My father has a real neat vegetable garden. Every year he planted different kinds of vegetables for us to eating. Last year his corn were ten feet high and his tomato plants grew five feet high! I often help with him in the garden. We dig the hard ground in early spring, sow rows of seeds, and keep them water and safe from insects. When harvest time arrives, they happily pick the vegetables we have grown. We usually have too much vegetables in August. As result, my mother will freeze some for the winter month from December to March.

1.real→really

2. planted→plants

3. eating→eat

4. (corn) were→was

5.(help)刪掉with

6. water→watered

7. they(happily) →we

8. much—many

9. As后加a

10. month→months

由every year并結(jié)合上文has可推斷,句子使用一般現(xiàn)在時,主語是he,故將 planted改為plants。

for sb. to do sth.

由last year可知,句子使用一般過去時,主語是corn,故將 were改為was。

vegetables是可數(shù)名詞的復(fù)數(shù)形式,應(yīng)由many修飾,故將 much改為many。

as a result:結(jié)果……。故在As后加a。

A child who suffers bullying(霸凌) usually has low self-esteem and their ability to learn and be successful at school is greatly lessened. Therefore, bullying must be stopped.

The best and most obvious way to stop bullying in schools is for parents to change the way they raise their children at home. Of course, this is much easier said than done and everyone raises their children differently. Bullies, however, come from homes where physical punishment is used and children have been taught that physical violence is the way to handle problems and “get their way”. Bullies usually also come from homes where the parents fight a lot, so children have been modeled on such violence. Parental involvement is often lacking in bullies’ lives and there seems to be little warmth.

Early intervention (干預(yù)) is truly the best way to stop bullying, but parents of the victims or therapists(治療師) can’t alter the bully’s home environment. Some things can be done at the school level, however. Most school programs that address bullying apply a multi-faceted(多層面的) method to the problem.

Hand out questionnaires to all students and teachers and discuss if bullying is occurring. Define exactly what constitutes(構(gòu)成) bullying at school. The questionnaire is a wonderful tool that allows the school to see how widespread bullying is and what forms it is taking. It is a good way to start to solve the problem.

Get the children’s parents involved in a bullying program. If parents of the bullies and the victims are not aware of what is going on at school, then the whole bullying program will not be effective. Stopping bullying in school takes teamwork and concentrated effort on everyone’s part. Bullying also should be discussed during parent-teacher conferences and PTA meetings. Parental awareness is the key.

In the classroom setting, all teachers should work with the students on bullying. Oftentimes even the teacher is being bullied in the classroom and a program should be set up to teach about bullying. Children understand modeling behaviors and role-play and acting out bullying situations is a very effective tool. Have students role-play a bullying situation.

1In the author’s opinion, bullies usually _____________.

A.have extremely high self-esteem

B.know little of the harm of violence

B.let parents know their children are bullies

C.find the key to improving security at school

D.make parents conscious of bullying at school

4What is the passage mainly about?

A.How to stop bullying in school.B.What leads to violence in schools.

If you follow any people who like traveling on Instagram, you’ve probably noticed they’ve posted amazing photos from Portugal in the last few years, especially during peak summer months. Mario Fernandes, a co-creator and the editor of Golisbon said he had seen increased interest in traveling to Portugal in the past five years, particularly in the last two or three. Cindy Goldberger, a travel adviser for Hiatus, an agency in Brooklyn, New York, said that she noticed an increase in Portugal trips about three years ago and that she gets more requests to plan people’s visits there every year. According to Reuters, the number of foreign tourists visiting Portugal hit a record for 2017, and in the same year the country won the world’s leading destination at the World Travel Awards.

Fernandes suggested it’s because Portugal is safe and more affordable than many other Western European countries. The country’s frequent sunshine is also attractive to many visitors. The Algarve, the southernmost area of Portugal, is home to “some of Europe’s most beautiful beaches,” according to Fenandes. Goldberger noted that many airlines have offered better routes to the country in recent years. She’s also a fan of the new hotels that have opened, including farms that have become hotels.

Eric Hrubant, the president of Cire Travel, noted that there is another reason. “It’s a small country, yet you have cities with rich history, culture and food, as well as a lot of beach and golfing options,” he said. “In five to 10 days, you can have a vacation or honeymoon that caters to all of your senses and desires.”

The Dangers of Binge-Watching

The common use of Tik Tok and many other streaming services has created a new problem in today's society: binge-watching. This allows teens to spend huge amounts of time watching shows without a break. Some teens even spend the entire weekend glued to the screens. 1 When it becomes a regular habit, however, binge-watching can really create some problems.

If teens regularly head for their devices for binge-watching , they are more likely to experience loneliness and depression. It makes sense. Lonely or depressed teens will turn to mindless bing-watching to get their attention off those negative feelings. However, it doesn't really fix anything. It is a temporary band-aid that covers the real problem. 2

The shows teens watch tend to directly affect their minds. Therefore, negative shows, or those with negative portrayals(描繪)of the world around them, can increase feelings of negativity and depression.3Too many shows are filled with model-thin individuals who are still complaining that they don't look good in their clothes. This can lead a young girl to worry about her physical appearance.

Some teens don't have the self-control to their binge-watching habits on their own. 4 Parents need to be aware of how much time their teens are spending on their devices. Setting limits on screen-time can be easy to accomplish with a good parental control software.

Having regular conversations with your teens about this behavior is critical. Encourage them to tell you why they are binge-watching, what they're watching, and how they're feeling to help them develop healthier viewing habits. 5 By doing so parents have set a clear line that displays when binge-watching has to stop.

A.Worse still, it can merely cause the sense of loneliness to build up.

B.Sure, the occasional binge-watching doesn't sound too bad.

C.For this reason, what parents can do with the situation is critical.

D.They spend more time with screens than with their peers or parents.

E.Parents can also help schedule other activities to fill up the day.

F.Even body image can be linked to the shows that teens watch.

G.Instead, they can simply sit there, staring at the screen and no more effort is needed.
