field of science and  technology is concerned.Among_these,_the_Indians_account
_for_a_significant share_of_the_pie.
Srinivas Ramanujan (18871920)
Ramanujan's great mathematical findings were beginning to be appreciated from 1915 to 1919.But his ach ievements were to be fully understood much later, well after his death in 1920.For example, his work on highly composite numbers (高合成數(shù)) with a large number of factors started a whole new line of researches in the theory of such numbers.
Meghnad Saha (18931956)
Meghnad Saha belonged to an outstanding group of Indian scientists whose contributions revolutionised diverse branches of knowledge and earned global recognition. He introduced the teaching of Nuclear Physics in Calcutta University at a time when the world had not even witnessed the impact of Nuclear Energy.Together with S.N.Bose,he made the first English translation of Einstein's papers on r elativity.
C.V.Raman (18881970)
Raman's discovery that molecules scatter light is known as the Raman effect. It is used to study the internal structure of the molecules.Early in his life Raman carried out and published extensive research on acoustics (聲學) and optics (光學).He received the Nobel Prize for his wellknown Raman effect in 1930.
Dr Hargobind Khorana ( 1922)
Khorana shared the Nobel Prize in Medicine or Physiology in 1968 with Marshall W.Nirenberg and Robert W.Holley for cracking (破譯) the genetic code. His researches have opened up a new branch called genetic engineering in science. In 1970 he became the Alfred Sloan Professor of Biology and Chemistry at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he continued his work.Apart from the Nobel Prize,Khorana has won many awards and honors for his achievement.

But his ach ievements were to be fully understood much later, well after his death in 1920.可知,去世后,他的科學成就才得到全面的承認.
61.選C 細節(jié)理解題.根據(jù)對DrHargobindKhorana的介紹,尤其是第一句話Khorana shared the Nobel Prize in Medicine or Physiology in 1968 with Marshall W.Nirenberg and Robert W.Holley for cracking (破譯) the genetic code.

17.Scientists have overcome a major difficulty for humans to receive life-saving organ transplants from pigs,thanks to a powerful new gene-editing technique.
In a paper in the US journal Science,the researchers described using gene-editing method to remove potentially harmful DNA sequences at 62locations,which are the remnants(留存之處) of a virus called PERV,from the pig genome.
Globally human organs for transplant being short in supply, researchers and doctors have long hoped that the problem could be solved through the availability of suitable animal organs for transplant,a concept known as xenotransplantation.
Pigs have been especially promising candidates due to their similar size and biological structure to humans.
But one of the largest safety concerns has been the fact that pigs,similar to most mammals,contain PERVs in all their living cells-that are harmless to their native hosts but can cause disease in other species.
"PERVs and the lack of ability to remove them from pig DNA was a real barrier on the promising stage set for xenotransplantation."
In the new study,scientists made 62genetic edits to inactivate viruses in pig cells,which they called"an explosive leap forward".
When these cells were then introduced to human cells in the lab,PERV infectivity was reduced by up to one thousand fold, they said.
"Our work got away the shadow PERVs put above the field more than a decade ago when the virus was discovered,while renewing our faith in xenotransplantation,"lead author Luhan Yang,a post-doctoral fellow at the Harvard University,said.
The team hopes eventually they can completely root out the risk that PERVs could cause disease in xenotransplantation by using modified pig cells to clone a line of pigs that would have their PERV genes inactivated."We still have a long way to go,though."Luhan added.

33.From the passage,we may know thatD.
A.PERV is found during Luhan Yang's experiments
B.PERV infecting rate has been reduced to 1‰now
C.the breakthrough is the result of a decade-long project
D.PERV is not a threat to same species in organ transplantation
34.Which of the following is TRUE?C
A.Explosive materials are used in experiments.
B.Experiments are carried out in 62locations in US.
C.Further research is still needed in Xenotransplantation.
D.Gene-editing method is used to remove harmful pig organs.
35.Which would be the best title for the passage?D
A.A big breakthrough in scientific field.
B.Viruses in pig cells are inactivated.
C.Viruses are defeated by scientists.
D.New hope in xenotransplantation.

When Leon was a baby,his doctor advised his parents not to give him a prosthetic hand until he was in his early teens."The doctor said Leon should first learn to get full use out of the hand he was born with,"says Paul.As Leon got older,his father looked into buying a prosthetic hand,which can cost as much as 30,000.Paul found a more affordable solution.
One day,Paul discovered a video on the Internet about Robohand,a prosthesis created with a 3D printer.He downloaded the free instructions and called Robohand's creators for advice.They told him all he needed was a 3D printer-which costs around 2,000-and some materials.
Luckily,Leon's school had recently purchased a 3D printer and it offered to help Paul build the hand for Leon."We used a soccer shinguard(護脛),cardboard,and tape.They cost about 10,"says paul.
With his new hand,Leon can do things better."I can help my mom more,because now I can carry two grocery bags,"he says.
Leon's father has already built several hands for Leon.Leon helps design each one.He says there's one thing in particular that he wants to do with a future prosthesis."The goal,"he says,"is to be able to tie my shoelaces(鞋帶)."
