The city of the future
What will the city of the future look like? No one knows for sure, and making predictions (be) a risky business. But one thing is certain ---they are going to get bigger before they get smaller. We will use lots of (recycle) materials, such as plastic aluminums, steel , glass ,wood and paper, and we will waste fewer (nature) resources. We will also have to rely more alternative energy, such as solar and wind power.
A teacher at university in the United States asked his students to think they would run a city of 50,000 people in the year 2025. Here are some of the ideas they had:
Garbage ships To get rid of garbage problems, the city will load huge spaceships with waste materials and send them towards the sun, (prevent) landrills and environmental problems .
Cars All cars will be powered by electricity, solar energy or wind , andwill be possible to change the color of cars at the flick of a switch.
Telesurgery Distance surgery will become common as doctors carry out operations from thousands of miles away, with each city (have) its own telesurgery outpatient clinic.
Holiday at home Senior citizens and people with disabilities will be able to go anywhere in the world using high-tech cameras (attach) to their head.

【答案】is;recycled;natural;on;a;how;preventing;it;having;attached

(1)is;考查be動詞。根據(jù)making predictions is a risky business做預(yù)測是一項冒險的事情,句子中缺乏謂語動詞,故為be。

根據(jù)后文的名詞and we will waste fewer natural resources我們浪費的自然資源會越來于少。

(8)it;考查固定搭配,it is possible to do sth.

Most damagingly, anger weakens a person's ability to think clearly and keep control over his behaviour. The angry person loses objectivity in evaluating the emotional significance of the person or situation that arouses his anger.
Not everyone experiences anger in the same way; what angers one person may amuse another. The specific expression of anger also differs from person to person based on biological and cultural forces. In contemporary culture, physical expressions of anger are generally considered too socially harmful to be tolerated. We no longer regard duels(決斗) as an appropriate expression of anger resulting from one person's awareness of insulting behaviour on the part of another.
Anger can be identified in the brain, where the electrical activity changes. Under most conditions EEG(腦電圖) measures of electrical activity show balanced activity between the right and left prefrontal(額葉前部) areas. Behaviourally this corresponds to the general evenhanded disposition(意向) that most of us possess most of the time. But when we are angry the EEG of the right and left prefrontal areas aren't balanced and, as a result of this, we're likely to react. And our behavioural response to anger is different from our response to other emotions, whether positive or negative.
Most positive emotions are associated with approach behaviour: we move closer to people we like. Most negative emotions, in contrast, are associated with avoidance behaviour: we move away from people and things that we dislike or that make us anxious. But anger is an exception to this pattern. The angrier we are, the more likely we are to move towards the object of our anger. This corresponds to what psychologists refer to as offensiveanger: the angry person moves closer in order to influence and control the person or situation causing his anger. This approachandconfront behaviour is accompanied by a leftward prefrontal asymmetry(不對稱) of EEG activity. Interestingly, this asymmetry lessens if the angry person can experience empathy(同感) towards the individual who is bringing forth the angry response. In defensiveanger, in contrast, the EEG asymmetry is directed to the right and the angry person feels helpless in the face of the angerinspiring situation.
(1)The“duels”example in Paragraph 2 proves that the expression of anger ________.
A.usually has a biological basis
B.varies among people
C.is socially and culturally shaped
D.influences one's thinking and evaluation
(2)What changes can be found in an angry brain?
A.Balanced electrical activity can be spotted.
B.Unbalanced patterns are found in prefrontal areas.
C.Electrical activity corresponds to one's behaviour.
D.Electrical activity agrees with one's disposition.
(3)Which of the following is typical of offensive anger?
A.Approaching the source of anger.
B.Trying to control what is disliked.
C.Moving away from what is disliked.
D.Feeling helpless in the face of anger.
(4)What is the key message of the last paragraph?
A.How anger differs from other emotions.
B.How anger relates to other emotions.
C.Behavioural responses to anger.
D.Behavioural patterns of anger.

Outside her shabby cottage, old Mrs. Tailor was hanging out laundry on a wire line, unaware that some children lay hidden in the leaves of a nearby tree watching her every move. They were determined to find out if she really was a witch.
They watched as she took a broomstick to clean the dirt from her stone steps. But, much to their disappointment, she did not mount the broomstick and take a flight. Suddenly, the old lady's work was interrupted by the cackling of her hen—a signal that an egg had been laid in the warm nest on top of the haystack.
The old broomstick was put aside as she hobbled off towards the haystack followed by Sooty, a black cat she had rescued from a fox trap some time back. With only three legs, it was hard for Sooty to keep up with the old lady. The cat provided proof—the children were sure that only a witch could own a black cat with three legs.
There, standing on a wooden box, was Mrs. Tailor, stretching out to gather her precious egg. Taking the egg in one of her hands, she began to climb down when, without warning, the box broke and the old lady fell.
"We have to get and help her," whispered Amy.
"What if it is a trick?" replied Ben.
"Don't be silly, Ben. If she were a witch, she would have turned us into frogs already," reasoned Meg. "Come on, Amy, let's go." The girls climbed down the tree and ran all the way to the haystack.
Approaching carefully, they could see a wound on the old lady's face. She had knocked her head on a stone and her ankle was definitely broken. "Go and get Dad," Amy yelled to her brother. "Tell him about the accident."
The boys did not need another excuse to leave. They ran as fast as they could for help, hoping that Mrs. Tailor would not wake and turn the girls into frogs.
(1)Why were the children hiding in the tree?
A.They wanted to watch Mrs. Tailor do her housework closely.
B.They were playing a hide-and-seek game.
C.They wanted to find out if the rumors about Mrs. Tailor were true.
D.They were pretending to be spies.
(2)Mrs. Tailor stopped sweeping when ________.
A.her front steps were clean
B.she noticed the children in the tree
C.she was ready to take a flight
D.she heard the hen cackling
(3)Ben did not rush in help Mrs. Tailor because ________.
A.he thought that she could be tricking them
B.he knew that they could not have been in the tree
C.he did not see the old lady fall down
D.he was afraid of the three-legged cat
(4)Which of these old sayings best suits the story's lesson for us?
A.Make hay while the sun shines.
B.Never judge a book by its cover.
C.People in glasshouses should not throw stones.
D.A bird in the hands worth two in the bush.
