Under the impression that if you want to lose weight, you have to eat less?Well apparently, the solution may not be quite that simple.

Instead, some scientists in the UK have been experimenting with ways to trick the body into feeling full.

A government-funded team has been testing simple foods found on everyday shopping lists.

Bread, cheese, milk, soup and sauces can all be developed to cause the brain to send a brain signal which acts as an appetite suppression(抑制).

Peter Wilde, Scientist of UK Institute of Food Research, said,“If you can slow down the digestion of fat in the body, the undigested fat goes further down the small intestine(腸)and then it sends a message to the brain to reduce your appetite, so you can eat a normal-sized meal and the digestion is slowed down and then the message goes to your brain to reduce your appetite and you go for longer without being hungry.”

The researchers insist that the treated foods will still be entirely natural products, and free from processing.

They believe helping people to reduce weight this way is beneficial because it allows them to eat normally. The scientists also think their treatment could be taken into snacks to make sure people don’t eat too much.

The research is still at the experimental stage and it will be at least a year before their techniques can be used in a large scale human trial.
