Suddenly, I heard a   3  open and slam shut at the back of the church. Quick   4  hurried along the floor. A young man looked around in a   5  and then sat next to me. His eyes were full of tears.
“I’m  6 ,” he explained, though no explanation was   7 . After several eulogies (悼文), he leaned over and commented, “Why do they keep   8  Mary by the name of ‘Margaret’?” “Because that was her name, Margaret. Never Mary,” I   9  . “No, that isn’t correct,” he insisted. “Her name is Mary, Mary Peters.” “That isn’t  10  this is,” I replied. “Isn’t this the Lutheran church?” “No, the Lutheran church is across the street. I believe you’re at the   11  funeral, sir.”
The solemnness (莊嚴(yán)) of the occasion   12  with the realization of the man’s mistake bubbled (充溢) up inside me and came out as  13 . I peeked at the misguided man seated beside me. He was laughing,   14 . I imagined Mother laughing. At the   15  “Aman”, we darted(猛沖) out a door and into the parking lot.
“I do believe we’ll be the   16  of the town,” he smiled. He said his name was Rick and that   17  he had missed his aunt’s funeral, he asked me out for a cup of coffee. That afternoon began a lifelong   18  for me with this man who attended the wrong funeral. A year after our meeting, we were   19  at a country church. This time we both arrived at the same church, right on time.
Whenever anyone asks us how we   20  , Rick tells them, “Her mother and my aunt Mary introduced us.”

Like any good mother, when Karen found out that another baby was on the way, she did what she could to help her 3-year-old son, Michael, prepare for a new sister. And day after day, night after night, Michael sang to his sister in Mommy’s tummy(肚子).

The world is filled with smart, talented, educated and gifted people. We meet them every day. A few days ago, my car was not running well. I pulled it into a garage and the young mechanic had it fixed in just a few minutes. He knew what was wrong by simply listening to the engine. I was amazed. The sad truth is, great talent is not enough.
I am constantly shocked at how little talented people earn. I heard the other day that less than 5 percent of Americans earn more than $100, 000 a year. A business consultant who specializes in the medical trade was telling me how many doctors and dentists struggle financially. It was this business consultant who gave me the phrase, “They are one skill away from great wealth.”
There is an old saying that goes, “Job means‘ just over broke (破產(chǎn))' ”. And unfortunately, I would say that the saying applies to millions of people. Because school does not think financial intelligence is intelligence, most workers“ live within their means”. They work and they pay the bills. Instead I recommend to young people to seek work for what they will learn, more than what they will earn.
When I ask the classes I teach, “How many of you can cook a better hamburger than McDonald's?” almost all the students raise their hands. I then ask, “So if most of you can cook a better hamburger, how come McDonald's makes more money than you?” The answer is obvious: McDonald's is excellent at business systems. The reason so many talented people are poor is because they focus on bui1ding a better hamburger and know little or nothing about business systems. The world is filled with talented poor people. They focus on perfecting their skills at building a better hamburger rather than the skills of selling and delivering the hamburger.
小題1:The author mentions the mechanic in the first paragraph to show that     .
A.he is just one of the talented people
B.he is ready to help others
C.he has a sharp sense of hearing
D.he knows little about car repairing
小題2:The underlined part in the third paragraph can be best replaced by       .
A.spend more than they can afford
B.do in their own way
C.live in their own circle
D.live within what they earn
小題3:Why do talented people earn so little according to the author?
A.They don't work hard enough.
B.They lack financial intelligence.
C.They don't make full use of their talents.
D.They have no specialized skills.
小題4:The success of McDonald's lies in its       .
A.skills at making hamburgers.B.good business systems
C.talented workersD.excellent service
小題5:The main purpose of the author is to tell us       .
A.how young people can find a satisfactory job
B.what schools should teach students
C.why so many talented people are poor
D.how McDonald's makes much money

Here in the hills were buffaloes (野牛). I had even, in my very young days — when I could not live till I had killed one of each kind of African animal — shot a bull out there. Later on, when I was not so interested to shoot as to watch the wild animals, I had been out to see them again. But twice I had to go back without success.
But one afternoon as I was having tea with some friends outside the house, Denys came flying from Nairobi and went over our heads westwards; a little while after he turned and came back and landed on the farm. I drove down to the plane to bring him back, but he would not get out of his plane.
“The buffaloes are out feeding in the hills,” he said, “come out and have a look at them.”
“I cannot come,” I said. “I have got a tea-party up at the house.”
“But we will go and see them and be back in a quarter of an hour,” he said.
This sounded to me like the suggestions which people make to you in a dream. So I went up with him. It did not take us long to see the buffaloes from the air; we counted them as they peacefully mixed and separated on the open ground closed in by bushes. There was one very old big black bull, and a number of young ones; if a stranger had come near to them they would have heard or smelt him at once, but they were not prepared for something from the air. They heard the noise of our machine and stopped feeding, but they did not seem to be able to look up. In the end they realized that something very strange was about; the old bull first walked out in front of the others. Suddenly he began to go down the valley side and after a moment he broke into a run. The whole group now followed him, rushing hurriedly down into the buses. In a small wood of low trees they stopped and kept close together. Here they believed themselves to be out of sight. We flew up and away. It was like having been taken there by a secret unknown route.
When I came back to my tea-party the teapot on the stone was still so hot that I burned my fingers on it.

小題3:When the buffaloes heard the noise of the plane, they ________.
