注意:1. 每處錯(cuò)誤及其修改均僅限一詞;
A kind of little cars may someday take place of today’s big ones. If all the people who drive such cars in the future, there will be fewer pollution in the air. There will be more space for parking cars in cities. The streets will be less crowd. And driving will be safe as these little cars can go only 65 km per hour. The future cars will be fine for getting round a city, so they will not be useful for long trips. Little cars will go 200 km before needing to stop for more gases. If big cars are still used along with the small ones, two sets of roads will be needed in the future. Some roads will be used for the big fast cars and another roads will be needed for the slow small ones. It is said that three so little cars can fit in with the space now needed for one car of the usual size.
【答案】1.take后加the
2. 去掉who
3. fewer→less
4. crowd→crowed
5. safe→safer
6. so→but
7. gases→gas
8. another→other
9. so→such
10. in后面的with去掉
take the place of“取代”;take place“發(fā)生”。 故在take后加the。
根據(jù)后面的內(nèi)容可知,這種little cars不適合長(zhǎng)距離行駛,上下文是轉(zhuǎn)折關(guān)系,故把so改為but。

Ali is from a Middle Eastern country. He now stays in the USA. He smokes a lot of cigarettes every day. He has smoked for nine years. Ali says, “I tried to quit (放棄) smoking in my hometown, but it was impossible. My parents smoke. My brothers smoke. All my friends smoke. At parties and at meetings, almost all the men smoke. Here in the United States, not as many people smoke.”
Many smokers are like Ali: they want to stop smoking. They know it can cause cancer and heart disease. But it is difficult for them to give up smoking because cigarettes have a drug in them. The drug is nicotine. People who smoke a lot need nicotine.
The nicotine makes him sick. In a few days, the smoker's body is used to the nicotine, and he feels fine. Later, the smoker needs nicotine to keep feeling fine. Without nicotine, he feels bad.
Many people who quit will soon smoke again. At a party or at work they will decide to smoke “just one” cigarette. Then they will smoke another cigarette, and another. Soon they become smokers again.
A. It is very hard to quit smoking.
B. Thus nicotine makes smokers addicted to cigarettes.
C. It will be easier to change the smoking habit here.
D. But it is said that medicine is needed to stop them from smoking.
E. When a person first begins to smoke, he usually feels terrible.
F. Maybe there is only one easy way to quit smoking: never start.
G. The smokers know that smoking is bad for their health.

In early October, thousands of people around the globe stepped outside to gaze at their local night sky. As part of an event called the Great World Wide Star Count, adults and kids looked for one of two constellations (星座) — Cygnus in the Northern Hemisphere and Sagittarius in the Southern Hemisphere. The observers recorded how many stars they saw and how bright the stars were, and then posted their results online.
The Star Count was part of a global effort to help scientists learn more about how light pollution affects our view of the night sky. Whether participants saw thousands of stars — or just a dozen — depended a lot on whether they were surrounded by darkness or by twinkling city lights.
On a clear night, with no clouds, moonlight, or artificial lights to block the view, people can see more than 14,000 stars in the sky, but when people are surrounded by city lights they're lucky to see 150 stars.
If you've ever driven toward a big city at night and seen its glow from afar, you've witnessed light pollution. It occurs when light from streetlights, office buildings, signs, and other sources streams into space and illuminates the night sky. This light makes many stars invisible to people on earth.
Dust and particles of pollution from factories and industries worsen the effects of light pollution. When these particles float into the atmosphere, light ricochets (跳飛) off of them and scatters even more.
Light pollution doesn't only affect star visibility. It can harm wildlife too. Scientists don't entirely understand how animals navigate at night, but it's clear that artificial light can attract them, making them go off course. There's increasing evidence, for example, that migrating birds use sunsets and sunrises to help find their way.
(1)Why do many people look at the local sky?
A.To enjoy the beauty of the stars.
B.To develop their interest in Astronomy.
C.To help scientists do a research on light pollution.
D.To get the exact number of stars in the sky.
(2)When people are surrounded by artificial lights, ________.
A.they can find more stars in the sky
B.the stars might appear more clearly
C.the stars seem to be bigger
D.they can find far fewer stars
(3)The following things make light pollution worse EXCEPT ________.
A.artificial lights
B.stars
C.dust
D.particles
(4)How does light pollution affect birds?
A.It does great harm to their eyes at night.
B.It misleads them the way when they migrate.
C.It can enable them to see their routes clearly.
D.It can make them find their way easily.

A new camera made by a company named Netatmo has facial recognition software(識(shí)別系統(tǒng))that can tell parents at work that their children have returned from school, or that a package has been taken to their home. It can also tell them if a stranger has entered their home.
Janina Mattausch is a product marketing manager for Netatmo.
“The common security(安全)cameras at present are not that smart. So, they can tell you if something is moving but they don't necessarily know if it's a human being or, ah, if it's your kids—they don't' know the difference, so they will warn you all the time.”
When family members enter a home, the new camera "recognizes" (識(shí)別 ) them and sends information to the owner's smartphone. The owner can choose to see the video then or later. But if an unknown person enters a home, the camera will send the owner a warning that will cause an alarm to sound on the owner's smartphone.
That is what happened recently to a smart home camera owner named Darrmen. He lives in Paris.
"On a Friday I was at work, attending a big monthly meeting when my phone warned. At first I told myself 'Oh, it must be a mistake, maybe I have to set the system again. “But the notice on my phone was telling me that there was a movement in my flat and also a face that the software did not recognize.”
He watched the video and was very surprised by what he saw.
"I saw a person I did not know with his shoes on. I was watching it live on video. So I felt totally unbelievable, frozen. I asked a workmate to take me back home as fast as possible and I called the police on the way. "
With the help of the video, the police found the intruder (闖入者) later that day.
