The Winner's Guide to Success

Do you know what makes people successful? To find out the answers, an American reporter recently visited some of the most successful people around the world.1

●Be responsible for yourself.

Sometimes you may want to blame others for your failure to get ahead. In fact, when you say someone or something apart from yourself is stopping you from making success, you're giving away your own power.2

●Write a plan.

It is very difficult to try to get what you want without a good plan. It is just like trying to drive through strange roads to a city far away.3Without this "map", you may waste your time, money and also your energy; while with the "map", you'll enjoy the "trip" and get what you want in the shortest possible time.

4

Nothing great is easy to get. So you must be ready to work hard—even harder than you have ever done. If you are not willing to pay the price, you won't get anything valuable.

●Never give up.

5When you are doing something, you must tell yourself again and again: Giving up is worse than failure because failure can be the mother of success, but giving up means the death of hope.

A. A good plan is like a map to you.

B. It seems to us that everyone knows this, but it is easier said than done.

C. Some people achieve success much later in life because they didn't work hard earlier.

D. You're saying, "You have more control over my life than I do."

E. Here are some keys to success that they give.

F. Someone else's opinion of you doesn't have to become your reality.

G. Be willing to pay the price.

Here are some keys to success that they give.

2細(xì)節(jié)理解題,該語段“Sometimes you may want to blame others for your failure to get ahead. In fact, when you say someone or something apart from yourself is stopping you from making success, you're giving away your own power”主要論述了有時你可能會首當(dāng)其沖的將失敗歸咎于他人,實際上當(dāng)你抱怨自己是由于外部原因而沒有成功的時候,那時你就會喪失自己的力量。 D“You're saying, "You have more control over my life than I do."”

在本題中,問題部分的下文“Without this "map", you may waste your time, money and also your energy; while with the "map", you'll enjoy the "trip" and get what you want in the shortest possible time.”意為沒有這個地圖你可能會浪費你的時間,金錢還有你的能量,因而問題處的內(nèi)容應(yīng)當(dāng)和map有一定關(guān)聯(lián),綜合下列選項,發(fā)現(xiàn)A選項“ A good plan is like a map to you.”

結(jié)合下列選項,G選項“Be willing to pay the price.”

以及下文中的“When you are doing something, you must tell yourself again and again: Giving up is worse than failure because failure can be the mother of success, but giving up means the death of hope.”當(dāng)你做事的時候,應(yīng)該時刻告誡自己永遠(yuǎn)都不要放棄,將B選項“ It seems to us that everyone knows this, but it is easier said than done”“似乎每個人都懂這個道理,但做起來要比說起來要難得多。

Getting ripped off from time to time is just part of traveling---don’t let it ruin your day or your overall experience. But there are things you can do to avoid some of the most common rip-offs. Let me share my travel tips for how to avoid hidden fees, disappointed experiences and overpriced items.

Baggage Fees

Depending upon the airline, you can pay $15 to $75 for the first checked bag, and more for overweight bags. When possible, pack a bag lightly enough to a carry-on or fly airlines that still allow free checked bags(two bags for Southwest and one for JetBlue). Many airline programs allow members with a high status to have a free checked bag, so check your status.

Overpriced Hotel and Airport Food

To avoid the overpriced water sold at airports, bring an empty water bottle with you through security at the airport. Then, fill it up at a water fountain or ask a waiter at a coffee shop to fill it up for you. Pick up some snacks at a local corner store instead of hitting the hotel room mini bar, which can lead to expensive surprises on your final bill.

Tourist Trap Restaurants

If you’re visiting a restaurant or attraction that has online presence, Google it or search it on Yelp to see what the locals say about it and to find any available coupons(優(yōu)惠券) that might get some extra savings. Often restaurants run deals on Yelp where if you “check in” at that restaurant and review it, you get a free dessert or 15% off the total bill, etc. By researching online, you’ll not only see whether there are any coupons or extra savings available, but people will tell you if the chef changed a month ago and the food is awful now.

1To have a free checked bag, you shall not_______.

A. take a light carry-on B. have a high status

C. take overweight bags D. choose Southwest Airlines

2If you want to drink free water at an airport, you can______.

A. take a bottle of water through security

B. go to a water fountain

C. go to a store at the airport

D. order a coffee at a coffee shop

3The passage is probably written by______.

A. a travel agent

B. an economical person

C. an experienced traveler

D. a skilled net-worker

It never occurred to anybody, not even the creators that the world would care about the complex lives, loves and sufferings of a group of attractive and witty New Yorkers. But there’s no doubt that Friends(老友記) has become more than just a successful situation comedy—it has established itself as one of the last great television phenomena of the last century. Along the way, it has made its half-dozen leading actors famous.

Looking back on the strong friendship between the group of three men and three women who frequently gather at each other’s apartments and at Greenwich Village’s Central Perk coffee house, Friends was created by television producers, David Crane and Marta Kauffman. In 1993, the pair met producer Kevin S. Bright. Then the three became partners and got a deal to produce a new comedy for Warner Brothers. What they came up with was based on Crane and Kauffman’s after-college years, when they hung out at the local coffee house and involved themselves in every aspect of each other’s lives.

It didn’t take long for viewers to make friends with Friends. The situation comedy quickly became a top ten hit. Critics loved it as well. Entertainment Weekly said the show operated like a Broadway show, with twisty plots and unique jokes. The television theme song has also been a success with the public. The song’s success helped save the television theme song. An ABC(美國廣播公司) executive was ready to order very short music intros(前奏) on his network’s shows, thinking that viewers would hit the remote control as soon as the opening started. But the success of the Friends theme song led the ABC executive to change his mindremote controls or not, the TV theme song would stay.

Years have gone by, but Friends remains and will remain an example of a modern US situation comedy that is both hugely entertaining television and nothing short of a genuine latter-day social phenomenon.

【3】What can we learn from the passage?

A. The ABC executive thought highly of the theme song of Friends.

B. Producer, Kevin S. Bright, graduated from the same college as David Crane.

C. ABC once replaced the theme song of its TV show with a short music intro.

D. Marta Kauffman expected Friends to achieve great success.

【4】What might the author think of Friends?

A. Its merits outweigh its shortcomings.

B. He/she shows great affection towards it.

C. Its success lies in the lack of good situation comedies.
