Recently there has been a heated debate on whether the university should charge a fee to the public who use its sports field. People’s attitudes toward it vary from person to person.
Many people think that universities should serve the public, not just their professors and students. In 1. opinion, universities are public assets—they should serve not only the students and faculty 2. the general public as well. If there are too many “outside” people on the campus disturbing the order, school officials should do something to control the crowds without3.(demand) payment. In addition, the university has many other options to control public access4. the campus or sports field, such as giving free access cards to 5. (resident) of the closest communities, or rotating a limited number of cards between residents. Charging a fee is not a fair option.
However, opponents argue that universities are not 6.(complete) open spaces for the public to use. They hold the view that charging a fee is the most effective way of controlling access and making the most value out of the university’s resources. A high fee would filter out most of the visitors who have no desire 7.(use) the sports field for its intended purpose. Besides, universities and their assets are expensive investments, 8. (fund) by the government and the public, for the education of students and 9. (science) research. If members of the public 10.(want) to use these facilities, which might cause stress on the university’s resources, it will make sense that they should pay a price. They also think neighboring residents have other options for recreation, such as public parks, if they do not want to pay money to use the sports field.

Not many parents realize that by encouraging their children to drink plenty of fresh water, they're helping them build healthier, stronger bodies.
Water is the ideal drink to prevent thirst and ensure hydration(水合作用).Our bodies need water to regulate body temperature and to provide the means for nutrients to travel to all our organs.Water also transports oxygen to our cells, removes waste, and protects joints and organs.Poor hydration can affect a child's concentration levels, memory and learning ability.
"While most parents know that everyone should be drinking 6~8 glasses of water each day, they often find it difficult to get their children to drink water,"says Megan Pentz-Kluyts,a leading registered nutrition coach. However, there are healthy ways of making water tastier.
Keep a big bottle of water in the fridge that has been flavored with fresh fruits and herbs, such as chopped lemons, strawberries, apples,or oranges,as these flavor the water and up the intake of nutrients.
Mix fruit juices with water to increase water consumption. However,it's better to eat fruit whole as it provides nutrients such as fiber, vitamins, and minerals, which may not always be found in the same quantity once the fruit has been made into a juice.
Freeze bottles of water overnight so that the water is still cool later in the day when the sun is beating down.Use fun containers with your children's favorite characters on them to match the fruit or herb that's been used to flavor it for easy reference when grabbing from the freezer for school.
By encouraging your children to drink water from an early age, you'll help them form a habit that will be easy to follow through for the rest of their lives. You can set the best example by always reaching for water when you're thirsty or by making sure that there's always cool water readily available, whether in the fridge at home or packed into the car for after-school runs or family outings.

I am a good mother to three children. I have tried never to let my profession stand in the way of being a good parent.
I no longer consider myself the center of the universe. I show up. I listen. I try to laugh. I am a good friend to my husband. I have tried to make marriage vows (誓約)mean what they say. I am a good friend to my friends. And they are good to me. Without them, there would be nothing to say to you today.
So here’s what I wanted to tell you today: Get a life. A real life, not a desire of the next promotion, the bigger paycheck, the larger house.

It is so easy to waste our lives, our days, our hours and our minutes. It is so easy to exist instead of to live. I learned to live many years ago. Something really, really bad happened to me, something that changed my life in ways that, if I had my choice, it would never have been changed at all. And what I learned from it is what, today, seems to be the hardest lesson of all.
I learned to love the journey, not the destination, I learned to look at all the good in the world and try to give some of it back because I believed in it, completely and totally. And I tried to do that, in part, by telling others what I had learned.
By telling them this: Read in the backyard with the sun on your face, Learn to be happy, And think of life as a deadly illness, because if you do, you will live it with joy and passion as it ought to be lived.

Elephants on the coast of Thailand are acting strange. They stamp their feet and motion toward the hills. The sea draws back from the beaches.Fish fall heavily in the mud.Suddenly,a huge wave appears. This is no ordinary wave.It is tsunami!
Tsunami waves are larger and faster than normal surface waves.A tsunami wave can travel as fast as a jet plane and can be as tall as a ten-story building.Imagine dropping a stone into a pond. The water on the surface ripples(起漣漪).A tsunami is like a very powerful ripple.Tsunamis begin when the ocean rises or falls very suddenly.Large amounts of seawater are displaced. This movement caused huge waves.
For a tsunami to occur, there must be some kind of force that causes the ocean water to become displaced. Most tsunamis are caused by underwater earthquakes. However, volcanoes ,landslides(塌方),large icebergs, and even meteorites(隕石)are capable of causing one of these mighty waves.
Tsunamis are extremely powerful.Ordinary waves lose power when they break.Tsunami waves can remain powerful for several days.Because tsunami waves are so strong, they can kill people, damage property, and completely ruin an ecosystem in just one hour.
Scientists have no way of predicting when a tsunami will hit. However,if a powerful enough earthquake occurs, scientists can send out a warning or a watch.A warning means that a tsunami will very likely hit soon.A watch means that conditions are favorable for a tsunami. When people are informed of a watch or a warning, they have more time to prepare. It is best not to get caught unaware when a tsunami is on the way.

After years of sales growth, major publishers reported a fall in their e-book sales for the first time this year, introducing new doubts about the potential of e-books in the publishing industry. Yet despite the increasing realization that digital and print can easily coexist in the market, the question of whether the e-book will “kill” the print book continues to surface. It doesn’t matter if the intention is to predict or dismiss this possibility; the potential disappearance of the book does not stop to inspire our imagination.
After television was invented, many claimed radio would die. But radio ended up surviving by finding new uses; people started listening in cars, during tram rides and on factory floors. The myth of the disappearing book isn’t new, either. As early as 1894, there was guess that they’d be replaced by what we today call audiobooks. This happened again and again. Movies, radio, television, and smartphones—all conspired to destroy print books as a source of culture and entertainment. It is not by chance that the idea of the death of the book surfaces in moments of technological change.
We create emotional bonds with media as they become an integral part of our life. The emergence of a new technology —like e-readers — doesn’t just in indicate economic and social change. It also causes us to adjust our relationship with something that has become an integral part of our day-to-day life.
The ones who still worry for the disappearance of print books may rest assured: Books have endured many technical revolutions and are in the best position to survive this one. Yet the myth of the disappearing medium will continue to provide an appealing narrative about both the power of technology and our dislike to change. Easy to remember and to spread, the story of the death of media reflects our excitement for the future, as well as our fear of losing parts of our intimate world一and finally, of ourselves.
1.What do people tend to believe according to the text?
A. Print books will disappear in the end.
B. It is unwise to invest in e-books.
C. Digital and print will exist all the time.
D. The death of books is just an imagination.
2.What can we learn from the second paragraph?
A. The forms of books change with new technology.
B. Books have a bright digital future actually.
C. Culture will disappear with the end of books.
D. The idea of book death follows technological changes.
3.What does the myth of disappearing books reflect?
A. Our doubt about the power of technology.
B. Our fear of losing ourselves in society.
C. Our preference for new technology.
D. Our pleasure of experiencing technical revolutions.
