I will never forget the year I was about twelve years old. My mother told us that we would not be  36  Christmas gifts because there was not enough money. I felt sad and thought, “What would I say when the other kids asked what I’d  37  ?” Just when I started to  38  that there would not be a Christmas that year, three women  39  at our house with gifts for all of us. For me they brought a doll. I felt such a sense of   40  that I would no longer have to be embarrassed when I returned to school. I wasn’t  41 . Somebody had thought  42  of me to bring me a gift.

Years later, when I stood in the kitchen of my new house, thinking how I wanted to make my  43  Christmas there special and memorable, I  44   remembered the women’s visit. I decided that I wanted to create that same feeling of  45  for as many children as I could possibly reach.

So I  46  a plan and gathered forty people from my company to help. We gathered about 125 orphans(孤兒) at the Christmas party. For every child, we wrapped colorful packages filled with toys, clothes, and school supplies,  47   with a child’s name. We wanted all of them to know they were  48 . Before I called out their names and handed them their gifts. I  49  them that they couldn’t open their presents  50 every child had come forward. Finally the  51 they had been waiting for came as I called out, “One, two, three . Open your presents!” As the children opened their packages, their faces beamed and their bright smiles  52  up the room. The  53  in the room was obvious, and  54  wasn’t just about toys. It was a feeling—the feeling I knew  55  that Christmas so long ago when the women came to visit. I wasn’t forgotten. Somebody thought of me. I matter.

Among the lesson I had in my schooldays, the one given by an American is the most unforgettably. One morning, our teacher told us he had been invited an American to give us a lesson. Then a man came in. He introduced himself with English and began his class. It was different from those classes they had before. He told many funny jokes, teaching us English songs and helped us act out dialogues. He neither taught us English grammar or asked us to do written exercises. He was not serious and was always smiling us. Time went quickly and after we knew it, the class was over. I will never forget his smile and everything he does in class.

Everyone wants to win a first-place blue ribbon, to be the best in something. Even kids in Kindergarten want that blue ribbon. In sports, I was never a blue-ribbon person. In a race, I was always  36 . In baseball I was likely to be  37  on the head or drop the ball. During the spring of my kindergarten year, our class had a field trip to a park in a town about twenty miles away. Making that drive now is no big  38  but when you’re six and you’ve lived in a town of 300 people all your life, going to a big town of a couple of thousand people is really something.
I don’t remember too much about it. But there was one that I will never forget —the __39__ race. The parents tied our feet together. One little boy got me for a  40  . He was the second most   41 boy in our class so he usually won at everything and I knew that with me tied to him he didn’t have a chance. And I’m sure he knew he was in trouble. The gun sounded and we were off. Some couples were falling and stumbling all around us,  42   we stayed on our feet and made it to the other side.  43  , when we turned around and headed back for home, we were in the lead! Only one couple had a chance to win, and they were a good several yards behind us.
A few feet from the finish line, disaster struck: I tripped and fell. We were   44  enough that my partner could have easily dragged me across the finish line and won. But he didn’t. Instead he stopped,   45   down and helped me up — just at the other couple crossed the finish line. As a result, we received a small red ribbon for coming in second.
I still remember that moment when the young boy decided that helping a friend get on her feet was more important than winning a blue ribbon. And 13 years later, I still have that little ribbon because it’s a   46   that a friend like this boy is one who really   47  .

March 22nd, Tuesday

I watch TV until nearly 12 o’clock, so I could not go over my lessons. This morning I got up very late that I had to hurry to school without breakfast. Yet I was late for the first class. When I entered the classroom, the maths teacher also had to stop explaining an important problem, and all the eyes fixed upon me. My face turned red. Something even bad happened on me in the English class. The teacher asked me to recite the text, but I could speak nothing but sorry, because I did not spend any times preparing my lessons. The teacher looked at me coldly. I stood at my bench, not dare to raise my head. What a terrible day I had! I will never do something like this again.
