India now leads the world in smartphone growth. It saw a 55% increase in the number of smartphones in 2014. The number of Web users increased by 37%. Smartphones were the source of 65% of its Internet traffic and 41% of its e-commerce, according to a report by the analyst Mary Meeker, titled “Internet Trends 2015”.
India’s Internet boom has started. Within three or four years, almost every adult in India will own a smartphone. They will be used to order goods, read news, monitor crop growth and so on.
Indian adults will be very interested in these devices just as young Americans are. 87% of Americans between the ages of 18 and 34 who own smartphones say they never separate from these: “My smartphone never leaves my side.” Four out of five say that the first thing they do on waking is to reach for their smartphones. And three fifths believe that in the next five years everything will be done on mobile devices.
In the business world, the rise of mobile platforms is dramatically transforming many industries all over the world. What Indian software developers have to do is to start thinking about solutions to old problems by using all the features of these new devices. They need to take advantage of the unique properties of smartphones and tablets. As Indian software developers and enterprises master the smartphone, they will be able to export their solutions to the rest of the world.

Are you an early riser or a night owl? Researchers from Aachen University in Germany believe that about 10 percent of people can be classified as “morning people”, who feel more active and function best in the morning.Around 20 percent are night owls—people who naturally tend to stay up late and are more tired during the day.And the rest of us fall somewhere in between, according to New Scientist.
Previous studies have suggested that early risers are more likely to be happy and healthy while night owls experience worse sleep as well as more depression and anxiety during the day.
For a long time, scientists have been trying to find out what causes the differences between the two.A new study suggests that it isn’t just people’s habits—early risers and night owls actually have different brain structures.
Led by Jessica Rosenberg at Aachen University, researchers scanned the brains of 16 early risers, 23 night owls and 20 people with intermediate sleeping hours. They found that the brains of night owls had less “white matter”—which speeds up the transmission(傳輸) of nerve signals — in brain areas associated with depression.
As you know, after people fly in an airplane from one time zone to another, they often suffer from a confused and tired feeling called “jet lag” because their body clocks are out of sync(不同步的) with the new time zone.It usually takes about a week for their bodies to adjust to the new time. But night owls always have difficulty syncing their bodies to the right time due to their brain structure.“It’s like they suffer from permanent jet lag,” said Rosenberg.
The good news is that it is possible for night owls to turn themselves into morning people.According to the researchers, night owls should try to spend as much time in the sunlight as possible and reduce their exposure to artificial light at night to force their body clocks to shift to a more normal rhythm.
1.What does the article mainly discuss?
A.How to turn early risers into night owls.

A.make up almost a third of the human population
B.have more white matter in their brains than other people
C.a(chǎn)re more used to artificial night than sunlight
D.have body clocks that are not in agreement with the actual time
3.Jessica Rosenberg’s research suggests that ________.
A.previous studies about night owls are wrong
B.night owls are affected by jet lag more strongly than others
C.white matter helps our brains work more efficiently
D.brain structure might determine people’s chances of suffering from depression
4.According to the last paragraph, ________.
A.night owls have to give up their unhealthy life habits
B.night owls can learn to adjust their body clocks
C.there is little we can do to ease the trouble of night owls

A handsome man can earn a fifth more than an average-looking colleague but a beautiful woman is not paid a penny more than her average-looking colleague, new research has shown.
The study by senior economists(經(jīng)濟(jì)學(xué)家)found that being good-looking meant male workers could earn 22 percent more than average-looking colleagues. Researchers said good looks did not give women a similar advantage.
Andrew Leigh, a former economics professor at the Australian National University who co-authored the report, said: “Beauty can be a double-edged sword for women.”
“Some people still believe good looks and intelligence are incompatible(矛盾的) in women, so a good-looking women can’t be that productive, but it doesn’t affect men’s pay.”
He said that although he believed good-looking women may also earn more, the research did not support his theory.
The research found that handsome men in all jobs, from manual labour(手工勞動(dòng))to highly-paid professional careers, can earn 22 percent more than their colleagues doing the same work.
Men with below-average looks face a battle in the office, with ugliness reducing a man’s earnings by 26 percent compared to an average-looking worker.
Former male model, Caitlan Mitchell, 28, who has a first class degree in history from Edinburgh University and now works for a cosmetics company, told the Sunday Times:’ It gives you confidence, and I suspect people tend to warm to you more quickly.”
The study, named Unpacking the Beauty Premium, was the largest exercise of its kind and repeated a survey from 1984 to see if the beauty premium(美貌溢價(jià)) had changed.
Leigh said the research showed people in the workplace were “l(fā)ookist(以貌取人的)”and he hoped the findings would encourage employers to remove their prejudice.
1.What has the research found?
A. Male workers pay more attention to their appearance.
B. Handsome men have an advantage in their jobs.
C. Appearance plays an important role at work.
D. The more beautiful a female is, the lower their intelligence is.

A. Beauty is a double-edged sword for workers.
B. Gook-looking females are likely to earn more.
C. Employers have prejudice in employing workers.
D. More attention is paid to appearance now than before.
3.We can learn from the text that men who are below average in appearance ________.
A. earn 26%less than handsome men
B. earn 22% less than average-looking men
C. earn as much as average-looking men
D. earn 26% less than average-looking men
4.What is the main idea of the text?
A. Employees should pay more attention to their appearance.
B. Males and females should be treated equally in interviews.
C. Good-looking men tend to earn more.
D. Beautiful female interviewees aren’t popular in interviews.
