第二節(jié)閱讀表達(dá)(共5小題;每小題2分,滿(mǎn)分10分)

[1] Mums and dads care for their kids from the minute they were born. It's a parent's job to love and guide kids, and most parents will do this as long as they live, even when the “kids” have grown up and have children of their own. That means you have many years ahead to share with your mum and dad.

[2] But how will you get along with your parents? Here are some ways you can stay close, get along, and build a strong relationship with them.

[3] Spend time together. It might be easy to be physically in the same place with your mum or dad. But how much time do you spend just enjoying each other's company (陪伴) ?

Instead of playing a computer game or watching TV,maybe ask your mum and dad to play with you. Go outside together, try a board game,or read a book out aloud. If your parents are divorced, make the most of the time you spend together. In between, talk on the phone and e-mail each other to stay in touch.

[4] Many kids say they’d like their parents to help them when they’re upset. But your mum or dad might not know that you’re having a problem. Tell your parents if you’re sad or struggling with something. If you don't usually do this,it can feel funny at first. Try it and you’ll be glad you did.

[5] Be kind. Little things might mean a lot to your mum or dad. You can brighten a parent's day with a hug,a card,or a joke. It's also lovely when a kid offers to help fold the laundry (洗好的衣物) or clean up his or her room without being asked. And if you try not to fight with your brothers or sisters, your parents might be also excited.

Many teachers use student participation as a basis on which to assign grades. Some criticize the practice as harmful to classroom dynamics, like two California high schoolers who wrote an opinion piece about it in their school newspaper. “A student who is unwilling or unable to speak in class does not always show a lack of care, since all students function in different ways,” they write, noting that some students require more time,or written assignments,to grasp new material presented in class.

They also point out the detrimental effect participation requirements can have on the quality of a lesson; for example, students might speak up only in an effort to get participation points, resulting in questions that lack insight and wasted opportunities for those who genuinely want to learn.

Finally, the high schoolers criticize the nature of participation grades. uSimply recording the number of times a person participates fails to capture the nature of what exactly was said,” they write, adding that participation grades leave too much room for teachers’ favoritism to show through.

Of course, there's a different side to every story. In a recent article in The Atlantic,a middle school teacher defends her decision to keep class participation as a requirement for her students. uAs a teacher,it is my job to teach grammar, vocabulary, and literature, but I must also teach my students how to succeed in the world we live in — a world where most people won’t stop talking”’ she says. “If anything,I feel even more strongly that my introverted(內(nèi)向的) students must learp how to self-advocate by communicating with parents, educators, and the world at large."

She mentions several resources in the article. One such resource is Dr. Kendall Hoyt,an assistant professor of medicine at Dartmouth Medical School. Dr. Hoyt is a self-described introvert and mother of two introverts. “I understand that social anxiety is a real thing, and part of my job as a teacher is to teach people how to express themselves clearly and be heard,” Dr. Hoyt says. She also teaches this to her own children, creating chances for them that require them to approach strangers, make eye contact, and ask for something, like directions or information.

Researchers in Britain are driving the environmental movement to a new level. A team from the University of Warwick has built what it calls the worlds first completely environmentally friendly Formula Three racing car.

The car is made mainly of renewable materials, like plants and vegetables. The structure around the car is made from natural plant fibers and potatoes. The steering wheel (方向盤(pán)) is made from root vegetables like carrots. The engine uses bio-fuel made from vegetable oil and waste chocolate.

The new racing car is extremely fast. The car has a top speed of two hundred and fifteen kilometres an hour. And it can go from zero to ninety-five kilometres an hour in just two and a half seconds. The racing car meets all of the Formula Three racing requirements except for its biodiesel(生物柴油) engine.

Automobile racing is one of the most widely watched sports in the world. But it is also considered one of the least friendly sports to the environment. Racing cars burn a lot of fuel, and create a lot of air pollution. In recent years, the racing industry has taken steps to protect the environment. More racing companies are now producing cars that use less energy. These cars produce less pollution than cars that depend on traditional fuel, like gasoline.

Last month, the new racing car was set to run in its first competitive race at the Formula Three Championship Final at Brands Hatch. It would have been the first biodiesel-powered car to race at Formula Three. Current Formula Three rules let only gasoline-powered car to compete. Officials needed permission from all of the Formula Three racers for the biodiesel-powered car to compete. They were unable to contact one of the drivers,so the new racing car didn't appear in the event. In test runs, the new racing car was the fifth fastest among the Formula Three race cars. Supporters are hoping to have the fuel problem solved in time to compete in the next season.

   C. many people like to watch automobile racing

   D. the new racing car will be allowed to compete in the next season of Formula Three racing

54. In recent years, racing companies are producing cars that.

   A. burn more fuel

   B. go more quickly

   C. produce less pollution

   D. cost less money

   B. Because officials needed each racer's permission

 but failed to contact one.

   C. Because there?re some technical problems to be solved.
