2.We usually believe what our brain tells us,but there is some amazing evidence which shows that the brain tricks us.As a result,we can ignore things that actually are there.Psychologists Daniel Simons and Christopher Chabris have researched this phenomenon, which they call'change blindness'.
The′Invisible Gorilla(看不見的大猩猩)experiment is probably their most famous one,and it is described in many psychology textbooks. In this experiment, the participants were shown a video of two groups of people (one group in white T-shirts and the other group in black T shirts)who passed basketballs around in a hall.Simons and Chabris asked people to count how many times the white team passed the ball. While the two teams were passing their balls around,a person who was dressed up as a gorilla walked through the group and stopped to look at the camera.Simons and Chabris found that about half of the research participants did not notice the gorilla.
Simons and Daniel Levin did another experiment, called the'Door Study'.Participants in this study were walking across a university campus(校園)when they were stopped by someone they didn't know. The stranger asked for directions and the participant started to give the directions. While the participant was talking to the stranger, two men who were carrying a wooden door talked between the participant and the stranger. At this point, the stranger swapped places with one of the men carrying the door. After that, the participant continued to give the directions.Once again, about half of those tested did not notice that, when the door as passing by,the stranger had changed places with a man who as taller, thinner and who sounded different.
It just goes to show how we can't always trust our own rains.Even though we may think we know what is going on,we can be blind to large changes in our environment.

A.The number of people in the hall.
B.The clothes people were wearing.
C.The number of basketballs in the hall.

A.Whether people could find the correct directions in a strange place.
B.Whether people were patient to offer help after an interruption.
C.Whether people noticed they were talking to different people.
D.Whether people judged others sound.by their appearance and sound.
30.Why do people sometimes ignore what's before their eyes?A
A.They are concentrating on something else.
B.They don't trust their own brains.
C.They have very bad eyesight.
D.They aren't interested in it.
31.Where does this text probably come from?C

30.A.推理判斷題.根據(jù)While the two teams were passing their balls around,a person who was dressed up as a gorilla walked through the group and stopped to look at the camera.Simons and Chabris found that about half of the research participants did not notice the gorilla.以及文章內(nèi)容可以推斷出,人們忽視眼前的事是因為專注于一些事.故選A.

17.College helps students dream of more than a salary
From the earliest days of our country,we have seen education as the foundation for democracy and citizenship.Yet high school students and families are increasingly questioning its value.Is investing in a college or university education still worth it?The answer is definitely"Yes".
From a financial point of view,a college education surely pays off.Students who graduate from college can expect to make about 60% more than those who do not,well over a million dollars over a lifetime.Completing college makes an even greater difference to the earning power of young women.A 25-34 year-old female with a bachelor's degree can expect to make 70% more than if she had only completed her high school diploma.But what about the benefits of college that are more difficult to measure?
College is a passport to different places,different times,and different ways of thinking-from learning new languages to considering the arc of human history to diving deep into the building blocks of matter.It gives students a chance to understand themselves differently,seeing how their lives are both like and unlike those who inhabited other eras and other lands.
College introduces students to people they've never met before.One of the most important ways in which students learn at college is by interacting with people who are different from themselves.I recall one student who was admitted to Harvard but wasn't sure he would fit in at a school in the Northeast.However,one night he found himself debating the characteristics that define a genuine hero with other admitted students from around the world.Not everyone agreed,but the differences were what made the conversation exciting,and he realized how much he could learn at a place full of engaging people with a wide range of viewpoints.
College teaches students the virtue of slowing down.No one denies the value of speed,connectivity and the virtual world in an economy that thrives on all three.But"thinking"is a word that is too often forgotten.College teaches students to slow down,to change information into insight and knowing into understanding.It nurtures critical thinking.The result is that students grow in knowledge and in wisdom for a lifetime.
To conclude,investing in a college or university education is well worth it.College opens opportunities reflected in earning and employment statistics.But more importantly,in college students have acquired a new way of transforming the world,through the power of learning,analyzing,changing to adapt to what they have come to understand.
College helps students dream of more than a salary.

科目:高中英語 來源:廣西桂林市2016-2017學(xué)年高二下學(xué)期期中質(zhì)量檢測英語試卷 題型:閱讀理解

Sports are the base of my life, next to my mother who raised me when my dad left us. I have been into sports since I was six years old. I have known many coaches and heard hundreds of their tips, but they usually focused on drills to develop my skills and reach the next level of play.

When I was in Senior Two, I met the new school basketball coach, Brian Pawloski. I thought I was certain to be selected for the school team since I had been in it the year before. I showed up to the tryouts (選拔賽) and put out about 90% effort since I thought I’d make it with no problem. That was a big mistake.

Brian Pawloski is the hardest-working coach I have ever met. He didn’t expect 100% effort, he expected 200% effort. One example: he once made us do 40 suicide drills for the 40 lay-ups (投籃) we missed in a game. Some think this is crazy, but it isn’t. After this conditioning practice, as we were getting a cup of cold water to drink, I said, “Coach that was the best practice I ever had.” I was completely sincere. This man was and is the person who influenced me most at my high school. He expects us to be excellent not just on the court but in the classroom. If I am not working on basketball, I am reading a book that he thinks will help us better understand life’s challenges, including Wooden, Coach, and The Screwtape Letters.

In the first two years I slacked off, not putting forth my full potential. Now, unlike the coaches of my youth, this man was interested in how he did off the court. He always made sure I kept up with my studies and was able to be trusted. I can honestly say that no other coach has given me so much advice on how to succeed in basketball, but more importantly, in life. My school is lucky to have such a great person to teach, coach and influence their students. I will always remember my high-school basketball days as one of the hardest times I have ever worked in my life not only in basketball but in my growth as an individual.

1.Different from other coaches, Coach Brian ________.

A. trained the team to the edge of death

B. expected the team to do well in their studies

C. asked the team to do more reading than training

D. concentrated on skill training

2.The underlined phrase “slacked off” in the last paragraph probably means ________.

A. made less effort B. paid no attention

C. showed no interest D. had less passion

3.In the author’s eye, Coach Brian is ________.

C. hardworking and honest D. strict and helpful
