Those accustomed to browsing through thousands of books in large bookstores may find Japan’s Morioka Shoten a little strange. That’s because this tiny bookstore that is located in Ginza, Tokyo sells only a single book at a time.

Opened in May 2015, Morioka Shoten is the brainchild of Yoshiyuki Morioka. He began his career as a bookstore clerk in Tokyo’s Kanda district before branching out to open his own store. It was here while organizing book reading and signing that he realized that customers usually came into the store with one title in mind. Morioka began to wonder if a store could exist by selling multiple copies of just one single book. In November 2014, he partnered with Masamichi Toyama to establish a unique bookstore with the philosophy of “A Single Room with a Single Book”.

The selections that are picked by Morioka change weekly and vary widely to attract customers with different interests. Recent choices include The True Deceiver, an award-winning Swedish novel by Tove Jansson, Hans Andersen’s Fairy Tales, and a collection of Karl Blossfeldt’s photography of plants. Morioka has also selected books written by a famous Japanese author Mimei Ogawa.

To highlight his only offering, Morioka often uses clever tricks. For example, when selling a book about flowers, the storekeeper decorated his shop with the ones that had been mentioned in the book. He also encourages authors to hold talks and discussions so they can connect with customers. Morioka says his goal is for the customers to experience being inside a book, not just a bookstore.

Risky as the idea might seem, things appear to be going well. The storekeeper says he has sold over 2,100 books. Things can get better given that his bookstore is becoming increasingly popular not just among the locals but also visitors form other countries.

1.What inspired Morioka to open such a bookstore?

A. A Swedish novel.

B. His present partner.

2.Why is Morioka Shoten unique?

A. It is popular with foreigners.

B. It sells books of different topics.

C. It is decorated with colorful flowers.

D. It sells various copies of a book in a week.

3.Why does Morioka encourage authors to hold talks?

A. To introduce his bookstore.

B. To advocate his philosophy.

C. To make books better understood.

D. To help readers make more friends.

4.What’s the author’s opinion about the bookstore’s future?

A. Risky. B. Promising.

Since the first Earth Day in 1970, Americans have got a lot “greener” toward the environment. “We didn’t know at that time that there even was an environment, let alone that there was a problem with it,” says Bruce Anderson, president of Earth Day USA.

But what began as nothing important in public affairs has grown into a social movement. Business people, political leaders, university professors, and especially millions of grass-roots Americans are taking part in the movement. “The understanding has increased many, many times,” says Gaylord Nelson, the former governor from Wisconsin, who thought up the first Earth Day.

According to US government reports, emissions (排放) from cars and trucks have dropped from 10.3 million tons a year to 5.5 million tons. The number of cities producing CO beyond the standard has been reduced from 40 to 9. Although serious problems still remain and need to be dealt with, the world is a safer and healthier place. A kind of “green thinking” has become part of practices.

Great improvement has been achieved. In 1988 there were only 600 recycling programs; today in 1995 there are about 6,600. Advanced lights, motors, and building designs have helped save a lot of energy and therefore prevented pollution.

Twenty-five years ago, there were hardly any education programs for environment. Today, it’s hard to find a public school, university, or law school that does not have such a kind of program. “Until we do that, nothing else will change!” says Bruce Anderson.

1.According to Anderson, before 1970, Americans had little idea about _______.

A. the social movement B. recycling techniques

C. environmental problems D. the importance of Earth Day

2.Where does the support for environmental protection mainly come from?

A. The grass-roots level.

B. The business circle.

C. Government officials.

D. University professors.

3.What have Americans achieved in environmental protection?

A. They have cut car emissions to the lowest.

B. They have settled their environmental problems.

C. They have lowered their CO levels in forty cities.

D. They have reduced pollution through effective measures.

4.What is especially important for environmental protection according to the last paragraph?

A. Education. B. Planning.

C. Green living. D. CO reduction.

科目:高中英語 來源:2015-2016學(xué)年江西高安市高一下期末考試英語試卷(解析版) 題型:閱讀理解

The companies below offer student accommodation(住宿) all around London, no matter what university you are attending. And they limit the complications (復(fù)雜) that other rental companies can have (such as paying for heat and hot water, paying your rent yearly and so on).

CRM Students has 12 different properties (房產(chǎn)) to choose from in London with various size choices depending on your budget and requirements. Prices start from £ 140 per week.

International Students House is unique because they offer twin, triple and quad rooms, which means they are cheaper per week than others. Of course, you will be sharing your bedroom with up to three other people. Prices start from £ 78.4 per week.

Prodigy Living has several properties in London (most of which have just been decorated) and offers en-suite (套房) rooms in flats and one-bedroom flats. Prices start from £ 209 per week.

Scape Living has properties in Greenwich, Surrey and Shoreditch, with the latter two being new apartments as of 2015, which means they will be in pretty good condition. Prices start from £ 185 per week.

Unite Students offers student accommodation in various areas of London, from en-suite rooms to two-bedroom flats, with lots of sharing choices available. Prices start from £169 per week.

These student housing associations are the best I found on the Internet for cheap student accommodation in London; however, I am aware that new ones are appearing every day. For a full list of associations like these (but most are more expensive than those listed above), I recommend checking out UCL’s alternative accommodation page.

Note: Most rooms require a small deposit (押金), which is typically the same value as your weekly rental price ( for example, £ 200 per week =£ 200 deposit before you move in).

1.Why does the author recommend the companies above?

A.Because they offer all kinds of student accommodation.

B.Because they allow students to pay the rent weekly.

C.Because they mainly provide one-bedroom flats.

D.Because they avoid the need for students to pay extra for facilities (設(shè)施) in the room.

2.The rent of the houses that International Students House offers is cheaper than others because _________.

A.students have to share the bedrooms with others

B.students needn’t pay for heat and water

C.most of the houses have just been decorated

D.students don’t have the right to choose the room size

3.How much will you pay if you want to rent a new apartment?

A.At least £140 per week.

B.At least £ 78.40 per week.

C.At least £195 per week.

D.At least £ 185 per week.
