Often, your mind is challenged by a flood of pop culture messages, .peer pressure, and overscheduled lives that leave little time for good reflection. So, it's easy to forget that learning values and character at homo is as important as any schoolwork or after-school activity.

In the real world of jobs and career, people are judged by two standards: their professional skills and their personal personalities. While grade school, high school, and college can teach skills and proficiency (熟練), it's up to parents to teach children the qualifies that make for success in the real world -- diligence, a cooperative attitude, creativity, optimism, and honesty. Schools -- particularly colleges -- don't focus on these issues. That's the job of the parents, so take the responsibility seriously. Send your kids into the world ready to handle not only the tasks of life but also its barriers, social obstacles, and disappointments with skill and character.

Children need personal reliability and morals as much as any adult. Bullies will always be around, tasks won't always be assigned fairly, the good guys won't always win, and money won't always be in plenty supply. Exposing children to the rough realities of life isn't cruel; giving them that experience and coaching them through it is part and parcel of raising kids to have courage, flexibility, and honor.

You really can't start too soon. After all, if you don't guide and shape your children, who will?

Your smartphone can do a lot of things. It can call people. It connects to the Internet. It enables you to play fun games. But there is a dark side to this smart little equipment of yours----- it might also spread disease.
“People are just likely to get sick from their phones as from handles of the bathroom, ” Jeffrey Cain, the president of the American Academy of Family Physicians , told The Wall Street Journal.
This may be hard to believe, but scientists reached this conclusion after they tested eight cell phones from an office in Chicago. All the tested phones showed high numbers of coliforms (大腸菌), a kind of bacteria found in human waste , with about 2700 to 4200 units of the bacteria on each phone. The bacteria can cause flu, pinkeye and other diseases . That is right --- your phone is covered in our human waste.
Although computers, keys and pens carry germs (細(xì)菌) , our phones get far dirtier. They touch a lot of things, including our hands and the inside of our pocket or purse. We take them almost everywhere: the bus, the subway and who hasn’t played Angry Birds or Fruit Ninja while sitting on the toilet?
“Some things that we think are personal are actually more public than we imagine,” Cain said.  What is even worse is that after the phone returns from its dirty trip, it then spends most of its time cozying up to our faces. You don’t think about how often you touch your phone to your face, do you? Our noses, mouths and ears are all warm and rich in grease (油脂) , an environment that germs really like.
So how do you keep your phone clean? Alcohol is effective when used to kill germs from the back and side of your phone. But it might harm the screen. There is one simple and reliable way you can reduce the germs on your phone’s surface: wash your hands regularly.

Lots of kids go through times when they’d like to change their hair. Often, it’s girls who are most concerned(關(guān)心的), but boys may be interested in how their hair looks, too. Sometimes hair will change as you get older----all by itself----when you go through puberty(青春期).

Maybe it used to be lighter and now it’s darker. Or maybe it’s oilier than it used to be, and now you need to wash it more. It’s also normal, as you’re getting older, to notice your appearance more often. You might suddenly decide you want a hairstyle like other kids at school have. But some styles and looks require chemical treatments and long hours in the chair at the hair salon. Some people dye(染)their hair a different color, get a bunch of braids(辮子),or make their hair straight when it’s curly(卷曲). Are these treatments OK for kids? That’s something you should discuss with your parents. At any age, any chemical or heat applied to(應(yīng)用于) the hair can damage the hair or cause it to break off.

Any styling that pulls hard on the hair can also hurt the scalp(頭皮) or cause hair loss. Styling tools, such as curling irons and straightening irons, get very hot and can cause burns. And chemicals used to color, curl, or straighten hair can be very harmful if they get into your eyes or onto your skin.
