People who are married or in committed relationships are healthier, wealthier, and happier. So why do more than 60 percent of marriages end in divorce? Why has the national divorce rate climbed more than 200 percent in the last thirty years? And why are fewer people getting married today than ever before?
The answers to these questions are plentiful, but the main reason is simple. It's easy to “fall” in love but very few people know how to stay in love. Even though staying in love is our “smartest” choice all the way around! Recent studies on marriage prove it's one of the major ingredients in life-frog success for men and women. Marriage has also been found to boost happiness, reduce the degree of depression, and provide protection from sexually transmitted diseases.
So let's wake up, make up, and turn this trend around! One of the most amazing pieces of evidence that shows people are not in touch with what's really going on in their partnerships is the fact that the majority of people who put in for divorce say they didn't think there was a relationship-threatening problem just six months prior to breaking up. Another shocker is that most couples wait six years or more to seek professional help when their relationship is in danger. By the time they do wake up and smell the coffee, it's often too late.
Truly there is no reason to resign yourself to a bad relationship? Whether you're dating or married. Rather than changing partners and ending up this same predicament(困境) again, you can learn to have a fabulous (難以置信的) relationship with the partner you already have! I strongly encourage you to make the relationship you have work, because there is a higher rate of divorce in second marriages.

Frankly,I appreciate myself very much.Yes,I admit I’m in many aspects not as good as other people, but I don’t think I’m always not good. When I find what I’ve done or written is okay,I’ll remain pleased with myself for quite a few days, and if I receive praise for it,I’ll even become so excited as to add a few words to reward myself.
True,I’m not modest at all.People may call me conceited(自負(fù)的).But I think otherwise.
I appreciate other people.I appreciate anything good.Isn’t it unfair to forget appreciating myself while appreciating others?
We Chinese generally tend to be modest, and we take pride in being so.For example,a Chinese man will call his own wife zhuojing, meaning “my humble wife”,and his own writings zhuozuo, meaning “my poor writings”.But if you call his wife a “rustic(鄉(xiāng)村的)woman”or his writings “trash”,he would,I’m sure, declare he would make a clean break with you angrily. As a matter of fact, there is probably no difference at all between what is said by him and you.
I don’t think it’s wrong of you to freely praise yourself if you’re really worthy of praise. As we know, there is an old Chinese saying disparaging(蔑視) a melon seller, named Lao Wang, who keeps praising his own goods.Well, why can’t he praise his melons if they are really sweet and juicy?
Lao Wang sells melons for a living. How could he carry on business if he,by imitating the affectations(裝模作樣)of us intellectuals, were to show false modesty about his melons? He would sure enough die of starvation.
Self?appreciation is therefore a key to professional dedication and enjoyment of work.Needless to say,the same is true of those who make a living with their pen.One will lose confidence in writing when he stops admiring his own essays.
1.We know from the first three paragraphs that the author________.
A.is modest in some way
B.is pleased to be a good writer
C.is too conceited
D.thinks it unfair to appreciate others
2.What do we know about the author’s attitude towards Chinese modesty according to Paragraph 4?
A.Supportive. B.Negative.
C.Neutral. D.Careless.
3.The author mentions the example of Lao Wang to prove that ________.
A.Lao Wang is very proud of himself
B.melon sellers should praise their goods
C.reasonable self?appreciation is good
D.writers should learn from Lao Wang
4.The purpose of the passage is to encourage readers to be________.
A.modest B.considerate
C.respectful D.confident

Tired of all the pushing in supermarkets? Fed up with waiting in endless lines to pay for what you have bought? Angry at wasting time in traffic jams only to find no parking spaces when you eventually arrive at the store? If this is you, then online shopping is the answer to your dreams of trouble-free shopping.
Online shopping brings its own challenges. Here are a few things to bear in mind when browsing (瀏覽) various websites. The claim (聲稱) made by online sites is that shopping online is a safe and secure way to make purchases. The evidence challenges this. In any case, you only have to be the victim(受害者) of fraud (欺騙) once to experience all the problems that come with this form of stealing. Use only sites that have a trusted history and an excellent reputation(名聲).
Another problem is that the appearance of items in reality is often quite different from what you see on your computer screen. This might not be a problem if you are buying washing up powder but could be a major disappointment when that beautiful blue dress you ordered turns up in green. Also, product descriptions are sometimes simply untrue! Perhaps the wisest plan is to purchase items whose design and color are not essential to customer satisfaction.
Some even argue that online shopping indirectly contributes to global warming. Yes, your car can stay parked but how are online goods delivered? Often by some large van pouring out carbon monoxide and adding to our already desperate traffic problems. You are also by now becoming increasingly irritated(使煩惱) by the fact that the delivery is late !
Without question, online shopping is here to stay and it has its benefits. However, perhaps it is not as wonderful as some of its supporters claim it to be.
【小題1】How can online shoppers avoid fraud?
A.By choosing big websites. |
B.By collecting shopping evidence. |
C.By seeking advice from the police. |
D.By using only trusted websites. |

B.Product appearances are always not good. |
C.It is usually wise to buy colorful products. |
D.It is normal for a blue dress to change into green. |
A.online shopping is a safe way to make purchases |
B.customers are never satisfied with products |
C.online shopping has nothing to do with global warming |
D.delivery delay often makes online shoppers unhappy |
A.It is very popular. |
B.It is a wise choice. |
C.It is a double-edged sword(雙刃劍). |
D.It is a waste of time. |
