Our class have had a discussion about idol worship.
【答案】
Our class have had / held a discussion about idol worship. Some of my classmates consider that we need idols that have set good examples to us. And our idols' deeds can inspire us to make efforts to make progress. Besides, not a few(=many) famous people have benefited from idol worship since they experienced their roads to be famous.
However, others do not agree. They believe we never need idols and idol worship can do nothing but waste money and time which we should have spent on studies. What's worse, some unhealthy idol worship may do harm to(=be harm to) ourselves as well as others.
As for me, I’m against idol worship, but we must be aware that idol worship can't take the place of our efforts and our future will and should be created by our own hands.

【題目】Who knows about sleep? Astronauts (宇航員). They have to. Their bodies are cut off from the outside world that reminds (提醒) us what time it is. But actually, it's even worse than that. An astronaut reported in his diary that he was likely to make mistakes on days following an unusually late bedtime.
So NASA started doing some serious research. They quickly realized that we're a slave to the outside world. Without light and darkness, we' re unable to regulate (管理) sleep times.
Because of modern technology, we're all living more like astronauts now. Light is no longer a function (功能) of the sun, but of always-on indoor lights, TV and computer screens. Temperature no longer follows a cycle of cooling at night and warming during the day. Is it any wonder that a third of Americans have sleep problems?
Maybe you think this doesn't affect you — or at least not much. You're wrong. Research done on non-astronauts has shown the same thing. After two weeks of six hours of sleep a night; you're drunk. By the end of two weeks, the six-hour sleepers behaved as badly as those who hadn't slept for 24 hours.
But what did they say when asked how they felt? "It's not affecting me." So if you are performing poorly because of sleep problems, you may have no idea. This is a real problem.
So what answers did NASA come up with?
Take an hour to calm down before bed. Yes, you're busy. But your time is not more valuable than an astronaut's.
Keep your bedroom dark, cool and free from noise. Even if you think "the light doesn't affect you" or "the noise isn't that bad", it can still affect sleep quality.
Another advice: forget the alarm clock (鬧鐘) in the morning; set an alarm to remind you to go to bed at night. When it goes off, finish up any work on the computer, and turn off any unnecessary lights. This prevents you from cheating yourself on sleep and allows you to wake up naturally.
【1】 What did NASA find about people’s sleep?
A. It takes a long time to develop regular sleep times.
B. It’s strongly influenced by the outside world.
C. It remains untouched by outside influences.
D. It’s hard to change one’s sleep habits.
【2】The biggest problem of those who haven’t enough sleep lies in the fact that .
A. they can’t fall asleep without the lights on
B. they don’t know whether they sleep well
C. they refuse to regulate their sleep times
D. they get too drunk to sleep well
【3】 What does the underlined sentence in the text mean?
A. You should make full use of your time.
B. You can find the time to get ready to sleep.
C. You can sleep later to finish your work first.
D. You should learn from astronauts’ way of sleep.
【4】 What’s the advice on the alarm clock?
A. Use it to remind you to sleep.
B. Put it far away from your bed.
C. Get up immediately when it rings.
. Pay no attention to it when it rings.

【題目】In recent years some extreme weather events have arisen from global warming because of human activities, with studies indicating an increasing threat from extreme weather in the future. Scientists were certain that global warming is being caused mostly by increasing concentrations of greenhouse gases and other humanactivities.
Its effects include warming global temperature, rising sea levels and expansion of deserts in the subtropics(亞熱帶). Warming is expected to be greater over land than over the oceans and greatest in the Arctic, with the continuing loss of glaciers, permafrost and sea ice. Other likely changes include more frequent extreme weather events including heat waves, droughts, heavy rainfall with floods, heavy snowfall and species extinction due to great change of temperature. Bad effects on humans include the threat to food security from decreasing crop yields and the loss of populated(住人的) areas because of rising sea levels.
Possible responses to global warming are reduction of emissions(排放), adaptation to its effects, building systems resilient to its effects, and possible future climate engineering. Most countries are parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change UNFCCC), whose objective is to prevent dangerous climate change. It has adopted a range of policies designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to assist in adaptation to global warming. It is agreed that future global warming should be limited to below 2.0 °C (3.6 °F) relative to the pre-industrial level.
On 12 November 2015, NASA scientists reported that human-made carbon dioxide continues to increase above levels that have not been seen in hundreds of thousands of years: currently, about half of the carbon dioxide released from the burning of fossil fuels remains in the atmosphere and is not absorbed by vegetation and the oceans.
【1】What does the underlined word “resilient” mean?
A. be easily damaged B. be able to recover easily
C. can be bent easily D. be difficult to change
【2】Which of following is NOT mentioned as an effect of global warming?
A. rising sea levelsand expansion of deserts
B. more frequent extreme weather events
C. species extinction
D. increasing crop yields
【3】Which of the following can be inferred from the last two paragraphs?
A. It is likely for us to deal with global warming by reducing greenhouse gas emissions, adapting to its effects and climate engineering.
B. There is no solution to too much carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere.
C. It is common that human-made carbon dioxide keeps on increasing greatly in the previous several centuries.
D. Future global warming should be limited to below 3.6 °C.

【題目】Four cinemas in the UK
The Kinema, Lincolnshire
It's a wooden building on the outside and a two-screen cinema on the inside, all nesting among pine trees in a tiny village. The Kinema showed its first film in 1922 and the first six rows were deekchairs(折疊帆布躺椅). Today, it's more richly decorated.
“People come here because it's a fantastic experience,” says manager philip Jones. “Many rooms in the Kinema are simple and not attractive, but we try to remain everything that makes it special. ”
The Cube, Bristol
It's not really a cinema. It is a not-for-profit cooperative run by volunteers, which has been operating for the last 15 years.
They are “unique for what we do, which is to operate seven nights a week and with no funding.” They make many things themselves, such as cola and yogurt.
The Broadway, Nottingham
A cinema has been here since the 1960s, when local fashion designer Paul Smith would come to see arty foreign films, which heavily influenced his career choice. Later, he designed the stripy(條紋的) sofas.
The Broadway was previously used as a church, but locals love it for its independent, art house, and DIY spirit. The Broadway also has a right-on restaurant, with locally sourced vegetables and salads, and even serves its own beer.
The Rex, Hertfordshire
It opened to the public in 1938 and has been named the most beautiful cinema in the UK. There's a varied programme with different films every night. Hot dogs and popcorn are banned. And a real person answers the phone when you call. People speak very highly of the Rex. So do go, if only once, to see just how a cinema should be run.
【1】In Philip Jones' opinion, the Kinema may attract people who ________.
A.live in the nearby villages
B.a(chǎn)re fond of rich decorations
C.a(chǎn)re interested in wooden structures
D.want to experience something special
