Nowadays, some students would not like to live in a dormitory. Instead, they rented houses outside the school. There are advantages for them all. Living in a dormitory can increase friendship and cooperation among classmates, but of course it is safer. Besides, a dormitory is more like a society, where enables students to learn to get along with each other, thus preparing the social life later. As for renting houses to live lonely, it’s better for your study as you can feel freely in your own room without being interrupted by others. As a result, you can have a plenty of time to devote yourself to review your lessons wholeheartedly. But there may appear a few safety problem as you live outside the school. Anyhow as a student, I prefer living in a dormitory.

It is at this stage that you are likely to feel anxious homesick. 【3】 .
Culture shock doesn’t exist long. You gradually get into the‘recovery’ stage. At this point, you’ll have a routine, and you’ll feel less lonely as you start to understand and accept the way things are done and the way people behave in your new environment. Customs and traditions are clearer and easier to understand. 【4】
The last stage is the ‘home’ stage – this is the point when people start to feel at home in the new culture.

【題目】How can a creature weighing over 5 tons and normally taking 150 kilograms of food and 120 liters of water per day survive in a desert environment?
In the southwest African country of Namibia, and the Sahara lands of Mali further north, the desert elephant does just that.
Although not regarded as a separate species from the African elephant, the desert cousin differs in many ways. Their bodies are smaller, to absorb less heat, and their feet are larger for easier walking across sandy surfaces. They are taller, to reach higher branches. They have shorter tusks (象牙), and most importantly, longer trunks to dig for water in riverbeds.
Desert elephants can travel over 70 kilometers in search for feeding grounds and waterholes, and have a larger group of families. They drink only every 3-4 days, and can store water in a “bag” at the back of their throat, which is only used when badly needed. Desert elephants are careful feeders---they seldom root up trees and break fewer branches, and thus maintain what little food sources are available. Young elephants may even eat the dung (糞便) of the female leader of a group when facing food shortage. During drought they are unlikely to give birth to their young but with good rains the birthrate will increase greatly. Desert elephants have sand baths, sometimes adding their own urine (尿液) to make them muddy!
As we continue to overheat our weak planet, it can only be hoped that other animal species will adapt as extraordinarily well to change as the desert elephant.

A. rarely ruin trees
B. drink only every 3-4 days
C. search for food in large groups
D. protect food sources for their young
【3】The author answers the question raised in the first paragraph with _____.
A. stories and explanation
B. facts and descriptions
C. examples and conclusion
D. evidence and argument
【4】What can be inferred from the last sentence in the passage?
A. Overheating the earth can be stopped.

【題目】Lakes, ponds, and beaches mean summer fun and cool relaxation from hot weather. But water also can be dangerous for kids if you don't take great care.Nearly 1,000 kids die each year by drowning. Here are some tips to keep your kids safe in the water:
At the Lake or Pond
●Don't let little kids swim alone without adult supervision— lakes or ponds may be shallow near the bank and are suddenly deep sharply further out from shore.
●Ponds and lakes may hide sharp rocks, broken glass, or rubbish.
●Make sure kids wear foot protection; even in the water, they should wear socks or water shoes.
●Watch out for weeds and grass in the water that could trap a leg or arm.
●Most boating accidents, particularly among teenagers, are related to alcohol.Be sure teens know about the dangers of alcohol, on and off the water.
At the Beach
●Teach kids to always swim when and where a lifeguard is on duty.Unlike the calm waters of a swimming pool, the beach has special dangers like currents and tides.Check with the lifeguard when you arrive to find out about the water conditions.
●Tell kids never to stand with their back to the water because a sudden wave can easily knock a child over.
●Teach kids that if they're caught in a dangerous wave, they should swim to the shore or should tread water and call for a lifeguard's help.
Whether at the lake or at the beach, teach your child to get out of the water during bad weather, especially lightning.
