3.Nuclear power's danger to health,safety,and even life itself can be summed up in one word:radiation.
Nuclear radiation has a certain mystery about it,partly because it cannot be detected by human senses.It can't be seen or heard,or touched or tasted,even though it may be all around us.There are other things like that.For example,radio waves are all around us but we can't detect them,sense them,without a radio receiver.Similarly,we can't sense radioactivity without a radiation detector.But unlike common radio waves,nuclear radiation is not harmless to human beings and other living things.
At very high levels,radiation can kill an animal or human being immediately by killing masses of cells in vital organs.But even the lowest levels can do serious damage.There is no levels of radiation that is completely safe.If the radiation does not hit anything important,the damage may not be serious.This is the case when only a few cells are hit,and if they are killed immediately.Your body will replace the dead cells with healthy ones.But if the few cells are only damaged,and if they reproduce themselves,you may be in trouble.They reproduce themselves in a deformed way.They can grow into cancer.Sometimes this does not show up for many years.
This is another reason for some of the mystery about nuclear radiation.Serious damage can be done without the victim being aware at the time that damage has occurred.A person can be irradiated(輻射)and feel fine,then die for cancer five,ten,or twenty years later as a result.Or a child can be born weak as a result of radiation absorbed by its grandparents.Radiation can hurt us.We must know the truth.
32.How can nuclear radiation kill an animal?D
A.By damaging its heart.
B.By killing a few cells.
C.By hitting any place in its body.
D.By killing many cells in important organs.
33.The word"deformed"in paragraph 3has the similar meaning toA.
A.unnatural      B.normal      C.usual      D.proper
34.What can we infer from the passage?D
A.We can't detect radioactivity even with modern equipment.
B.Only radiation at very high levels can kill an animal or human being.
C.If a few cells are only damaged,healthy cells will take the place of dead ones.
D.Radiation is harmful no matter what level it is.
35.What's the author's main purpose in writing this passage?C
A.Discussing the cause of cancer.
B.Solving the mystery about radiation.
C.Emphasizing the importance of protection of radiation.
D.Introducing the nuclear power.

At very high levels, radiation can kill an animal or human being immediately by killing masses of cells in vital organs可知核輻射通過殺死許多體內(nèi)重要的器官的細(xì)胞殺死動物;故選D
33.A 猜測詞意題  根據(jù)第三段They reproduce themselves in a deformed way.They can grow into cancer.可知他們可能變成癌癥,所以細(xì)胞再生的方式是朝著不好的方向發(fā)展,所以本題選A.
34.D 考查推理判斷題 根據(jù)第三段There is no levels of radiation that is completely safe.

11.Haikou:A shark was killed after being dragged to shore at Yalong Berth beach in Sanya,South China's Hainan Province,on Sunday afternoon.
It was the first time a shark had been caught in the beach area,a popular tourist site in Hainan.
Local fishermen said they caught the 3-meter-long,l-ton shark by chance when they were fishing in sea water 1,000metres deep near the beach.
Police temporarily protected the shark while oceanographers(海洋學(xué)家) decided whether it was a species belonging to State protection.
Fishermen later killed and sold the shark after oceanographers confirmed  that it was a whale shark and therefore not under State protection.
The shark was believed to have drifted(漂移)into the area from the deep sea due to strong waves caused last week by Typhoon Imbudo.It had no open injuries but experts said they believed it suffered from internal bleeding.
Local police officer Fu Chenggeng said beachgoers should not feel threatened by sharks because the fish never attack human beings on their own initiative(主動).Fu said he had never heard of any shark attacks at the Sanya beach since he first started work there eight years ago.
However, police said they will improve the security system to safeguard tourists'safety on the beach.

18.When I was about twelve,I headed to a restaurant for dinner with my family. It was winter, and on that particular night, the wind was really blowing. As my mom and I headed towards the restaurant from our car,a girl about my age and her mother came up to us.They asked if we had any spare change. My mom immediately asked where they kept their things. They pointed to an old car in a parking across the street. The girl said there were six of them living in that car, which was the same size as my own family.
My mom said she had something to do after handing the people a few dollars. She sent me inside the restaurant with my dad and my three siblings(兄弟姐妹).But she didn't come.
Later,I found out she had gone home and practically emptied our cupboards into a few bags. Then, she brought that food over to the car and handed the bags to the family.I wasn't there when that part happened, but I can only imagine the joy it brought to their faces.
A few days later, when I actually found out about what she had done,I asked her why she helped those people. She told me that they were not lucky.I remember the face of that girl who had asked us for change; she was the same age as me,yet we looked so different.
Here I stood, dressed in almost new clothes, headed to dine in a restaurant and then back home to the bedroom I shared with my younger sister.I remember thinking that the girl didn't have any food to eat and that she was heading back to a cold car shared with five other people. After painting this picture in my mind,I understood why my mom had done what she did.I will never forget what she did that night, and how she taught me one of the best lessons I ever learned.

15.It does not come as a surprise that Dubai has a growing problem with"tragic".The local rulers have explored all the conventional ways to get traffic moving again,including higher prices for parking,fuel and insurance.But at a recent conference in Hamburg,Hussain Lootah said that the city may adopt a more strict approach:setting an income level for vehicle ownership.
Mr Lootah's approach is unlikely to be copied widely,but mayors of other big cities around the world are starting to think about taking severe actions of their own,including complete car bans in inner cities.But the efforts may not be enough to reduce traffic and pollution.The problems will only get worse:the number of vehicles sold globally each year will grow from around 80million today to more than 100million by the end of the decade,according to IHS Automotive.
There are already a handful of car-free communities around the world.But these are typically small and often tourist destinations that seek to create a throwback(后退;返祖遺傳) in time,such as Sark Island,in the English Channel.The largest car-free urban area is probably Venice,where it is impossible to build roads and bridges to link the more than 100small islands the city sits on.
Yet pedestrian malls(步行街) and other car-free zones keep popping up in cities around the world.Some cities are considering ways to limit central city access to"green"machines,such as battery-electric vehicles.Hamburg is perhaps the furthest along.
Such extreme plans may fly in a city such as Hamburg.But in many other cities the political resistance even to less far-reaching measures is hard to overcome.Michael Bloomberg,New York's former mayor,tried twice to introduce a jam charge for much of Manhattan,but his plans were rejected by state lawmakers.

25.From Paragraph 1,we know thatB.
A.Dubai government tries to improve its local incomes
B.Dubai government tries to solve traffic problems
C.Dubai government tries to reduce prices for parking
D.Dubai government tries to offer insurance to locals
26.It is still hard to reduce traffic problems,becauseC.
A.Mr Lootah's approach will be copied widely.
B.mayors take gentle measures toward them.
C.more vehicles will be sold globally each year.
D.complete car bans in inner cities are not made.
27.What causes Venice to be the largest car-free urban area?A
A.Its natural geographical characteristics.
B.Its too many tourist destinations.
C.Its reduced number of cars.
D.Its government law on car free.
28.What can we learn from Paragraph 4?D
A.People can only walk in central city.
B.All vehicles can be used in central city.
C.Hamburg may not adopt"green"machines.
D."Green"machines can be accessible in central city.
