I’m from Detroit in the United States, and during his senior year in high school I win a scholarship to study the singing during the summer in London. When I went there,I stayed in someone’s home. The people were very sweetly, and it was a really fun summer.I got the inside view of that it’s like to live there.I loved it,but I have to say,one thing that surprising me was that you had to go to such many different stores to do your shopping. There are also a lot of differences in the language. They said thing like “ring you up” instead of “give you a call.” It took me a little while figure out these differences, because it was fun.

【答案】

(1)his→my

(2)win→won

(3)the去掉

(4)sweetly→sweet

(5)that→what

(6)surprising→surprised

(7)such→so

(8)thing→things

(9)while后面加to

(10)because→but

(5)that不能做of的賓語。

(6)surprising一般用來形容某事令人驚奇、令人詫異的,是形容詞;而這里是that引導(dǎo)的定語從句,謂語動詞應(yīng)該是surprised,即用surprise的過去式。

(7)so many是固定詞組,后面跟復(fù)數(shù)名詞,沒有such many這個詞組。

(8)根據(jù)語境,應(yīng)該是不只一件事,故要把thing改為復(fù)數(shù)形式。

(9)句意:這花了我一些時間去理解這些不同之處。It takes sb. + 時間段+ to do sth. 某事花費某人多久時間去做。

(10)前一句講了這花了我一些時間去理解這些不同之處,與本句句意這很有趣應(yīng)該是轉(zhuǎn)折關(guān)系,故把because改為but。

【題目】Most of us spend our lives seeking the natural world. We go fishing, sit in the garden, have a picnic, live in the suburbs or go to the seaside. The most popular leisure activity in Britain is going for a walk. When joggers jog, they don’t run the streets. Every one of them tend to go to the park or the river.

But despite this, our children are growing up nature deprived (剝奪). I spent my boyhood climbing trees. These days, children are robbed of these ancient freedoms, due to problems like crime, traffic, the loss of the open spaces and strange new ideas about what is best for children, that is to say, things that can be bought, rather than things that can be found.

The truth is to be found elsewhere. A study in the US: families had moved to better housing and the children were assessed for ADHD—attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (多動癥). Those whose accommodation had more natural views showed an improvement of 19%; those who had the same improvement in material surroundings but no nice view improved just 4%.

ADHD is one of the great problems of modern childhood. One study after another indicates that contact with nature gives huge benefits to ADHD children. However, we spend money on drugs rather than on green places.

The life of old people is measurably better when they have access to nature. The increasing concern for the growing population of old people is in quality rather than quantity of years. And study after study finds that a garden is the single most important thing in finding that quality. Even problems with crime and aggressive behavior are reduced when there is contact with the natural world.

We need the wild world. It is essential to our well-being, our health and our happiness.

【1】According to the author, people enjoy ________ to seek nature.

A. jogging on the street

B. sitting in the garden

C. shopping in the supermarket

D. running in the gym

2From the second paragraph, we can see that ________.

A. adults deprive the children of their rights to approach nature

B. climbing trees will certainly do good to the children

C. children probably spend less time in nature nowadays

D. children tend to be happier as a result of their material satisfaction

3In what way do people benefit from their contact with nature?

A. Children with ADHD can be cured.

B.A garden nearby improves the quality of old people’s life.

C. Problems with crime and violent behavior will easily be solved.

D. Children’s performance at school is greatly improved.

4What is the main idea of this passage?

A. Access to nature improves our life.

B. Nature treats children with ADHD.

C. Getting close to nature reduces crime.

D. Man can’t live without natural areas.

Johnson says Santa took the time to listen to Landon's worriesand held the boy's hands all the while.“Santa sat him next to him and took Landon's hands in his and started rubbing them, calming them down. Santa asked Landon if it bothered him, having Autism? Landon said yes, sometimes. Then Santa told him it shouldn't. It shouldn’t bother him to be who he is,” Johnson said.

Landon told Santa that he sometimes “ gets in trouble at school and it's hard for people to understand that he has autism",but that he's “not a naughty boy”.

“You know I love you and the reindeer (馴鹿) love you and it's OK. You're a good boy",Santa told WOOD-TV about the chat with Landon.'You're a good boy,you know.”

Johnson said she was incredibly moved by Santa's thoughtful words.“This stranger in a red suit told my son the same message I’ve been trying to get through to him for a while now that he's special and I love him just the way he was made",the mom told Today.com.“Seeing Landon's face light up in that moment was just incredible.I couldn't stop crying. He was the real Santa Claus.”
