I couldn’t believe my ears when I heard my name calling. I was chosen to play the leading role in a play, that was my dream. As a shy and thin girl, I used to being quite afraid of speaking in the public. But my parents and teachers always encouraged me to do so. What they said had a deep influence of me. By now I changed greatly. In class, I am often the first one to stand up and answer questions even if I may take some mistakes. Now I am delightful that I’m brave enough to overcome the difficulty in my heart. My experience shows that we should not be afraid of losing face but only in this way can we make progresses.
used to do過去常常做某事,是固定用法,所以being改成be。
in public是固定短語,所以去掉the。
have a deep influence on / upon sb.
由By now可知,表示過去發(fā)生的、持續(xù)到現(xiàn)在的動作或狀態(tài),用現(xiàn)在完成時,所以changed之前加have。
make some mistakes犯一些錯誤,是固定短語,所以take改成make。
we should not be afraid of losing face 與 only in this way can we make progresses.

External bleeding.Apply direct pressure.Place a clean, folded cloth over the injured area and firmly apply pressure. If blood soaks through, do not remove it.Instead, cover that cloth with another one and continue to apply pressure to the wound for 7—10 minutes. If the bleeding is from the ear, place a clean bandage over the ear, lay the victim on his side, and allow the blood to drain out through the bandage.
Elevate the injury.Position the wounded part of the body above the level of the heart if possible while you apply direct pressure.
Know the pressure points. If direct pressure and elevation don't sufficiently slow the bloodflow, find a pressure point.Large arteries(動脈) found close to the skin's surface supply blood to the head and to each arm and leg.The most common pressure points used during the first aid are located in the upper arms and in the creases above the upper legs.Apply pressure to the closest pressure point to the wound so that the artery is pressed between your fingers and the bone directly behind the artery. If using the pressure point on a leg, you may need to use the heel of your hand instead of your fingers.
Resort to a tourniquet (止血帶,壓脈器 ).On very rare occasions everything listed above may fail.To prevent the victim from dying, you should apply a tourniquet.Once a tourniquet is applied,it should not be loosened or removed until the victim has reached medical help.Use a tourniquet only if everything listed above has failed. If you use a tourniquet, write down somewhere on the victim the time when it was applied, so medical persons will know how long it has been in place.

Attention to detail is something everyone can and should do — especially in tight job market.
Bob Crossley, a human-resources expert notices this in the job applications that come across his desk every day. “It’s amazing how many candidates eliminate (淘汰) themselves,” he says. “Resumes (簡歷) arrive with faults. Some candidates don’t bother to spell the company’s name correctly. Once I see a mistake, I refuse the candidates,” Crossley concludes,” If they cannot take care of these details, why should we trust them with a job?”
Can we pay too much attention to details? Absolutely not.
Perfectionists(完美主義者) struggle over little things instead of something larger they work toward. “To keep from losing the forest for the trees,” says Charles Garfield, the professor at the University of California, San Francisco, “We must constantly ask ourselves how the details we’re working will influence the larger picture. If they don’t, we should drop them and move to something else.”
Garfield compares this process to his work as a computer scientist at NASA. “The Apollo II moon launch was slightly off-course 90 percent of the time,” says Garfield. “But a successful landing was still likely because we knew the exact position of our goal. This allowed us to make adjustments as necessary.” Knowing where to go helps us judge the importance of every task we undertake.
Again and again, we see that by doing little things within our grasp well, large rewards follow.

Dear Dr. Health
I am very overweight. Since people often laugh to me behind my back when I ride the underground or going for a walk, I am embarrassing and do not like going out any more. Certainly, I do not feel comfortably going to the gym to work out. Instead, I prefer to exercise at home, and it seemed that I am always going on a diet. But, no matter what I do, my efforts to lose weight always end in failure.
As a matter of the fact, my friends say that I am an attractive girl just the way I am, and that I should not worry at all about my waist or my figures. However, I do worry that my weight might damage my health. I’m not sure whether I should take weight-loss pills. There are news about a Canadian actress which suffered liver failure because of taking those pills.
What do you think I should do?
Best wishes
Guo XiLin
