One of her colleagues needed a full-time 23 . “You planned to volunteer at the local hospital, why not volunteer to 24 Nick instead?” Then she told me that this six-year-old boy was not a 25 child.
Nick was a lovely little boy who suffered from many disorders. Normal day-care centres would not 26 him. As a baby, he had serious ear infections which left him with equilibrium (平衡) problems. Then I told her I was 31 for the job.
The day started at 7:00 a.m. Nick was my wake-up call! With so much energy and very little 32 , he was quite a mix.
In the park, when he saw all the other children play on the jungle gym and swings (秋千), the boy’s face 33 up — how he wished he belonged to the group of his age! You would think it would be 34 to get a child to go down a slide (滑梯). Believe me, it wasn’t! It took time, a lot of time. But with patience and support, Nick took one step up the slide each day. We worked together to face his 35 and gradually he got closer to taking the slide of his life.
Halfway through the summer, he 36 it to the top of the slide. With my arms 37 him tightly, we flew down the slide! I waited for his reaction. After realizing that he was safe and sound, he gave me a big 38 and asked, “May I go down again, alone?” I had never been happier in my life when I saw this little child climb the ladder and enjoy what other children 39 for granted. This 40 child taught me that being a nurse means respect, kindness and patience.

Knowing the best way to study will help you to be a better student. By using your time properly, you can do your homework more quickly. Learning to study is not difficult.
The first thing to remember is that you must be willing to learn. It doesn’t mean that you must always like the subject. It does mean, however, that you must be wil1ing to do whatever is necessary to learn. Try to understand why it is important and how it will help you now and later to do and learn other things. Knowing mathematics facts will be useful in your whole life. Knowing how to spell makes any kind of writing easier. Sometimes the subject that you think is going to be uninteresting will be exciting when you begin to work at it and understand it more clearly. Learning things can be fun if you are willing to work with them.
Here’s some advice for you: have a certain time each day and a quiet place with good lighting for study, so that you can concentrate on your study without interruptions(中斷); have everything ready before you sit down to study, a dictionary, paper, a pen and books; be sure you understand what you should learn before you start; read carefully and pay special attention to the most important things; when memorizing, first find out the main parts and then recite the whole thing; check your homework after you finish it; never forget the importance of review and preview.
Don’t try to spend a lot of time researching learning methods. There are many students who know many good learning methods but don’t study well. They forget that the most useful learning method is to study hard.

We would probably all be amazed if we watched a videotape of ourselves performing basically unconscious acts as we go about the business of the day. These unconscious acts consist of all the little personal habits that we don’t even think about, but definitely should. These are some of the things that present an image of who we are to others, and if we are careless in performing them, this image may well be other than we would like it to be.
Parents who insist that their children practice good manners and habits at home are doing them a great service, for these habits then become lifelong and the natural way they do things. It proves true that their unconscious actions will reflect a well-mannered person.
People who, for example, eat with both arms on the table at home will likely do so when out. Those who are lazy and slow in private will certainly be so in public. Children who are permitted to be disrespectful to their parents will follow suit with other adults, and will, most likely, become adults who are disrespectful of others. This is an area where the saying “practice makes perfect” may be applied.
There is an article about the actress, Audrey Hepburn, known for her beautiful carriage and posture. According to her biographer, her grandmother tied her neck to the back of her chair, at table, so that she would not drop down suddenly over her food, but rather would learn to put only small amounts of food on her spoon or fork and bring them to her mouth. This is a rather extreme “at home” method for the development of erect (直立的) posture, but it does illustrate the effectiveness of practicing good habits so that, when in public, they are instinctive.

A.Parents should be responsible for their children’s good habits. |
B.The actress is well known for her beautiful posture. |
C.We should always be aware of our manners. |

B.will probably change the habit when eating out with their relatives |
C.will feel embarrassed when having meals with so many strangers in public[來源:Z&xx&k.Com] |
D.will always put their arms on the table no matter where they eat |
A.the more practice one has, the better job he will do |
B.the more perfect one is, the more practice he needs |
C.if one has enough practice, he will become perfect |
D.perfect makes a person practice more |
A.If we are not careful about our unconscious acts, the images of ourselves presented to others will be quite undesirable. |
B.The good habits formed in one’s childhood will benefit him throughout his life. |
C.If parents do not care about the disrespectful attitude adopted by their children towards themselves, their children might be disrespectful of others. |
D.It is unlikely that a well-mannered person will not embarrass himself in public. |

ONE of the tough things about being a high school student is that you never seem to get enough sleep at night, which often leaves you nodding off during classes.
“The best amount of sleep to get is about seven and a half to eight hours,” Peter Venn at Queen Victoria Hospital, UK, told The Telegraph. Spending either less than six or more than nine hours in sleeping puts your health at risk.
A popular solution to a lack of sleep at night is to take a “power nap” during the day, but does this work?
Generally speaking, it can be beneficial. Research shows that a nap in the middle of the day ---even a brief one as short as five or 10 minutes ---can clear your mind and leave you with increased energy and improved productivity , according to Forbes.
However, as refreshing as it might be, if you are getting adequate sleep at night, taking a power nap isn’t such a wise choice. The reason is that sleeping during the day can interfere with your body’s biorhythms (生理節(jié)奏). The brain gets used to going to bed at roughly the same time each night and getting up at the same time each day, and you don’t want to disturb this routine.
One more thing to keep in mind is that a power nap should never be used as a replacement for a good night’s sleep. “Twenty minutes of power nap during the day is not like a tablet which will definitely work,” Rahul Mukherjee, an Indian sleep specialist, told The Telegraph. “An hour’s sleep before midnight is worth a couple of hours’ sleep after midnight.”
69. What is the healthiest amount of sleep for the majority of people according to the article?
A. About six or seven hours.
B. About seven and a half to eight hours.
C. About nine and a half to 10 hours.
D. About 10 hours.
70. Why can taking a power nap in the middle of the day be beneficial?
A. Because it takes little time but always works well.
B. Because it is good for our body’s biorhythms.
C. Because it refreshes people and thus improves their productivity.
D. Because it can be used as a replacement for a good night’s sleep.
71. Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the article?
A. The best time to take a power nap is after lunch.
B. The naps you take during the day are all considered to be “power naps”.
C. If you sleep well at night, it is unnecessary to take a power nap in the daytime.
D. The longer time you take a power nap, the more energetic you will feel when you wake up.
