
shouting at me, he never showed any mercy or any moments of regret. After an argument he has the habit of creeping up in my sleep and then tucking me underneath the covers.
This was how he always was.He has been a leader for so long that telling everyone else what to do has become his second nature.
The light was still on. “Am I wrong?” I whispered, maybe… With the key in hand, I was as nervous as I had ever been. At last, I decided to open the door. As soon as I opened the door tears ran down my cheeks. I suddenly realized that the iron door that I had imagined between us did not exist at all. Love—it’s second to none.

B. The sight of the empty street.
C. The sight of light in his own house.
D. The sight of a father with a child in his arms.
3.Why do you think the father often shouts at his son?
A. perhaps the father is getting older and older.
B. perhaps the son has already grown up.
C. perhaps the father has got used to doing that.
D. perhaps they never agree with each other.
4.What conclusion can you come to after reading the passage?

The United States government has decided that food from cloned(克隆) cattle, pigs and goats is safe to eat. The Food and Drug Administration also says it found no risks in meat and milk from cloned animals.
The F.D.A. looked at studies for several years before it announced its decision in a final report this month. The United States Department of Agriculture supported the findings. But it says time is needed to clear the way for marketing meat and milk from clones.
The F.D.A. will not require any product to be registered(注冊(cè)) as coming from clones. A producer would need to label (標(biāo)注) a product “clone-free”. The agency (機(jī)構(gòu)) says that could be misunderstood because the food is not different from other food.
But activists argue that the F.D.A. based its decision on incomplete research into possible risks. The Center for Food Safety criticized the use of studies supplied by cloning companies. Animal rights activists point out that cloning attempts often fail. They say cloning is cruel and can lead to suffering.
Congress (國會(huì)) has been trying to get the F.D.A. to do more studies. But the agency noted that experts in New Zealand and the European Union had come to the same findings about the safety of food from clones. Japan, South Korea and Taiwan say they want to study it further before taking action.
Products from cloning may not be widely used for several years. Clones cost much , which is why they are not widely used for feeding. The Agriculture Department says few clones will ever become food. Their traditionally raised animals would enter the food supply instead.
1.What is the best title for this passage?
A. Is Food from Cloned Animals Safe?
B. A New Clone Policy
C. A Big Danger —Cloned Food
D. Cloned Products —A Terrible Choice
2.All the following are sure of the safety of cloned products EXCEPT _________.
A. New Zealand B. Japan
C. the USA D. the European Union
3.Why are products from cloning not widely used for feeding?
A. Because cloning attempts often fail.
B. Because they are not safe to eat.
C. Because cloning is cruel.
D. Because they are expensive.
4.Where can you probably see the passage?
A. In a novel. B. In a newspaper.
C. In a travel leaflet. D. In a notice on the wall.

Nobody likes an old poop(傻子). Developing a sense of humor is part of becoming a mature, emotionally healthy individual. Laughter is good for the soul, builds friendships and relieves stress. It serves as the glue for social situations and as an ice-breaker for sadness and boredom. If you’ve ever been told to “l(fā)ighten up” or “chill out”, you should save the blue attitude for serious situations and develop your sense of humor.
Forgive the accidental. A sudden fall is humorous not because we like to see people fall, but because it surprises. From a spilled(溢出)water glass in a meeting to Aunt Rae’s teeth coming off in the Thanksgiving turkey, the embarrassment of accidents can be relieved by humor and a helping hand. After making sure that nobody’s hurt, forgive accidents with a chuckle(咯咯地笑)rather than a scolding.
Look for the unexpected. The kid who used to look at you with his eyes closed during a test had the idea. Parents who serve green eggs and ham to their children on graduation day get the idea. Unexpected actions lighten an atmosphere and relax people.
Learn to laugh with your kids. Most of what children say and do is funny. Help them learn that accidents are sometimes funny and sometimes occasions for joining in and helping another human being. By sharing laughs and attempting to explain humor, you develop your sense of humor, as well as help kids develop their own sense of humor.
1. If you’ve ever been told to “l(fā)ighten up” or “chill out”, it means ______.
A. you are humorous B. you are blue
C. you lack humor D. you are funny
2. According to Paragraph 2, when your friend falls, you can ______.
A. laugh at him B. chuckle
C. scold him D. feel embarrassed
3.In the author’s opinion, if your mother serves green eggs and hum to you on your graduation day, she is ______.
A. boring B. serious C. considerate D. humorous
4.What is the best title for the passage?
A. How to Develop a Sense of Humor
B. Ways to Become a Healthy Individual
C. The Function of Humor
D. Proper Attitudes Toward Humor
