Ebola is a dangerous virus that can cause people to get very sick and even die. The virus is causing the biggest problems in western Africa, where it has spread quickly. But it can get worse and cause life-threatening symptoms(癥狀), such as bleeding and trouble breathing.

Ebola does not spread like colds or the flu because it does not float through the air. Ebola also doesn't spread through food or water, like some other viruses. Instead, Ebola spreads when someone touches the body fluids(液體) of a sick person.

An outbreak is when many people are getting sick with the same illness around the same time. You may have heard of a flu outbreak, which is when lots of people get sick from the same types of flu virus. When an outbreak happens because of a virus, more people could get sick because there is a lot of that virus around.
Where did Ebola come from?
Scientists aren't sure how the first person gets Ebola at the start. Tropical animals in Africa believed to carry the virus include great apes, chimpanzees, gorillas, monkeys, fruit bats, porcupines, and forest antelopes.
What do kids need to do about Ebola?
Ebola is making many people sick in Africa, but no matter where you live, it's always a good idea to wash your hands well and often.
A. How do people catch Ebola?
B. But they think that people may pick up the virus by touching or eating infected animals.
C. Why do I need to wash my hands?
D. It's very important that infected people get treatment right away.
E. Ebola symptoms can start with fever and headache, kind of like the flu.
F. What is an outbreak?
G. Keeping hands clean can help protect you from common illnesses like colds and the flu.

【題目】根據(jù)短文理解,選擇正確答案。
Malka and Shaindle are sisters. Although they live an hour's drive from each other and don't see each other often, they are in touch. Malka has a large family. Shaindle, however, has had difficulty having children.
Malka had just given birth to another son. Shaindle , married three years and still childless, was receiving fertility(生育) treatments. Involved with work, doctor's visits, and medical treats, she was unable to make the trip to visit her sister after she had given birth.
Malka knew her sister's problem and was quite understanding. Shaindle and her husband Feivel would be at the haptismal (洗禮) ceremony,of course.
On the day of the haptism, Shaindle and Feivel arrived early, earlier than Malka and her family. Malka's mother-in-law, Yehudit, was already at the hall. “Hello,” said Shaindle cheerfully, never thinking what was about to happen.
Yehudit turned to her angrily and said, “What a selfish sister you are! Never once did you see fit to visit Makla this entire week! No wonder you have no children!”
Shaindle went into shock at her words. She turned away, her eyes filled with tears. The accusation(控訴) had cut Shaindle like a knife. She was psychologically bleeding. Poor Shaindle couldn't calm down. It took a while before she could regain her calmness. She couldn't look at Yehudit; it was just too painful for her to do so.
The minute the words had escaped Yehudit's mouth, she knew she had crossed a red line. She had stepped on very raw toes and felt regretted for her words –but it was too late. Her attempts to apologize were ineffective. The celebration had suddenly turned sour in just a matter of seconds. After all these years, the memory of that happening lingers on …

【題目】根據(jù)短文理解,選擇正確答案。
Some time ago, I discovered a whole lot of antique(古董) shops near my home. So I left home one morning carrying the char that had a broken leg. I didn't think there would be any difficulty in getting it mended. I went into the first shop expecting a friendly reception. I was quite wrong. The man wouldn't even look at my chair.
The second shop, although slightly more polite, was just the same, and the third and the fourth — so I thought that my approach must be wrong.
I went into the fifth shop with a plan in my mind. I placed the chair on the floor and said to the shopkeeper, “Would you like to buy a chair?” He looked it over carefully and said, “Yes. How much do you want do it, sir?” “Twenty pounds,” I said. “Ok,” he said, “I'll give you twenty pounds.” “It has a slightly broken leg,” I said. “Yes, I saw that; it's nothing.”
Everything was going according to the plan and I was getting excited. “What will you do with it?” I asked. “Oh, it will be easy to sell once the repair is done.” “I'll buy it,” I said. “What do you mean? You've just sold it to me.” he said. “Yes, I know but I've changed my mind. I'm sorry. I'll give you twenty-seven pounds for it.” “You must be crazy,” he said. Then, suddenly the penny dropped. “I know what you want. You want me to repair your chair.” “You're right.” I said. “And what would you have done if I had walked in and said, ‘Would you mend this chair for me?'” “I wouldn't have agreed to do it,” he said. “We don't do repairs, not enough in it and too much trouble. But I'll mend this for you, shall we say for five pounds?” He was a very nice man and was greatly amused by the whole thing.
(1)We can learn from the text that in the first shop the writer ________.
A.was rather impolite
B.was warmly welcomed
C.asked the shopkeeper to buy his chair
D.asked the shopkeeper to repair his chair
(2)Why did the writer said “Would you like to buy a chair?” in the fifth shop?
A.He was sure that he won't be able to have the chair repaired.
B.He wanted to make some money by selling the chair.
C.He had a plan in mind about how to get his chair mended.
D.He planned to get a new chair after selling the broken one.
(3)The expression “the penny dropped” in the last paragraph means the shopkeeper ________.
A.changed his mind
B.accepted the offer
C.saw the writer's purpose
D.decided to help the writer
(4)How much will the writer pay?
A.5
B.7
C.20
D.27

If anyone had told me three years ago that I would be spending most of my weekends camping. I would have laughed heartily. Campers, in my eyes, were people who enjoyed insects bites, ill-cooked meals, and uncomfortable sleeping bags. They had nothing in common with me. The friends who introduced me to camping thought that it meant to be a pioneer.

We sleep in a tent, cooked over an open fire, and walked a long distance to take the shower and use the bathroom. This brief visit with Mother Nature cost me two days off from work, recovering from a bad case of sunburn and the doctor`s bill for my son`s food poisoning.

I was, nevertheless, talked into going on another fun-filled holiday in the wilderness. Instead, we had a pop-up camper with comfortable beds and an air conditioner. My nature-loving friends had remembered to bring all the necessities of life.

We have done a lot of it since. Recently, we bought a twenty-eight-foot travel trailer complete with a bathroom and a built-in TV set. There is a separate bedroom, a modern kitchen with a refrigerator. The trailer even has matching carpet and curtains.

It must be true that sooner or later, everyone finds his or her way back to nature. I recommend that you find your way in style.

A.This time there was no tent.

B.Things are going to be improved.

C.The trip they took me on was a rough one.

D.I was to learn a lot about camping since then, however.

E.I must that I have certainly come to enjoy camping.

F. After the trip, my family became quite interested in camping.

G. There was no shade as the trees were no more than 3 feet tall.
