In our home it was natural to fear our father. 1 our mother was afraid of him. As children,my sister and I thought every family was like that, thinking God 2 it that way.
We were good children, even if daddy couldn't see it. Part of this was because we 3 not do anything. We were 4 especially when daddy was home.
Then came the day we found something 5 to do. We discovered we could draw pictures with 6 on our front door, and it would rub right off. We could have lots of fun,so we set to work drawing and making lots of pretty 7 all over it. We had a great time. We decided to finish our masterpiece, knowing mama would just love it and 8 us.
The praise we expected did not come. Instead of 9 the beauty in our work, all mama could see was the time and effort she would need to 10 it off. She was mad. We did not understand why,but we knew we were in big trouble!
Off we ran to find a place to 11 Soon we heard the frightened voices of mom and our neighbors calling out to us. Still we did not 12 . They were afraid we had run away or 13 in the pond nearby.
The sun set and it began to get dark. As we 14 together in the dark,we became aware of yet another voice strangely different, our daddy. In it we heard something we had 15 heard before:fear, pain and despair. Then came his prayers, our daddy with tears running down his face,16 God that he would give his life to him if he would safely return his girls.
Nothing in our lives had prepared us for this kind of shock. We 17 to him like a magnet (磁石) .We don't know yet if we actually took steps or if God somehow 18 us out and into Daddy's arms. What we do remember are those strong, loving arms hugging us like we were precious.
Things were different after that. We had a new daddy. God had 19 him with another, one who loved us.
Mama always told us that God was a God of 20. He changed our whole family with a piece of chalk.

Rx Laughter is a nonprofit international charity. We research and implement (carry out) initiatives (計劃,措施) that use comedy and humor in the most helpful and sensitive ways possible. Our primary focus is on helping people of all ages who are suffering from very serious physical and emotional traumas (創(chuàng)傷) .
Specifically,we believe that very funny standup comedy, movies and TV programs can be a very important, helpful part of medical, psychotherapeutic (心理療法的) ,educational and overall preventive health care from childhood through old age. We do this in uniquelydesigned ways, working closely with worldrenowned experts in the field of health care at major medical institutes internationally. Rx Laughter then puts these findings into practical usage. Briefly:
Medical:Through our collaborative projects with major medical institutes such as the UCLA Jonsson Cancer Center, the Pediatric Hematology-Oncology Unit at the Mattel Children's Hospital? UCLA and The National Cancer Hospital & Adult Hospice in Thailand,we carefully design and implement research initiatives so that patients can be in less pain and have less fear, anxiety & depression―emotions that can overwhelm patients & their families during times of crisis.
Educational:Led by the national Comedy SportzLA teams, this comedy show at their theater gives patients an opportunity for renewed selfconfidence,to learn a new skill, and to feel like a whole person again, not "a medical condition".
Overall Preventive Care: With the rising costs of medical care and health insurance, preventive health care is more important than ever. If comedy viewing can keep us emotionally and physically healthier and help us deal with times of crisis in our lives, then we will have found a very potent, inexpensive prescription for healthy living.
Thus,we encourage comedy, music and other forms of upbeat entertainment for patients and their support system to enjoy together, and we research how best to do this,so that comedy shows can be "prescribed" as a proven benefit to maintaining excellent health.
Thank you for your interest in our charity.

Ridgewood is a small, quiet town 20 miles from Manhattan. It is a typical suburban town, perfect for raising children away from the fast pace of the city. However, some Ridgewood kids feel as upset as if they were on the city's busy streets. In addition to hours of homework,Ridgewood's children are occupied with afterschool activities―from swimming to piano to religious classes.
Out of desperation one day,the town decided to schedule another activity. This one was called " Ridgewood Family Night―Ready,Set,Relax!" Instead of schedules filled with sports, music,or overtime at the office, some of the town's 25,000 residents decided to take the night off and stay home. For a few months before Family Night,a committee of volunteers worked hard to spread the word. Younger students took "Save the Date for Me" leaflets home to their parents. The mayor issued a statement, and schools and clubs agreed to cancel homework and meetings so families could relax and be together.
The tension between a hope for a more relaxed lifestyle and the knowledge that the standard for success has been raised in recent years weighs heavily on the minds of the townspeople. Some parents like to recall a different kind of childhood, one without so many scheduled afterschool activities. However, these same parents feel obliged to make sure their children are prepared to survive in today's highpressure work environment. They are afraid that any gap in their children's physical or intellectual development might mean they won't be admitted to the "right" universities and won't succeed in a more and more competitive world.
Nevertheless,it seems that Family Night worked,at least to a point. Cars moved easily around Ridgewood's normally busy downtown streets, and stores and restaurants saw a drop in business. Some families ate supper together for the first time in months.
Initially, there was great hope of taking back their lives. But sadly, few families believe that one night will change their lives. Many are sure that they will fall back into the habit of overscheduling their children to be overachieving adults.
